POPSUGAR Must Have Box Spring 2019 Review + Coupon

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. If you buy something, MSA may earn a commission. Read the full disclosure.

POPSUGAR Must Have is a lifestyle subscription box for women. Each season, members get beauty, fashion, food, fitness, and home items from top and up-and-coming brands that POPSUGAR editors have tried, tested, and loved.

This season, POPSUGAR changed their packaging to be more eco-friendly. (No more cardboard exterior box with another box inside.)

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

And as you can see with the “PS, there’s more!” cardboard piece, beneath the cardboard, you’ll find the special extra sponsored goodies! (These items are not counted toward the value of the box.)

The Subscription Box: POPSUGAR Must Have

The Cost: $75 a box

If you haven’t signed up yet, use coupon code MSA20 to save $20 off of your first box!

The Products: “Must Have” items for women selected by POPSUGAR editors. (Fitness, Home, Beauty, Food, and more)

Check out all of my POPSUGAR Must Have reviews and the Women’s Subscription Box Directory!

Each box comes with a booklet detailing the items included, and a letter from Lisa Sugar:

And POPSUGAR also included a card with coupons for the brands featured in the box:

Now, on to the items!

Vooray Burner Gym Duffel in Snow Hex Camo – Suggested Retail Value $49.99

This bag features a large zippered inside pocket, 3 open mesh pockets, a lined pocket on the outside perfect for your phone, and a mesh pocket on the outside for a water bottle:

The top handles are magnetic so they connect + make it easier to carry. And there’s a ventilated shoe pocket:

Personally, I love it as a weekender bag. I can fit 2 outfits, plus all my beauty + sleep essentials:

(FYI – items pictured here are to help show scale – they are what I pack for overnight trips)

And there’s an adjustable strap for wearing it on your shoulder or as a crossbody bag.

T3 Smooth Paddle Brush – Retail Value $35

POPSUGAR included a T3 curling iron in the Neiman Marcus box last year (it’s an amazing hair tool), so getting a matching brush in the Spring box is great for me! (Their line is all white with rose gold accents – super chic.)

This paddle brush has a broad cushioned base designed for giving your hair a smooth finish during blowouts.

The bristles are also heat-resistant, so no worries about getting this brush too close to your hair dryer.

This handle is non-slip and a little squishy so it’s comfortable to hold, too.

It also works on both wet and dry hair.

Anna New York Vola Lucite Clock – Retail Value $85

I love pretty much any decor item made with lucite, so this item was a lovely surprise for me when I opened the box!

The super minimalist design is fab, too. I think it should work with just about any decor.

(It measures about 3.5 inches across.) And engraved on the bottom are the words, “Your time is now.”

Here it is on my shelf to give you a better sense of scale:

Notice any other past POPSUGAR items? 🙂

OSEA Ocean Cleanser – Retail Value $48

I really love the OSEA brand! (I’ll never get tired of seeing it in subscription boxes – especially in full size!) All their products are made with only natural and organic ingredients and everything smells amazing. Plus, how pretty is this frosted bottle? I love packaging that looks beautiful on display in my bathroom!

This cleanser is non-foaming, gentle, and doesn’t dry out skin! It’s great at removing makeup and really left my skin feeling super clean. (If you haven’t tried this cleanser yet, you are in for a treat!)

Manduka 4-Inch Headband – Retail Value $4

This headband is 4% Organic Cotton, 6% Lycra – it’s super stretchy and comfortable. (And I sometimes have issues with headbands being too tight, but no problems here!)

It also stays put thanks to the width, and no weird indents in your hair either. It’s perfect for workouts and getting all your hair out of your face for skincare routines. Here it is on:

Colors may vary, black and white are pictured in the booklet. I’m modeling the black headband here. I’m also wearing the silver version of the necklace that’s up next!)

Kris Nations Opalescent Moon Necklace in Silver or Gold – Retail Value $68

All subscribers could pick the gold or silver version for this box. (This is a perk POPSUGAR added last year, and I think it has been a huge win for subscribers. Metal color with jewelry always seems to be so polarizing!)

The charm is 18K gold vermeil or sterling silver and the chain is Gold-filled or sterling silver.

This necklace has an adjustable length of 16 – 18 inches.

I’m all about delicate jewelry, and this piece is another win for me. (And while I normally go for all gold jewelry, I really like this danity necklace in silver, too.)

Missio Hair Styling Cream – Retail Value $26

This brand is completely new to me (love when that happens in a subscription box) and I’m really impressed with the formula. First, it’s formulated without sulfates, parabens, and phthalates. And it’s safe to use on all hair types + color treated hair.

And the cream is light enough that it didn’t weigh my hair down at all. It helped with frizz and definitely made my hair feel a little softer, too. (This works as a blow dry cream or as a leave in curl defining cream.)

