The Zakka Kit June 2019 Review
The interior paper was printed with this vintage-inspired scene.
The front of the info card has the theme (which is “Vintage Japan”) and a short explanation.
The reverse side has a list of the items with descriptions and a total listed value of all the included items. ($28.00)
1 of 3 2 of 3 3 of 3 Vintage Fabric Pouch This pouch is rather small (4 inches long, 2.5 inches tall) and made of a traditionally plant dyed fabric. Handmade in Kyoto, it is a great little pouch for your purse to keep smaller items close by and safe. The little bell on the zipper is a cute touch!
1 of 3 2 of 3 3 of 3 Vintage Matchbox Paperclips These little paper paperclips certainly do have a retro vibe! They come in a genuine matchbox, complete with a striker.
1 of 3 2 of 3 3 of 3 Vintage Style Notebook This notebook feels a little more American that I would have expected, due to the font that reminds me of our paper money here in the States. It is a little bland, but it is the perfect size for your purse to keep your thoughts close at hand.
1 of 6 2 of 6 3 of 6 4 of 6 5 of 6 6 of 6 Black Ink Brush Pen I love Japanese pens and I would honestly be happy to get a monthly box full of them. Do any of you have a fave pen subscription?? This faux-woodgrain pen has a marker/brush like tip and is filled with super bold, dark, black ink.
1 of 3 2 of 3 3 of 3 Vintage Toy Washi Tape This uber retro tape is covered in little dolls, chickens, and flowers. I absolutely love the weird peach, red, and green color combo! Vintage Japan Postcard Our last item is described as a postcard, though it is super thin and has a totally blank back. I would be more comfortable referring to it as a little art print. It features a montage of vintage Japan life. Verdict: Zakka Kit was a little underwhelming for me personally this month. I think an extra pen or a bigger pouch would have made it much better. I have a hard time getting excited about paperclips and basic notebooks. I also think the value was a little low, as the $28 listed value was awfully close to the $26 cost of this box when you add in shipping. I hope next month brings more exciting pieces. To Wrap Up: Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, subscribe by July 21st to receive the August box. COUPON: Use code 10MAIL to save 10% off your first box! Value Breakdown: At $26.49 ($19.99 + $6.50 shipping to Pittsburgh) each item of the 6 items has a value of about $4.42. Check out all of our Zakka Kit reviews, plus other stationery subscriptions! The monetary value wasn’t very great and I do agree one big WOW! item was needed, but I do think this month’s curation wasn’t bad at all
So funny, I loved the notebook and the paperclips, but thought everything else was kind of ugly. The tape especially is so not my jam, and I love washi tape! Definitely didn’t feel the value on this box.
I also felt like this one was underwhelming, though I liked the theme. I felt like it needed another item or two.
