Soap Shack The Soap Club April 2019 Review

Soap Shack The Soap Club April 2019 - Heavenly White Gardenia Handmade Soap Bar 1

Soap Shack The Soap Club April 2019 - Heavenly White Gardenia Handmade Soap Bar 2

Heavenly White Gardenia Handmade Soap Bar, 3.5 oz – Retail Value $6.95

This soap is very feminine to my nose, and I have no complaints! The white gardenia scent of heavenly is a very soft floral note, and it is combined with ylang and lily for an overall scent that is like a gentle bouquet of beautiful flowers. As always, this soap does a great job of really cleaning my skin without leaving it too stripped thanks to the olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter ingredients. This is the first repeat scent I have received since subscribing in June of 2018- this came in my September 2018 box.

Soap Shack The Soap Club April 2019 - Uplifting Spearmint and Patchouli Handmade Soap Bar 1

Soap Shack The Soap Club April 2019 - Uplifting Spearmint and Patchouli Handmade Soap Bar 2

Uplifting Spearmint and Patchouli Handmade Soap Bar, 3.5 oz – Estimated Value $6.95

One of the perks of subscribing is that you occasionally get subscriber-exclusive scents like this one! I love mint anything, and the combination of mint and patchouli is energizing and refreshing, just like the name would suggest. In addition to the standard Soap Shack formula of coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter, this also has rice bran oil and spearmint leaf.

The Verdict: I really enjoyed the scents sent this month, but I am conflicted now that this subscription no longer comes with free shipping. With shipping, this box costs $16.90, which is higher than the $13.90 combined total retail value of the two bars of soap. I think the soap is of high quality and it is fun to get subscriber exclusive scents, but I don’t know if this subscription has the needed value to make it a good deal.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? You will most likely get the June box. You must order before the 15th of the month to be sure to get that month’s shipment.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $12.95 + $3.95 shipping, which means that each of the 2 items in the box has an average cost of $8.45.

  1. My take on the price is: excellent price for artisan soaps (and look at those ingredients!), and that shipping is about half what I would pay to buy similar soaps elsewhere. The key is not to compare this to other subscription box deals (i.e. getting $200 worth of products for $25), but just to compare it to what you would spend for the same items.

In response to Kristina: don’t throw the soap away! Just rotate a couple.

As for the soaps themselves, the first thing I noticed is the absence of palm oil. It can be difficult to find soaps that aren’t made with palm oil. That is the #1 selling point for me. I do wish the ingredients were organic. The seeded packaging is a plus. I would sign up right now if these bars were organic. I’m going to mull this one over.

  2. The uplifting one sounds amazing! Great review.

  3. I know as subscription box junkies we are always looking for a good deal. But with small companies they are putting out a lot of expenses we don’t consider. The custom boxes cost a them a lot, packaging and I am betting they are paying over $3.95 to ship it. Have you shipped a small package at the post office recently? These aren’t big conglomerates getting huge discounts for buying in bulk, buying massed produced products. These are real people, creating products from scratch, with their own two hands. They deserve to make a living, they can’t give away their products or provide deals like the huge companies.

    • I get this and respect it but I am not sure what incentive I have to a subscription when for the same price I can pick out my own scents. Convenience I guess… but I like the fun of shopping scents.

  4. Thanks for a great review Jessica. The problem with a high quality bar soap is they last a long time so two bars a month for a single person is too much. I love fancy soaps and end up throwing away the bar when it’s down to the 1/3 of its size because I want a new scent haha.

    • Agreed. If they had a bimonthly or even quarterly, I would jump on it.
