Sensory TheraPlay Box June 2019 Review

Each box includes a motivational quote card along with a booklet that details the items inside the box. They include retail values and a great description of how you can use each item as a sensory tool.

Massage Ball - Listed Value $4.99

This massage ball features firm spikes that feel really great if you're rolling the ball around in your hands. It also feels nice as a back or leg massage. They recommend using it to help "wake up" fingers before handwriting or keyboarding or as a way to engage the arms and legs of under responders.

Kid O Free Play Magnatab - Retail Value $24.99 (found here for $19.52)

This Magnatab is pretty cool! It is kind of like a magnetic ball version of a Magna-Doodle in which you draw by drawing up the mini magnetic balls using the included magnetic pen. To clear the board you simply slide your hands over the balls with a little force and they slide back down into the holes. It provides multisensory stimulation through the clicking sounds it makes, the tactile sensation of the metallic balls, and the visual images you create.

My daughter took to this right away and I love that it is essentially just a two-piece set making it easy to travel with. My daughter has been bringing it along for car rides and it does a great job at keeping her entertained!

Mindware Sensory Genius Atomic Twist - Retail Value $5.95

This fidget toy is pretty basic and can be played with using just one hand. The rings just kind of rotate around one another in a continuous manner.  It is a great toy to keep your hands busy and its small size means you can carry it in your pocket or use it discreetly.

NeeDoh Cool Cat - Listed Value $4.99 (Buy a 3 pack here for $15.42)

This squishy cat is super bright! It has a soft rubbery outer layer and is filled with a non-toxic substance that looks like shaving cream that is fun to squish and play with. It is free of BPA, phthalates, and latex and is hypoallergenic. This makes a great calming toy in addition to a fun tactile experience.

Octo Ink Slime Sucker - Retail Value $4.25, Listed Value $4.99

This inky octopus is equal parts gross and cool! His body is fairly firm making it a great hand strengthening toy and the ink is really cold and super jiggly like jello. His mouth features a large hole so that he can suck up the ink blob and then spit it back out as you squeeze it. My son was really into this one and I loved how much fine motor practice it gave him! I had a lot of fun playing with it, too.

Here you can see how it works. They also made a special note in the booklet to keep children under close supervision while using this to make sure they don't put it in their mouths.

SloFlo Motion Magic - Retail Value $5.99, Listed Value $7.00

This SloFlo compound is really fun and unique. It is very light and airy but can be formed into a ball or compact piece although it immediately starts to separate making it look like it is alive almost in the way that it moves. It is fun to play with and fun to watch, stimulating multiple senses as you play.

Here you can get a sense for how it moves. I like that it comes in this hourglass-shaped container, but I do wish it had a stronger closure that was airtight.

Verdict: This month was another well rounded Sensory TheraPlay Box that provided tools to address multiple senses. The toys felt unique and all of them really appealed to my kids. Although these are meant to help those with sensory processing issues or trouble regulating emotions, I think the toys they included are pretty universal and almost anyone will enjoy playing with them. The MagnaTab is probably the favorite toy this month since I can see it lasting us for years and it has already provided a lot of entertainment for us since we received the box! As for the value this month, with a combination of retail and listed values, I total $51.16 which is a few dollars higher than the $47.86 box ($39.95 plus $7.91 shipping). While it isn't much higher than the box cost, I always find a lot of value in the fun and unique curation!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the July box.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $47.86 ($39.95 + $7.91 shipping) and we received 6 items which means that each of the items in this box has an average cost of $7.98.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

After seeing the magnatab as the spoiler, I decided to order this box for my daughter. I had been watching the box for quite some time, but couldn’t justify the cost.

She liked everything in the box, except for the keyring fidget. Unfortunately, the items didn’t justify the cost. The box is about $48 including shipping and the items aren’t worth much more. The value just isn’t there.
