Trunk Club January 2019 - Box Review Front

Trunk Club is a clothing styling service for men and womenSubscribers work closely with their stylist to find ideal pieces that are then sent as a trunk to try on and possibly purchase. Trunks can be ordered as often as you like, whether that be once, monthly, or quarterly – Trunk Club goes at your pace.

Liz has featured Trunk Club as one of her all-time favorite subscription boxes – and after a few months of subscribing, it’s towards the top of my favorites, too!

Trunk Club is a Nordstrom company, and they send similar brands that range in the $75-300 range. In the style profile, you can choose your preferred price range for each category (ie. $50-100, $100-200, or $200+)

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

January 2019 Trunk Club Men Review

Trunk Club January 2019 - All Products

Ok, so, I decided to take a different approach this month and it yielded both good results and new information!

I asked for 3 and only 3 items this month – the most important note was this: If your stylist is not sending a lot of clothing to you, they will need to charge you upfront for the cost of keeping all of the items. My stylist made this very clear to me, and let me know before I had made the final decision on my selections.

There’s a little bit of legwork to get up and running with Trunk Club. You’ll go through a series of questions to create your profile:

It starts with this standard question to get a baseline of why you’re trying the service. Next, you’ll pick the basic look you strive for:

After this, you go more in-depth with how you like clothing to fit, along with dislikes:

Then you’ll go through your shopping tendencies:

That was a lot – got it? Good! Let’s go!

You’ll want to go through and find this information. This is what you’ll need to ship back the items you do not want to keep.

Waffle Knit Thermal Wool Blend Pullover – Cost to Keep $70

Let’s start with the least traditional item this month – this pullover sweater with an awesome neckline.

This is my “I’m sick of just standing here, give me an accessory” pose.

This is a wool blend thermal sweatshirt – it’s warm and comfortable, which is unfortunately still what I’m looking for as yet another winter storm has come through.

This is the crossover v neckline. It makes it a touch unique – and I like it!

Trunk Club January 2019 - Faux Shearing Hoodie 1

Faux Shearing Hoodie – $59.49

This became my favorite item of the month – quickly moving from “what is this?” to “this is so comfortable!”.

The fuzziness of this hoodie was just asking for me to do some kind of bear pose to make Andy laugh.

Marne also let me know that she considers this a ‘Teddy Bear Hoodie’ – something that I never knew existed but now fully support.

It’s all-over fuzzy, too.

Most importantly, for me, the lining wasn’t fuzzy – I tend to dislike fleece/fuzzy lining – so this one hit a lot of the checkboxes for me.

My third and final item was a pair of jeans. You can see my wearing these in all of the above photos.

What I loved most about these jeans were that they felt worn-in and comfortable right off the bat. So nice.

Verdict: Limiting this to only 3 items really worked out for me this month – you can edit the amount you’re getting before each delivery – but, again, if you select a small number of items you will be pre-charged for the items in your box. That was not an issue for me this month as I really did love my items – it was a big win.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Trunk Club curates its boxes based on each individual’s preferences as well as what’s available. What you get might not be the same as what I got, but you also might get something that fits your style and body even better than the looks above!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $25, along with the cost of the pieces you decide to keep – Shipping is free both ways.  The total retail value of the items inside my shipment today is $319.49, which is an average of $106.50 per item. The price per piece is listed alongside each product above.

What do you think of my latest Trunk Club? Would you want me to test any other options?

  1. Items are great but $100. a piece? Sounds really expensive for nothing too different that many stores offer for 1/2 the price.

  2. Love the pictures!