And the scent is fab! It’s fresh citrus with added notes of Indian Sandalwood and Vanilla. (It’s not a strong scent, so you won’t smell it all day like you would with an Ouai product.)

Truwomen Daydreaming About Donuts Protein Bar – Retail Value $2.79

OK, so I haven’t had a real glazed donut in years, but I have tried tons of gluten-free and dairy-free protein bars, so I can definitely evaluate this bar based on other bars in the category. (But keep that in mind!)

First, I was delighted to see that this bar is actually glazed! You eat with your eyes first, right? (I feel like there are a lot of protein bars that forget this part.)

And I really liked the flavor! (Again, haven’t had a real donut in a long time, but compared to other protein bars this was a sweet treat!) I was originally planning on eating just one bite when I first sampled this since I had just eaten, but I kept going back for more and ended up eating the whole thing in minutes! (I also liked how this wasn’t a crunchy bar – no crumbs everywhere issues!)

Also good to mention: it’s 200 calories, plant-based, soy-free too, and they have lots of other flavors that sound equally delicious. This is an excellent new food discovery for me, and I’m already planning on buying more of this flavor and give cookie dough a try!

Now, time for the Special Extras in the box! (If you aren’t familiar, these are extra items that don’t count toward the value of the box. AKA bonus freebies!)

Yogi Green Tea Passion Fruit Matcha Tea – Retail Value $3.99

I drink Yogi tea a lot (I think the $3.99 price point is great for organic tea), so this special extra was pretty much made for me.

Each bag has approximately 20 mg of caffeine.

The blend is a mix of green tea leaf, lemongrass, matcha green tea, ginger root, and licorice. It has a subtle + smooth fruity flavor – perfect if you don’t like a strong brew.

Pronamel Intensive Enamel Repair – Retail Value $5.49

This toothpaste is designed to help repair acid-weakened enamel. The Extra Fresh formula was minty but not very sweet, (I prefer a sweet mint), but I still liked this enough to plan on using the entire tube. Plus good enamel trumps taste-preferences!

Verdict: This box has a retail value of about $318 not counting the special extras! I think that’s a great value for a $75 box, and I personally adore the curation of this box, too. (That works out to less than $10 an item.) I love the focus on wellness/self-care, and the color scheme, too. So many items in this box feel practical AND special = the subscription box sweet spot for me!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  Probably not, but there’s a chance. The Spring Box is sold out, but there is a waitlist, so if you subscribe and a box is available, your subscription will start with Spring. If not, your first box will be the Summer box.

  1. Eh, kind of sucks. The last 2 boxes were amazing, so I was so excited to be a subscriber, couldn’t wait for the Spring box. Now, I’m just hoping the Summer box will make up for this.

    • You might change your mind by the time this arrives. Some of my favorite boxes ended up being those that I was least excited about. Getting something luxe is nice, but I do enjoy getting stuff I actually use. In my office I have my gold pens from Happy Rebel, pencils from FFF, a cute print from Cause Box, and a really cute mug I use as a pencil holder. None of those items excited me when they arrived, but they bring me so much joy now.

    • Ditto.

    • I’m guessing someone would buy for cost

    • Same

    • I just signed up and now it looks horrible when I just looked at the box – bummer
      – will cancel if I get a box that looks like that one

  2. Wow and I do not mean that in a good way. I am not excited about anything in this box. Clock and necklace look very cheap. Only things that slightly even interested me were the duffle bag and cleanser. I have enjoyed my last 2 boxes but this one really missed the mark. All that hype and non release of spoilers had me thinking that it might be really good…..NOPE.

    • Same

    • Same here, I was highly disappointed.

  3. Wow! Very glad that I didn’t buy into the fomo! The value of the clock is a large portion of the box and the item is a huge miss for me. I liked the duffle and the necklace, but thats it. The FFF box is way less and totally a hit for me this time.

  4. I also am a vegan and the snack looks yummy. Glad I got this box.

    • I’ll get good use of this box. Was in need of a brush to use with my heat tools. The bag I’ll either pass to my daughter for gym or ballet) or use for local away trips, since I workout at home. The necklace I’ll use, I think it’s cute. Osea will get good use. It’s a great product. I get frizz from the hard water where I live currently. The tea is one I use already and the toothpaste as well. I’m also vegan and can enjoy the snack. This box hit the mark for me. I like the mix of practical and cute items. Justifies the purchase for me.

