Mama Needs Subscription Box: “Mama Needs A Minute” Review
We received several inserts in our box. The first gives instructions for how to access the Spotify playlist that goes along with this month’s theme which I think is a nice touch. The second card gives a brief description of the items in our box including some web links for their sites.
One unique thing about this subscription is that it includes a little card with self-care tips, some of which involve using the items in your box. These are great reminders of little things you can do to take care of yourself and I love how focused the curator of this box is on helping mamas to do this!
Mama Needs a Minute Journal
This 40-page journal is custom made by Brooke Johnston just for this month’s box and features blank pages on the inside. I like that it is custom made, but I almost wish it had lined pages since I like to make a lost of lists. I do like that it is a smaller size so I can throw it in my purse and will probably use it for keeping my kiddos occupied while we are on the go since they love to draw!
Ginger Peach Whipped Sugar Scrub, 4.5 oz. – Retail Value $8.00
I love ginger peach so this was an item I was excited about and it did not disappoint! Since it is a sugar scrub, the exfoliation was light and it left my skin so smooth and hydrated leaving behind a nice fresh, light scent. This scrub is vegan with no parabens or phthalates and handmade by a small shop in Georgia. While this jar doesn’t seem huge at 4.5 ounces, the light whipped texture means that you only need a little bit to cover a large area, which is good for me because I plan on using this daily!
Grab the Gold Chocolate Peanut Butter Snack Bar – Retail Value $2.49
I have been trying to add more protein into my diet recently so I was excited to try this. It’s not as much protein as I would like, but it is definitely better than some bars out there and this one tastes very much like a no-bake cookie, although slightly less chocolatey. It was pretty good and they offer free samples on their site (just pay $0.99 for shipping) so you can try one for yourself! These are gluten-free, plant-based bars that are designed to taste good and keep you feeling full which it did thanks to the generous size of the bar. They also donate to Second Harvest Food Bank for every bar purchased, which is one more reason to enjoy these!
Cheeky Mama Organics “Mama Needs a Minute” Oil Blend Roller (10 ml) – Estimated Value $15?
It looks like this shop is currently taking a break, but I am estimating the value based on similar roller bottle blends on Etsy. This one is custom made for this box, which is very cute and it contains a blend of Ylang Ylang, Cedarwood, Lavender, Bergamot, and Frankincense to provide some liquid patience when you need it most. This is a cute idea and I like the scent which is definitely heavy on the Ylang Ylang.
Una Biologicals Mama Maintenance Tea (1.5 oz)
This tin of loose tea is a nice size! I could not find it listed on their site anywhere, but this organic blend is supposed to be great for new and expecting mamas to help tone their uterus. After three babies, I’m sure this could be useful for me, although for expecting mamas, I recommend using caution since it includes Raspberry Leaf which is often not recommended until the third trimester. Other organic herbs include peppermint, chamomile, lemon balm, ginger, and even dandelion to name a few. These are also meant to help boost your energy and can even ease nausea. The flavor was pretty mild, I mostly picked up a basic herbal flavor with a very slight hint of peppermint.
Spruce and Bee Tub Tea – Retail Value $5.00
This smells so so good! It is just a mix of lavender and peppermint essential oils which I’ve smelled before, but I think that the coconut in it must really bring out those scents for some reason because they smell so much better than usual. In addition to the coconut and oils, it also has Epsom salt, Himalayan salt, and dried lavender. I love that it comes in its own little sachet so that I can throw this in the bath and not have to worry about cleaning it up after. I’m looking forward to the day I can give myself a minute to take a relaxing bath with this! I love that this is handmade and even more so, I love the description of the product on their site, which is incredibly accurate:
Tub Tea is a thing. We love it. Just drop the bag in the tub, let the salts dissolve and the coconut + lavender steep and in minutes feel yourself melt into a magical state of relaxation. That is until your 4 year old busts in to use the potty. Also a thing.
Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Squares – Buy a 6.38 oz bag for $4.79
To round it all out we received one of my favorite kinds of Ghirardelli squares – and they gave us two of them! The dark chocolate combined with the sweet, salty, melty caramel is the perfect treat to give me a brief indulgent moment!
Verdict: This month was another nice Mama Needs Box with a theme that a lot of mamas can probably relate to! While bath and body items are pretty common in mama boxes, I really loved the ginger peach scrub and the tub tea because they both smelled amazing to me. I am also glad that I got to try the Grab the Gold bar because it was pretty good for a healthier option! The journal and the tea were kind of lackluster for me, but I still appreciate their inclusion in this box for the thought behind them.
This month’s value was very hard to estimate since there were a few custom-made items as well as some that were unavailable online. At $45.99 ($39.99 + $6 shipping) for this box, I received at least $30 worth of products and I still think there is some value in the thoughtful curation that included custom-made items from small shops as well as the self-care tips and Spotify playlist that they provide.
