Sephora Favorites: Festival Faves Kit Review

On the back of the kit was a list of the products and their sizes.

Sephora Festival Faves April 2019 - Amika Un Done Volume And Matte Texture Spray Front

Amika Un.Done Volume and Matte Texture Spray, 1 oz -  Retail Value $10

I have to be particular about when and where I use texture sprays for my curls, but sometimes it’s the perfect thing to finish a Friday night look. A few blasts of this targeted at the roots really lifts my curls when I am wearing it down, and I also like the volume it adds when I am trying to pull off a polished bun. I definitely recommend keeping this away from the ends of your hair unless it's fine, otherwise, you're going to need some extra elbow grease the next time you comb your locks.

Sephora Festival Faves April 2019 - Bumble And Bumble Pret - Powder Très Invisible Dry Shampoo Front

Bumble and bumble Pret-à-powder Très Invisible Dry Shampoo, 0.85 oz – Retail Value $14

I don’t normally use dry shampoo, but now that I am trying to exercise more, I don’t always have the time to wash my hair after. This works perfectly at helping my scalp to feel clean after a workout, and I like the volume it adds to my roots. I didn’t need to use a ton, but I didn’t experience any white residue on my dark hair.

Sephora Festival Faves April 2019 - IGK First Class Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo Front

IGK First Class Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo, 2 oz – Retail Value $14

This dry shampoo is more heavy duty than the Bumble and Bumble thanks to being formulated with charcoal powder. Since my scalp isn’t particularly oily I will be passing this on to a friend, but I was happy that it didn’t leave a white residue.

Sephora Festival Faves April 2019 - Milk Makeup Highlighter In Turnt Front 1

Sephora Festival Faves April 2019 - Milk Makeup Highlighter In Turnt Front 2

Milk Makeup Highlighter In Turnt, 0.1 oz – Estimated Value $6.67 (buy the 0.21 oz version for $14)

This rose gold highlighter provides a subtle sheen that would be perfect at a festival, or just on a regular Tuesday morning when you want to feel pretty. I thought it blended out easily, too.

Sephora Festival Faves April 2019 - Ouai Rose Hair & Body Oil Front

Ouai Rose Hair & Body Oil, 0.33 oz – Estimated Value $3.52 (Buy the 1.5 oz version for $16)

I have been wanting to try this product for a while- I have seriously loved every Ouai product I have tried, and since I already love rose I knew this had the potential to be love at first use. I wasn’t wrong, and now I will need to buy the full-size during the spring Sephora sale. As expected, this smells amazing- it is their signature “Melrose Place” fragrance, which is notes of rose, lychee, bergamot, cedarwood, and white musk. Plus, since this is made with ingredients like shea oil, rosehip oil, and sunflower seed oil it provides tons of moisture to both your hair and body.

Sephora Festival Faves April 2019 - Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Crush Body Fragrance Mist Front

Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Crush Body Fragrance Mist, 1.01 oz – Estimated Value $6.31 (buy the 3.04 oz version for $19)

The Bum Bum cream from Sol De Janeiro is a cult classic thanks to its pistachio and salted caramel scent, and this body spray is the same Bum Bum scent that you can spray all over. I actually adore this body spray, and I love to spray it on after a shower before I get dressed so my entire body can smell great without being overpowering. On days my hair is up and I’m in yoga pants I don’t reach for my higher end perfumes, and this spray is perfect for being low maintenance and still smelling great. This doesn’t last as long as a perfume, but I still feel like it satisfies my needs.

Sephora Festival Faves April 2019 - Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow In Perlina Top View Sephora Festival Faves April 2019 - Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow In Perlina Front View

stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow In Perlina, 0.07 oz – Estimated Value $12.44 (buy the full-size version for $24)

I absolutely adore the glitter and glow eyeshadows from stila - I own several full-size tubes, even more minis, and I would honestly be in heaven if I owned every shade. Perlina is a new shade for me, and it is a white duochrome pearl with flashes of blue, purple, and pink. This fun shade fits right in with the festival theme, but I will definitely rock it whenever I want some extra sparkle.

Sephora Festival Faves April 2019 - Swatch On Hand

Here is the eyeshadow swatched to the right of the highlighter.

Sephora Festival Faves April 2019 - Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Front

Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40, 0.5 oz – Retail Value $16

Right about a year ago is when I really started taking sunscreen seriously (as in, wear it every day and not just when I’m going swimming). Supergoop! Is one of the brands I have really enjoyed using, and the unseen sunscreen reminds me a lot of my Smashbox primer thanks to the silicone base- only it gives me SPF 40 protection! I wouldn't want to wear makeup on top of this, but I have been reaching for it on my makeup-free mornings.

