Lip Monthly May 2019 Review

This month's theme is "Girl Power" and the products are designed to help us shine bright as we head into summer!

Each month, Lip Monthly sends their products in a little soft fabric makeup bag which is just a bit bigger than an iPhone plus (although not quite big enough to fit one inside). This blue girl with her hair in a high ponytail has me thinking of Aladdin and the Genie for some reason! The design is the same on both sides.

City Color Hydrating Lip Balm in Grape - Retail Value $3.99

The first product I received reminded me of something I would buy a kid who wanted their own "lipstick". In fact, I had to pass it along to my daughter because I really wasn't into the fake grape flavor. It goes on clear with just a hint of gloss and is smooth and hydrating, but I would have preferred a different flavor.

Laritzy Velvet Liquid Lipstick in Loyal - Retail Value $20

The next product is this velvet liquid lipstick. Subscribers could have received one of four different shades and while this is probably the one I like best from the selections, I don't think I would consider this a great summer color. At least not for my skin tone! The formula was pretty impressive as it went on smoothly and dried down like a stain and then stayed on throughout eating and drinking.

While the color was nice, I'm not really a fan of the metallic look so this one wasn't quite for me.

IBY Beauty Feathermatte Liquid Lipstick in Flirt - Retail Value $12

I always dislike seeing a nude in my bag because I just cannot pull them off, but this one was actually a nice surprise and is described as more of a "pink brown" so it ended up being more flattering than I thought. This formula was lightweight and went on smoothly, but it did leave a bit of a tacky feeling and looked a bit chalky when it dried.

Now that I have a little bit of color to my face, I think this works for a natural summer look. I like it more than I thought!

Lord & Berry Ultimate Lip Liner in Toasty - Retail Value $19

I'm usually pretty pleased with Lord & Berry products, but this color looks so orange I was afraid of how it would look on me. Fortunately, it had a bit more red in it and looks better than expected!

Here I have it on as just a liner with the City Color lip balm over it. Not a bad look! I could easily use this pencil to fill in my entire lips and be happy with the color, but here I was happy with how it deepened the color of my lips just enough! Obviously, I could blend it a bit more, but wanted you to be able to see the color!

Here they are swatched. In order from top to bottom, they are City Color, Laritzy, IBY, and Lord & Berry.

Verdict: I am always wary when I see the colors that Lip Monthly sends me each month because at first glance they all look like colors I would completely pass up when shopping, but the fun of this subscription is that the colors always end up working out better than I expected. I like that it brings me out of my comfort zone a little bit. While two items were misses for me (the Laritzy & City Color), I still received two products that I ended up liking a lot, so I'd still consider it a win. Especially considering the items I will use have a retail value of $31 which is more than double the $12.95 cost of this subscription. The total retail value is $54.99 which is a great value, overall!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

had Lip Monthly sub for 1 year. Why just full size products? I want samples of other stuff, and travel size, too, that I can pack easily or take out at night in a purse. I think they should just do “all” lip products.

I haven’t received the June shipping yet. Second bag for me, and second month it will be sent late. Not a good impression!

Are they always so late to ship?

I love this subscription! I’m addicted to lippies so this is perfect for me! I loved the May 2019 bag. The colors were beautiful! The IBY Beauty Feather Matte lipstick is stunning color and dried down nice. It wasn’t tacky or overly drying. I’ve not been disappointed yet with my bags.

This place is a joke, these reviews are probably fake just to get people like me to believe. I did one of those 5 ofg first lip monthly yadda yadda, well I signed up… tried to create a profile but couldn’t, seen I had to go to a new sight(the first one let me sign up but not sign in???) I found that odd but whatever, so u go to the new website couldn’t log in, couldn’t create anything at all…. so I search for customer service and figured they’d help me log in, but no phone number only email and live chat(never worked, they just sent a email instead of live? ) do I email n let them know I want my money back. They email bk with a link of the terms n service that said absolutely NO REFUNDS !! How is that when I don’t have a account, they sent me a link with a password n there I am, they created my account…. wtf … so I ask them to have a supervisor email me because I’ve been as patient as possible. They send me another email saying no n that they will cancel my account for me but will absolutely not refund me my $7.50… I then ask for the number to the manager of customer service, again they said k, I gave them my cell number and now demanded they have one call me, now they said there is no phones at all (I find that very difficult to believe), so then I tell them to give me the number to corporate or CEO of the company, this time thru sent me a few things, the refund policy again (I never had one until they did it for me without my permission), also the confirmation number and also letting me know when my unwanted lip monthly should arrive…. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT TO DO BUSINESS WITH THESE HORRIBLE COMPANY

I am **so** happy with my LaRitzy lipstick. I got the metallic/pearlized red, and it is gorgeous, but I like metallic/pearl/shimmery shades. It was definitely worth the cost of the bag. I’m probably going to swap two of the other products and haven’t decided about the “grape” item yet. I’m glad that I saw your review of it before I opened mine.

May was my first Lip Monthly bag thanks to Brandi and her reviews 😉 I liked about half of my bag, my Lord & Berry lip liner was in a dark plum. Gorgeous, but will likely just save it for fall/winter. I will try playing with the nude lip, but my oldest daughter looks great in nudes, she might snatch it up first.

Even with only really loving half the items, it still felt worth the cost. I was hoping to see spoilers for June, but didn’t cancel and am crossing my fingers I like that bag as well. 😀

I don’t think that there are ever any spoilers for this bag.

I’m glad your first bag worked out for you for the most part – I feel like 50/50 is usually how it goes for me too! 🙂 That dark plum liner sounds perfect for fall!

They all look great on you Brandi! I love reading your reviews, and it seems like you can pull of any color lip product. 🙂 Lucky! I also really like the bag this month!

Aww, thanks so much for reading, Luna! 🙂

If you like the color of the metallic one just tap a bit of HD powder over it! I do it all the time to help “set” my lip color. It also covers the metallic look, leaving you with the color and no “shine”. I love using it for those sticky feeling lippies too!

Ooh thank you for the tip! I will definitely have to try that! 🙂
