KitNipBox April 2019 Review

KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, they are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times. This month it was a medieval theme:

The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online.

Kitnipbox April 2019 - Felt

AFP Crinkle Castle Toss Toy – Listed Value $4

This one is made from felt and is very lightweight. The little flag thing was a point of interest for a few of my cats. Monkey mostly wanted to rub his face on it (he does that a lot, these days).

Kitnipbox April 2019 - Guitar

Safemade Folk Guitar – Listed Value $5

This is kind of on the borderline, size-wise, between a toss toy and a wrestler/kicker toy. It’s actually a good size for Monkey. He will totally roll around with toys this size (just not for the camera, of course) but isn’t into ones that are a lot larger. This has a soft, plush texture.

Kitnipbox April 2019 - Shield

Playful Pet Renaissance Kitty Coat of Arms Pillow – Listed Value $4

This is of a similar size as the guitar but is a bit crinklier. I’m thinking this is more of an Angus toy but we will see. This one did garner a few interested sniffs when I was taking photos. (Sometimes it takes a few days of the cats having access to the toys from a box to really get a good idea of who likes what. They aren’t always in the mood to pose for the camera.)

Kitnipbox April 2019 - Sword

AFP Dueling Sword Kicker – Listed Value $6

This is a kicker toy. It’s somewhat narrow. The main point of interest for my crew was the handle, which is some type of leather (or more likely, faux leather) texture. Monkey did rather like licking the fabric of the sword part, too.

Kitnipbox April 2019 - Turkey Leg

Leap Renaissance Faire Turkey Leg – Listed Value $5

This is the smallest of the toys this month. It has a fuzzy texture on the brown part and more of a canvas texture on the white part, and Monkey found this interesting. (As my cats get older, they tend to spend more time investigating textures as opposed to running around like crazy.)

Kitnipbox April 2019 - Wand

Paws ‘N Purrs Medieval Mace Wand – Listed Value $7

This toy generated a lot of interest, but the wands always do (there is one most months in this subscription, and they’re all a little different). Angus mostly wanted to play with the string part and Madison liked the feather.

Kitnipbox April 2019 - Treats

Purebites Freeze Dried Chicken Treats (0.6 oz) – Retail Value $2.99 (found here for $2.29)

Here are this month’s treats – freeze-dried chicken. Sneaky was up for these (she grabbed at them desperately, actually) and Madison liked them as well. Perhaps most surprisingly, Monkey was a fan (he doesn’t usually show an interest in treats).

Gratuitous cat photos:

Angus liked the wand toy.

Look at those claws!

As usual, he mostly wanted to play around the table.

Here’s Madison with some of the toys from the box.

And here are a few pictures with his tongue out, getting ready for treats.

Kitnipbox April 2019 - Monkey 1 Kitnipbox April 2019 - Monkey 2 Kitnipbox April 2019 - Monkey 3

Monkey mostly wanted to rub his face on things, which doesn’t make for great pictures.

Kitnipbox April 2019 - Monkey 4 Kitnipbox April 2019 - Monkey 5

He did make some good faces for the treats, though.

Kitnipbox April 2019 - Sneaky 1

Sneaky says “don’t try to trick me, I know this isn’t real food.”

Kitnipbox April 2019 - Sneaky 2 Kitnipbox April 2019 - Sneaky 3

And then she makes the desperate grab for treats. I did not end up bleeding, this time.

Kitnipbox April 2019 - Sparkles 1 Kitnipbox April 2019 - Sparkles 2

It’s yellow-pollen-on-everything season in Atlanta so Mr. Kitty’s eye area is a little irritated but just trust me when I say he looks like 90% better now than he did a week ago.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $33.99 for the April KitNip Box, which is above the cost of the box by a few dollars. I know I haven’t provided links for most of the products, and that’s because I can’t usually find these brands for sale at retail prices online. I do occasionally see these brands in other cat subscription boxes, and I have found them at wholesale websites before (just not with retail prices). So while I don’t think you would be able to find some (or all) of these items at stores, I feel like Kitnipbox is probably sourcing them from wholesale suppliers, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. We were happy with all of the different textures, although I felt like the box was weighted heavily on the side of very large toys this month and I might like to see a bit more size and shape variation in future months.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your first KitNipBox will ship right after your payment processes, so you should still be able to get March’s box if you sign up now.

COUPON: Use code SUBSCRIPTIONADDICTION15 to save 15% off your first box!

  • Coat of arms $3.52
  • Sword kicker $5.29
  • Turkey leg $4.41

  1. Oh Mr. Kitty! It’s so good to see you sitting up and looking handsome! Great review and beautiful cats.

    • Haha, this picture is a week or two old. He has high blood sugar again and I had to talk to the vet this morning about his insulin dose. But I think we will get back on track pretty soon. (We do a lot of vet stuff over the phone so as not to stress him out by taking him in.)
