Bulu Box Weight Loss April 2019 - Box Review Top

Bulu Box is a monthly fitness and weight loss subscription. The original Bulu Box is focused more on fitness and general health supplements, and they also offer a Weight Loss box that focuses more on diet products. This is a review of the original Bulu Box.

Bulu Box provided this box at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Bulu Box Weight Loss April 2019 Review

There are box variations, and sometimes rather heavy product promotion, so you may not always get the same box as someone else or be able to make the connection to weight loss for each product:

The information cards are now generic rather than describing your items.

There was also some product literature. Sometimes this relates to items in the box and sometimes it does not.

Bulu Box Weight Loss April 2019 - Purelyft Top

Purelyft Clean Caffeine All Natural Orange and Original Flavors (0.03 oz each) – Buy a 4-Stick Variety Pack for $9.97

I have received this before, also from Bulu Box (several times). It has green coffee extract (which has antioxidants and caffeine) as well as some vitamins. I personally would not use this before a workout as it is intended because I have hypertension and do mostly cardio which would lead to a blood pressure increase. However, sometimes I get sleepy at my desk in the afternoon, and it is a pretty good pick-me-up for those times. I think I prefer the orange flavor to the original.

Bulu Box Weight Loss April 2019 - Oatmeal Top

Bakery on Main Instant Oatmeal in Apple Pie (1 serving) – Buy 50 Servings for $40.42 (found here for $38.40)

This is gluten-free (not particularly important to me, but figured I would point it out). The ingredients are mostly oat-based (the quinoa and amaranth on the packaging are after cinnamon and sea salt in the ingredients list, so there isn’t very much of them in here), which is fine by me. The pieces are really small and not recognizable as grains, but this actually did have a pretty good texture when I added hot water, and I liked the flavor as well. The calories were a little high (at 200 per serving) for me to regularly consume this, especially since there is so much sugar in it, but that’s probably why I found it tasty…

This item also appeared in the regular version of Bulu Box this month (review coming soon).

Bulu Box Weight Loss April 2019 - Tea Top

Miracle Tree Chocolate Moringa Tea (3 bags) – Buy 6 Boxes of 25 Bags Each for $35.99

I’ve received a lot of Miracle Tree tea from Vegan Cuts. Plain moringa tea is not particularly pleasant, but once they start adding flavors, Miracle Tree teas get way better. Although it is not particularly good for you to sweeten your beverages, this one feels pretty decadent when you add the contents of a honey straw. Moringa is a plant with tons of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids and may help supplement some of these compounds that you don’t get in your diet.

This item also appeared in the regular version of Bulu Box this month (review coming soon).

Bulu Box Weight Loss April 2019 - Protein Top

Sun Warrior Illumin8 Superfood Meal Replacement, Mocha (1.4 oz) – Buy 20 Servings for $35.99 (found on sale here for $34.19)

This is a plant-based protein powder so I was happy to try it out (it also has a lot of fiber and very little sugar, including no added sugar). I don’t just drink protein shakes, but I do like to add protein to my smoothies in the morning. I was a little worried that it was “mocha” flavored because I don’t like coffee, but the coffee flavor is not super apparent when used in a smoothie with other ingredients. This also has a lot of vitamins and a few minerals.

Bulu Box Weight Loss April 2019 - Hydrant Top

Hydrant Lime Hydration Mix (0.31 oz) – Buy 20 for $35

Yay for another vegan/vegetarian item. This has sugar and potassium, sodium, magnesium, and zinc for electrolytes. It tastes like limeade, basically, so it is not bad, flavor-wise. I am just getting over some issues with gingivitis from drinking another beverage like this with sugar in it though, so this is probably not something I would consume on a regular basis.

Bulu Box Weight Loss April 2019 - Coffee Top 1 Bulu Box Weight Loss April 2019 - Coffee Top 2

Genuine Healthy Weight Coffee (4 Kcup pods) – Estimated Value $6.95 (buy a box of 12 for $17.95)

This particular variety is unavailable for purchase (both from Amazon and from the manufacturer’s site) but another sample pack with 4 servings costs $6.95 so it seems reasonable for a value estimate. Instructions were provided for brewing this if you don’t have a Keurig machine (I don’t); see the product literature earlier in the review. I don’t drink coffee (I really don’t like it) so I am passing these along to someone who will appreciate them more. This has Garcinia cambogia, which some people take for weight loss, although WebMD says there is insufficient evidence for that. This also has some anti-inflammatory ingredients (nothing wrong with those) and probiotics (efficacy is questionable on probiotic supplements in general but they are unlikely to hurt you).

Bulu Box Weight Loss April 2019 - Bar 1 Top Bulu Box Weight Loss April 2019 - Bar 2 Top

Garden of Life GOLBar, Chocolate Sea Salt (2.11 oz) – Buy 12 Bars for $26.99 (found here for $20.92)

These have milk protein and I’ll be honest, milk protein bars have a way better texture (in my opinion) than the plant-based ones. (This is my opinion after having tried dozens of brands of both types.) I have had these from subscription boxes before and I also want to note that this chocolate sea salt one works in a way that some of the other flavors don’t (it’s all about texture; the maple sea salt ones need nuts or something, but the chocolate ones work as-is). My husband and I shared this last night as part of our dinner, because we forgot to buy half the ingredients for the dish we were planning to make and had to scramble to find something to eat at the last minute (it was a strange dinner that also involved a pint of Halo Top, two cans of chickpeas, fresh sage, and butter, NOT all in the same dish…).

Verdict: There were 8 samples this month (counting the tea bags together as one item). If you paid full price for this subscription, you paid about $1.25 for each item. I was pretty happy with the box because although the coffee was a miss for me, everything was vegetarian and even though some items were repeats, the repeats were things I like (protein bar, etc.). There were also a few new items to try (Hydrant mix), which I appreciate.

I’d strongly recommend using a coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both since there is a lot of product repetition between the two.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, May would be your first shipment. Also, keep in mind that there are variations in the boxes, so your box might not be exactly like mine in any given month.

Value Breakdown: The April box has 8 samples, so subscribers at full price are paying approximately $1.25 per sample.

  1. Anyone else find “Bulu” a really unfortunate name for a weight loss box? Or is it just me? The first thing I thought of when I heard it was Bulimia…
