March 2019: Can't Clutch This Review

Go Nuts for Donuts Clutch - Estimated Value $29.99

This month's clutch is a fun and whimsical design with a nice semicircle donut flap at the top complete with colorful embroidered sprinkles. This clutch is made from pink pleather and measures 10x8. I was impressed with both the quality and the size of this clutch. I like the textured look of the pink pleather and while the design is a bit cutesy for my taste, I think that the neutral colors really help to make the design feel more subtle. I could see taking this for a girls brunch or a fun night out on occasion.

It features gold hardware and has two loops on the outside that you can use to attach a shoulder strap, and while I appreciate that they are there, I felt like they either needed to commit to the idea of being a clutch and have no loops, or at least include a strap if it is going to be such a noticeable part of the design. They also could have simply hidden them on the inside under the flap, which would have been great too!

As far as adding "flair" or accessories, you have the option to add them to your box each month with no additional shipping charge. It looks like a shoulder strap costs $9.99 while a keychain costs $8.99. While free shipping is nice, I can't help but feeling like there should be some sort of discount for adding these items to your box. But maybe that's just me?

If you aren't too keen on the donut design, you can always flip it over to the back which is just plain pink with this small gold Studio DIY! detail.

The donut flap opens up to reveal one large zippered compartment with pink fabric inside that feels like it will wipe clean very easily, which I can appreciate having had one too many lipsticks open up in my other bags! Inside of this is a small interior zippered pocket. This bag can easily hold all of the essentials and probably a bit more!

Here I am holding the clutch to give you a sense of scale. I really do like the blush pink color and the tan details and think this clutch will go well with a lot of outfits.

The Verdict: I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and size of my clutch from Can't Clutch This. The design was cute and not too over the top, but it is definitely a very subjective one! As for the monthly subscription cost of $27.99, that feels like a lot for one clutch with no included or even discounted accessories. If they had included a cute keychain to go with it, that might have tipped the scales for me just a bit as far as what value I felt like I was getting by subscribing. I like that the designs are exclusive and I thought the quality was good, but I'm not sure if it's worth the $2 savings for this design (based on their clutch retail values of $29.99). While I think it is a lot of money for a month to month subscription, their annual subscription seems to be a bit more affordable at $19.99 per month and might be worth considering since you can skip a clutch if you don't like the design that month!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I purchased a 6 month sub of this when it came out. I’m still waiting for this months shipment.

While I actually love the size and whimsy of the bags, I will also chime in negatively on the lack of at least a wrist strap. I purchased one for the first bag which I really liked, but no way am I going to spend another $13 every month to hook a strap onto the bag.

It’s a weird oversight and one that I think will doom the sub overall.

Make the decorative things optional but not the strap. At this price range, the strap should definitely be included.

It IS cute but having “hooks” for the strap and no strap is odd.

I also think the subscription needs to include a strap, at least for the first month and then every few months for annual subscribers. It’s cute but it seems like something I could find at TJMaxx for $15 and it would include the strap.

LOL no thank you. Wheres the strap? Even if there was a strap this looks so cheap. $30 is insane for that lol. Go to target.

This isn’t a long term sub… Esp. at $29. No offense but those clutches are so ugly (imo)n wouldn’t pay more than $5 at Claire s/walmart. From a business stand pt I don’t see this sub lasting.

I would be unhappy to receive this without the strap.

I would be unhappy to receive this clutch period.

Every single clutch and keychain on her website is marked “sold out”. I guess she only produced a few prototypes for taking the website photo and in-person promotions, and will just produce the stock for one clutch per month for the sub. Weird.

Thank you Brandi for a great review! I agree with you that placing the loop “ears” outside the flap makes the clutch look weird. And how many of us can actually use a clutch for everyday running around, what with having to hold our phone, groceries, keys, dog leash, or children? The strap is a necessity and should be included.
