July 2019 Birchbox 'Pop of Color' Curated Box #3 Review

front of info card back of info card with product info

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included and some tips on how to use them.

Finally, included is a card with a 20% discount code to use on any Birchbox Kit or Limited Edition Kit in the shop.

Let's dive into our items!

Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Eyebrow Gel, 0.03 oz - Estimated Value $7.20 (Buy 0.1 oz for $24.00)

This is my go-to brow product, so I am always happy for more samples. I don't sculpt my brows, but they are sparse, so a gel like this is perfect for giving them a little tint while still leaving them very natural. I am on a streak of like 8 months of not needing to buy this from all my samples, but that is fine with me!

Davines MINU Illuminating Shampoo, 75 ml - Estimated Value $8.40 (Buy 250 ml for $28.00)

Davines MINU Illuminating Conditioner, 12 ml - Estimated Value $1.54 (Buy 250 ml for $32.00)

I always have enjoyed the sleek packaging from this brand. Their conditioners are in these giant square-shaped packages you can shove your whole hand into which for some reason I enjoy? I use a lot of conditioner. This formula smells like herbs and maybe the sea, and I like it! Designed to be safe for color-treated hair, I did find that I like a little more cleaning power in my shampoo, but the conditioner felt so luxe and moisturizing.

Davines MINU Hair Serum, 6 ml – Estimated Value $1.04 (Buy a full-size 150 ml for $26.00)

Our third Davines product is a serum that is perfectly coordinated formula-wise to be used with the shampoo and conditioner. The directions say to apply to damp hair but my hair is super thick and I don't like being told what to do, so I applied it to my dry hair by rubbing a few drops between my palms then finger-combing my hair about 5 inches down from my scalp. It was great for taming flyaways without weighing my hair down and has that amazing scent!

Grande Cosmetics Grande Mascara, 0.04 oz - Estimated Value $5.00 (Buy 0.2 oz for $25.00)

I love me some GrandeLips but I have tried their mascara a few times now and find that it makes my lashes stick together and clump. I will just stick to their lip products!

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment, 0.16 oz - Estimated Value $4.89 (buy a full-size 1.7 oz for $52.00)

I was hoping I might get a sample of this product during the summer! I tried it back in December in-store and found that the beige tint that appears after rubbing it in was way too warm for my winter skin. I suffer from rosy cheeks, so I love this line because it does help with redness. On my face, it is still a little warm, but I think it is doable, especially if I get outside a little more before fall. It also has SPF 30 which is a must-have for me!

butter LONDON Glazen Eye Gloss - (Buy a full-size 1 oz for $24.00)

Our last item is a thick gel/cream metallic eye glaze in a pretty rose gold. It dries down to a very stay-put type of powder and is very buildable. I don't really love sparkles, but just the tiniest bit of this on my lid gave my face a glow I liked without it being super metallic. Be sure to rub it in fast, because it dries very quickly and then it becomes really un-blendable.

Top: Cicapair Correcting Cream, Bottom: butter LONDON Eye Glaze

Verdict: This box has an approximate value of $28.07, without the butter LONDON eye glaze that I couldn't figure out an estimate for since I didn't know the size of the sample. This is less than I am used to from a Birchbox in terms of value, but I really, really liked the products in this box and I can see all of them (minus that mascara) being used. My faves would be the Gimme Brow (of course!), the Cicapair cream, the eye glaze, and the Davines products. I do feel like there was something missing, maybe in terms of a full-size item or an extra-large sample.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Could the butter London product have been full sized? It looks like it might be, comparing it to images from a google search.

I didn’t think so. The packaging was different and I thought the amount inside looked significantly smaller than than 1 oz… though my math is terrible!

I don’t get it, the theme..Is it Pop of color or Love you (like it says on the card they provide)? Also, this is off topic…I never knew Amore pacific corporation owns Laneige? It shows on one of my sample packets…

Luna

Amorepacific actually owns a lot of brands like Sulwhasoo, Laneige, Mamonde, IOPE, Etude House, Innisfree, Primera, Goutal, Aritaum, and many others, but these are just some of the more well-known brands. 🙂

Hey Char! Love, You is the card signoff. The theme is alluded to at the top of the card. I also try and grab the box names/themes off of our spoiler posts. Hope that helps!

I was thinking the same thing! There’s one color product and I wouldn’t call it a pop of color lol.

Jessica

I am completely perplexed as to why this box is called Pop of Color.

Megan K.

I guess the theme was “color protectors” which is mentioned at the top of the card. I grabbed the Pop of color box title from our spoiler post. Hope this helps!

Maybe because out of all the items there is 1 pop of color?

Because ‘Random Stuff We Threw Together with No Thought’ was too long?
