Spring 2019 “The Great Battles of Westeros” Game of Thrones Box Review
This quarter’s box featured 8 items from the Lannisters, Starks, and a very cool Night King bust.
You’ll get an information card that details the items in your box. This box couldn’t have come at a better time since the premiere episode of the final season is this Sunday. Will you be watching? Who should sit the Iron Throne??
Red Wedding Plates Set
These plates are awesome for your snacks while you enjoy the new season or binge-watch the older ones to catch up! Houses Frey, Stark, Lannister, and Bolton each get a plate dedicated to their house sigil. These are made of melamine and are quite sturdy, with bright colors and designs.
The Battle of Blackwater Glow in the Dark T-shirt
I literally gasped at this shirt when I pulled it from the box. It is such an unusual subject for a tee, especially with all the other things they could have chosen from this franchise. It shows an illustration from The Battle of Backwater, in all of its explosive green goodness. I absolutely love it because it was such a unique choice, not showing a main character or a sigil, or a quote, but a true action shot. Oh, it also glows in the dark. SWEET.
House Targaryen Pin
Each box has included a pin featuring a house banner, and I say that because I lack a better word for this HUGE pin. It is beautifully done and very dramatic in hand. This is the final of 4 and features the banner of our own favorite dragon queen’s fam.
Battle of the Bastards Magnetic Dry Erase Board
This battle was one of those that gave me goosebumps! The scene where Jon is crushed under a pile of other soldiers was chilling and made me quite claustrophobic. It is truly an iconic battle scene from the tv show and this clever board is a good tribute. The bear is the sigil of house Mormont and was also on Jon’s shield in that penultimate episode.
Targaryen Sigil Lamp
Oooh this is really cool too! This LED lamp perfectly captures the Targ sigil, in a beautiful blue shade of light. I was really surprised that this lamp wasn’t Targaryen red, but maybe this ice blue is a hint at the final “Fire & Ice” revelations to come? #SPOILERS?! Probably not, but this piece is beautifully done and you can use batteries or a USB cable to enjoy it.
House Sigil Throw Blanket
Hey, if you can’t have Tourmund with you to fight off the cold, this fleece blanket is the next best thing. It features house sigils from all the major houses (including my BAEs the Tyrells) and is big enough to wrap up in as I hunker down on my couch to enjoy S8E1!
Verdict: This box really added to my season 8 hype! It feels like we have been waiting so long for this show to come back, and since this is the final season, it is quite bittersweet. Game of Thrones Box truly has all the stuff that would make good accents to a watch party. The plates are perfect for snacking (though I would beware of the friend who eagerly reaches for that Bolton plate) and the blanket should stave off some of those terrors the dark night is full of. Play a friendly game of darts on your magnetic board, and then leave the lamp lit after you turn off the lights as the show starts and be the envy of your comrades as your t-shirt glows.
