Quirky Crate March 2019 Review
Quirky Crate samples one item from a featured artist each month; this month’s star is Poppy Almond! This info card gives you a little background on Poppy’s work as well as her Instagram and Etsy store info.
On the flipside, Quirky Crate includes an itemized list of each product and its value.
Time to get quirky!!
Summer Hits Cross-Body - Listed Value $28
This bag evokes so much nostalgia for me in such a good way, and what a fun accessory and nod to 90’s pop culture! I like the blue pop of color, and the title of the mixed tape is another fun touch to this faux-leather bag. I love that the metal strap is removable because I think I just found my new go-to travel makeup bag. This bag fits my phone and cardholder, as well as a gloss and car keys, so it could also be a great clutch, too!
90’s Fashion Emergency Binder Kit - Listed Value $7.95
This kit has my inner 4th grader screaming! I lived for Claire’s accessories and always had so many colorful/glittery hair clips at the ready. I wasn’t much of a scrunchie girl, although I love that they are back in fashion because I am a total convert. I am also ecstatic that this kit included the iconic 90’s choker, which I remember buying my first out of a gumball machine. What a time! Also, the composition book art.. Glorious!
90’s Socks - Listed Value $8
This isn’t the first print that comes to mind for 90’s socks, but I obsess. The space pattern on this pair of 100% cotton socks is so simple and cosmically cute! They will be perfectly paired with Converse sneakers this Spring!
Trapper Keeper Enamel Pin - Listed Value $10
The pin this month features a Trapper Keeper adorned with a predictably picturesque tropical scene complete with palm trees and a dolphin jumping out of the water. I love the color and metallic details on this pin. It has two pins on the back for a steady hold and will look great on my pin banner I received in last month’s Quirky Crate!
90’s Pen Throwback - Listed Value $3
This girl loves writing in anything but blue or black, so this pen is my kind of utensil. This classic 90’s ballpoint treasure has 6 different colored inks, and although these pens have a reputation of being clunky and not lasting very long, I will treasure our moments together, at least until the purple ink runs out!
Poppy Almond 90’s Sticker Pack - Listed Value $5.75
Poppy Almond’s Etsy store doesn’t have any stickers, but her art is really giving me band.do vibes! Maybe she was featured in one of ban.do’s sticker books? Regardless, I love this type of fun, girly art! And surprise, surprise: I love stickers! I do think the listed value of $5.75 is a lot for one sheet of stickers, but it is listed as a pack, so I am not sure if there’s been a miscommunication in the price or the listing.
Heart Beret - Retail Value $9.75, Listed Value $16
Bonjour! When I first pulled this beret out of the box, I kind of shrugged and set it aside, but once I put that hat on I wondered why I never became a beret person. This hat is made of wool, so not ideal for Spring or Summer, but I don’t know if that will stop me. The cutesy heart in the front totally sealed the deal for me, too.
Retro Watch - Listed Value $12
I love getting gadgets in boxes, so this watch was a pretty exciting find for me. I pressed the button to set this watch and heard that very memorable beep, and it took me back. I didn’t figure out exactly how to do this yet, but you can also set alarms on this baby, too!
Bubble Tape Gum - Retail Value $1, Listed Value $2 (currently out of stock)
I haven’t had gum with sugar in it for a long time, and this classic bubblegum taste hasn’t changed one bit.
Mini Troll Doll
This item wasn’t listed in this box’s contents, but it is everything! This mini troll is adorable and found his permanent home on my desk.
All decked out in my new 90’s gear! I think I found my new look! 😉
The Verdict: Quirky Crate's 90’s themed box was something that I didn’t expect, but what an awesome blast from the past! I love the various reminders that the ’90s were the best, and I think they killed this curation. Love!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? If you sign up for a subscription, you will receive the April box.
Value Breakdown: The listed retail value of this box adds up to $92.70, over double the amount of the subscription cost of $34.99 + $5.95 shipping. Inside of it came 8 items, which breaks down to approximately $4.55 per item.