Sephora Festival Faves April 2019 - Verb Ghost Dry Oi Disco Edition Front

Verb Ghost Dry Oil™ Disco Edition, 1.3 oz – Retail Value $8

I loved the way this dry oil felt in my hair (which is no surprise, because I love the regular oil, too), and I was excited about having sparkly hair. This never really made my hair sparkle, however, and I just felt it made my hair look like it had random white flecks that could have been dandruff or paper or really anything other than glitter. This is a miss for me, but I’m seriously contemplating picking up the regular dry oil.

Here is my hair with the verb ghost oil and the amika volume spray.

The Verdict: I think Sephora hit a home run with their Festival Faves Kit - so many of the products were the mini versions of their full-size counterparts (rather than being just samples), and I think they covered all the bases with hair, sunscreen, and pretty makeup. Value-wise, Sephora promised a total value of $95 with this kit, and my math adds up to $90.94.

The Wrap Up

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this kit is still available!

Coupon: Pick your free gift COUPON from this page.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $40.95 ($35 + $5.95 shipping), and I calculated a total value of $90.94. That means you’re paying approximately the following per item:

  • Amika: $4.50
  • Bumble and Bumble: $6.30
  • IGK: $6.30
  • Milk: $3.00
  • Ouai:$1.59
  • Sol de Janeiro: $2.84
  • Stila: $5.60
  • Supergoop!: $7.20
  • Verb: $3.60

Great hair products can be so challenging for me to find because I’m looking for performance AND scent.

So many products are way too heavily fragranced for me. Not only because I want to smell like my perfume (not my dry shampoo), but also because strong fragrances are a major migraine trigger for me.

Can anyone speak to what these smell like and how strong the scent is?

(The only one I’ve tried is the B&B dry shampoo- it’s a little powdery plus a tiny bit floral, but not overwhelming after spraying. I didn’t smell it at all after a couple hours.)

Thanks!

I am also migraine triggered by scents! Here’s what I’ve tried:

– B&B Dry Shampoo, while this scent isn’t for me it doesn’t linger like you said so didn’t cause any migraine issues

– IGK Dry Shampoo, this is a strong dry-shampoo-y scent IMO, but it’s my top dry shampoo for days when I’m probably pushing normal dry shampoo-instead-of-showering territory. Doesn’t trigger migraines, but lingers in the bathroom so I usually do it last in my routine. It also makes both my dogs sneeze.

– The Ouai oil, this is WAY too scented for me and definitely would recommend avoiding for a migraine trigger. Love the feeling of it but can’t tolerate.

– SDJ Bum Bum Spray, honestly this is much more tolerable than the lotion for me for the scent, it doesn’t linger as much as the lotion (which I love but find overpowering and a definite trigger). I’ve been fine using the spray lightly without issue. It does not stay for too long, so may need reapplication.

– Amika, I haven’t tried this particular product but their usual products are not heavily scented enough to be a trigger for me and I imagine this one would be fine! YMMV!

Bummer about the Verb Ghost Oil. This was one of the products that made me order this kit because I wanted some fun hair. I just got mine the other day, so I haven’t had a chance to try everything, but love the Milk highlighter and the Stila glitter shadow!

Try the Eva NYC Glitter Kweeeen spray if you want a sparkly spray in that looks actually sparkly. I love it!

I bought this as soon as MSA posted about it (thanks, MSA!), even downloading the Sephora app to do it (I *hate* adding apps). I’ve been really happy with it and I’m OBSESSED with the Stila Glitter and Glow and I like the Milk highlighter more than I thought. I have very fine, thin, soft hair, so I really can’t have too much dry shampoo. I’m considering buying a second one the value on this is outstanding if you like all the products. The only thing I’m not super sold on is the body mist – it smells great and I totally understand why it’s in a festival kit but I’m pretty attached to my regular cologne. The only miss from a Festival theme standpoint is I thought there would be some glitter (beyond the dry oil) and maybe an invisibobble or some kind of hair ornament/barrette.

Really appreciated this review! I’ve been going back and forth on this.

Thanks for the review! If I needed more hair products I would be so, so tempted. I really like most products here. BTW – when is spring Sephora sale you speak of?

Katie

I believe it starts May 1st. Got an email about it this morning.

Great review, and I hope it’s a fun kit because I just bought one based on your review. 😉
Thanks for the link to the free product code page as well.

The Verb Ghost Oil and their Dry Oil ( regular without the glitter) are the two smooth and shine products I LOVE!!
I actually like the original Ghost Oil a bit better than the Dry Oil because of the way it detangles ends of my thick long curly hair in the back. In the AM, I’ve had to cut knots out before but one tiny drop of Ghost Oil gets it smooth in 2 seconds.
Also, IMO, the shine is better with the original Verb Ghost Oil, but for a young person with oilier hair, the dry oil might provide all the detanging of curly ends and shine you desire.

Neither one make my hair feel oily while many other brands of hair smoothing oil do.
