Bonjour Jolie April 2019 "Happy Earth Day" Review

The theme for Bonjour Jolie this month is "Happy Earth Day" and they sent this card which lists all of our items and some of their values. Our card this month is especially cool because it says it is made in Nepal from recycled paper and has embedded seeds! The ink is soy based so we can just soak the paper overnight and plant it in some soil to grow our own wildflowers. How unique and great is that?

Let's start with the goods. All of your menstrual products will come in a discreet bag that usually fits within our theme, and I think a paper bag with this teal color is a nice match for Earth Day.

When you sign up, you can choose up to 20 different menstrual products in any combination of tampons, pads, and liners. They offer a great selection of items from brands like Always, Kotex, and OB. You can check their selection out before you commit though, in case you are someone who has a preferred brand.

Seventh Generation Tampons,Regular (10)- Buy 18 for $6.79

Seventh Generation Ultrathin Overnight (9) - Buy 28 for $7.99

Kotex Long Liners (3) - Buy 16 for $0.99

You can change your selections at any time by editing your profile, but keep in mind there might be a delay if you need to switch up your needs each month. The ability to switch it up is what I really like about this box and the fact that you can try new things without committing to an entire box of products. This month I received 10 tampons, 9 pads, and 3 liners. It looks like I received a few extra pads this month!

GoodWipes Cleansing Cloths in Rosewater (2) - Buy a box of 16 for $2.19

Cleansing cloths like these seem to be in every box which is nice because I have a great little stash for when I might need them to freshen up. These are flushable and have an especially ridiculous phrase on them which I can appreciate!

Advil to Go Packs (2) –  Buy 50 packets for $9.98

These little packets each have two pills, just enough to help with cramps or headaches while on the go.

Reusable Shopping Bag - Listed Value $8

I am all about the reusable shopping bags, so this bag made from recycled cotton was a nice surprise! I think the design is fun and perfect for holding your groceries in. It is a simple bag, but it seems well constructed and I think it will hold a good amount of weight.

This bag is actually a decent size and the bottom folds open making it wider and able to fit more than you might expect!

Our next item came wrapped in this fun bag that looks like rainbow coral reef to me.

Hikari Cosmetics Eyeshadow Quad in Tonya - Retail Value $17

This eyeshadow quad is a nice size for traveling and I like the colors a lot and think they would be fairly flattering universally. The shadows have great pigment and I didn't experience any fallout, but it wasn't as long lasting as I would have hoped for. Hopefully, a primer might help with that!

Here they are swatched from left to right starting at the top of the palette. You can see we have two matte colors and two nice shimmery shades.

The rest of our goodies all came packaged together in this blue mesh bag.

Go Organically Fruit Snacks in Mixed Berry - Listed Value $0.50, Buy 42 packs for $14.99 here

These fruit snacks are made with real fruit, no preservatives and are non-GMO. They were good, but a little too firm in texture for me, but my daughter was happy to finish them!

SunRype Fruit to Go in Apple Wildberry - Listed Value $0.50, Buy 55 for $19.99 here

This fruit bar was tasty and reminded me of a thicker version of those grocery store fruit roll-ups I used to get as a kid. You could taste the real fruit in it!

Yum Earth Organic Lollipop (2) - Listed Value $0.50, Buy 14 pops for $2.99

These lollipops are yummy and something I have received in a box before. They are organic, vegan, non-GMO, and gluten-free. These flavors are razzmatazz berry and googly grape.

Annie's Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites - Listed Value $1, Buy a 6.5 oz box for $3.19

These organic chocolate chip cookies are good with nice big pieces of chocolate in a tiny cookie! A great sweet treat for on the go.

Nature's Bakery Fig Bars in Raspberry - Listed Value $1, Buy a box of 6 twin packs for $6.00

These fig bars are already a family favorite here. They are a good size made with real fruit in the center surrounded by a hearty whole wheat crust. These are also non-GMO and Vegan.

Nature Valley Fruit & Nut Granola Bar in Trailmix - Listed Value $0.50, Buy a box of 6 for $2.99 here

These are another popular item in our house. I love the big chunks of fruit and nut in this one!

NibMor Organic Daily Dose of Dark in Original and Mint - Listed Value $1.50, Buy a 60 count box for $19.99 here (Mint is $34.98)

This item is new to me and the concept is that they are giving you chocolate to snack on that is better for you than what you might find in the checkout aisle at the grocery store.  These dark chocolate squares are organic, vegan, non-GMO, and gluten-free. They are called "daily dose" because they believe it's a healthy choice which I can appreciate! I opted to try the mint flavor which had pieces of cacao nib at the bottom and I enjoyed it. The mint flavor was fresh and not too overpowering and the chocolate itself was not overly sweet and I liked the little crunch of the cacao nibs.

Good Earth Assorted Organic Teas (3 bags) - Listed Value $1, Buy a box of 18 teabags for $4.99 (I was only able to locate the Sweet & Spicy flavor on their site for some reason)

I love that they send a few tea bags every month and that there is always some variation in the flavors they send. Good Earth seems like a good brand for an Earth Day box! I was in the mood for the Citrus Kiss and while the flavor was really good, it was sweetened with stevia and although it is a natural sweetener, my palate just does not like it. I wish they had an unsweetened version of this flavor!

Verdict: This is the second month in a row that my Bonjour Jolie box has been heavy on the snacks. I don't mind so much, because they did round it out with some nice items such as the eyeshadow and reusable shopping bag. I wish that I had been subscribed to this in college! I would have loved all of the snacks each month! While the curation was a bit lacking for me in comparison to previous boxes I still think this was a nice box with some great touches such as the custom made shopping bag and that fantastic seed paper. As for value, a really rough estimate is $37.67 and this box costs $24.48/month ($16.50 + $0.99 tax + $6.99 shipping) so I think the value is definitely there, but you definitely have to enjoy snacks to appreciate this one!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? From Bonjour Jolie:

Value Breakdown: This box costs $16.50 + $7.98 tax and shipping, which means that each of the 15 types of items in the box has an average cost of $1.63.

While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Do not subscribe to Bonjour Jolie. I have now been subscribed long enough to have paid for four boxes from them and I haven’t seen a single one. The first one I contacted Bonjour Jolie and received a tracking number for, and it got stuck in a warehouse somewhere in Florida. The rest I have heard and seen nothing about. The Bonjour Jolie customer service team is practically unreachable. After giving me a tracking number for my first box they have refused to contact me. In refusing to contact me they also refuse to unsubscribe me from their service.
They are stealing my money. Absolute scam. I need a refund and I need to unsubscribe. I ordered my first box on March 7th and still have not seen it 2 months later. I began emailing them asking for a replacement on April 21st and have received no reply for a month. I asked to be unsubscribed on May 5th and have received no reply for 10 days. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE TO BONJOUR JOLIE.

I feel like subbing just to get that mesh bag of snackies! I also like the way one can switch up the amount of product.
Yeah I didn’t realize flushing tampons was a no no until a year ago. I just thought pads were a no no. People do not realize the toilet is just for number 1, number 2 and tp. Not paper towels, scrap paper etc.

Those wipes are only flushable in the sense that you can flush them down the toilet and they will clog up your plumbing later on. All those personal wipes claim to be flushable but none of them actually are.

And even though the companies (all of them) say flushable, you should never flush anything down the toilet other than toilet paper. Tampons and flushable wipes clog up the system really bad.

I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to flush tampons until like 5 yrs ago…mind blown on that one!