    • It IS yummy! And now I’m crying because it’s gone. 😭

  5. I’ll get good use out of most of the items In this box. The bag I don’t need since I workout from home (recommend the Centr app..spelled correctly. I already lost 7 pounds this month). Will pass the bag on to my daughter who can use it for gym class or ballet. If she doesn’t need it I’ll use for local trips away to store my gym clothes and shoes. Really liking the the brush, I was in need of one to use with my heat tools. I like the necklace in silver and will get good use of it. The Osea is a brand I’ve used before. It will be nice to use it again. Very expensive. Terribly hard water where I live, frizz control is a must. The clock will look cute on my desk or nightstand. The tea is one I used already use daily and the toothpaste as well. It’s like they knew me with this box. Down to my tea and toothpaste brands. I enjoy the cute items and the practical. Feels like I’m Saving money on items I already purchase regularly. Justifies the purchase. It hit the mark for me.

  6. This is the same headband that just came in a pack of 12 as an extra in singlesswag.

They aren’t bad but kind of unfinished like if you take a long sock and cut it every few inches. I like them fine except getting 12 in a $40 box was great especially as an extra but then getting one in an $80(I have to pay tax it ends up over 80) just feels meh.

  7. This box is straight up terrible. A corporate gift looking clock,a simple headband, cleanser? RIP Popsugar. You’re clearly coming to an end.

    • Lol, really?? Coming to an end but the box sold out. Um, okay?

      • Lol i like the box i think the clock is cutelove camo so the gym bag is great and i dont have one i like it all

    • Yeah, and they have taught me that if you are even slightly interested in a box, you can buy at a steep discount, like 40 instead of 75 dollars. Just wait for the sale.

      • Where do you find the sale?

    • Corporate gift clock – that’s exactly what it looks like!

    • The clock is cute I don’t get why it looks corporate to you. How many boxes have cleansers in them?

      • Agree about the clock. It looks like something the bank gives you for opening a new account. I wouldn’t be caught dead displaying such a thing in my home.

      • Agree about the clock looking corporate. I was thinking it looks like something the bank would give you as a gift for opening a new account lol

  8. So disappointed. Ugh. And I haven’t even gotten it yet!

  9. Darn… I have all the regrets of not getting it now… the cleanser and duffle and tea would have been nice. The brush isn’t a big deal for me… I mean how amazing can Nylon bristles be?!

    • had my mason pierson for a looong time, since HS and i’ve passed 20 year reunion, lol! with long hair, can make a difference but not sure about short hair…

you can still try and order + be on this “wait list” + PSMH was super nice; in one quick msg they said they would refund if didn’t make the spring box cut + should know in next 2 weeks – was beyond nice as they really did not have to even offer….

wish the clock said nothing, would be cooler imo, at least it doesn’t say “your time is up”

  10. This box is a complete miss for me. I’m glad I canceled. I used to love PopSugar, but now these quarterly boxes are uninspired. I really miss the monthly boxes.

    • I miss the monthly boxes too! Quarterly is just too much of a gamble for me. I’m glad I canceled as well because this box and the last box would have been misses for me. I’m sticking with my yearly FFF.

  11. Nope i wish i would of canceled nothing interest me but the cleanser and headband!

  12. I am really excited for this! Everything is so practical and I will be able to use everything. That clock is beautiful – I actually moved things around on my desk in preparation for it (next to my Kate Spade easel calendar we got a season or two ago). Also I finally get to try Osea. I’ve heard so many good things and I’ve been wanting to try them for awhile. The T3 paddle brush is gorgeous – another brand I have been wanting to try. So this box has a lot of firsts for me and I am really happy with this. Even the extras are thoughtful. The tea I know my husband will love.

  13. The only thing I have no interest in is the clock. Not my style. But the rest looks great to me. Headband is a surprise hit, as i always need one for soccer, which is why I subbed (for the bag) and I am very excited for the brush. Hurry and send it to me!!! Lol

  14. I was really hoping that going to quarterly would give them the opportunity to do a more thoughtful curation and stop giving us items you might find in the bargain bin at Ross. But nope. They are still at it. Nothing against Ross, but not for $75, and not this particular stuff. There is nothing here I would pay more than $7.99 for, except maybe the Osea, which I’ve already gotten in SO many other boxes. Time to unsubscribe.

  15. Excellent box! Great choices for me, will use and enjoy everything! My first box, but will not be the last.

  16. Would anyone be interested in trading the duffle for the Sunday Riley C.E.O. Glow Vitamin C + Turmeric Face Oil (15 ml Retail Value $40) and the Sunday Riley A+ High Dose Retinoid Serum (8 ml Value Approximately $22.67) from the January Allire Beauty Box?

    • Hi Estalyn! I’d be happy to trade my sunday riley for your duffle! Are you on the MSA swap site?

      • Christianne, I am! What is your link? I’ll keep an eye out for when you post it and I’ll send you a swap offer!

        • Whoops…I think I wasn’t clear in my original post. I’d like to get a duffle. I have those Sunday Riley items to trade for it. 🙂

          • I would totally be down to trade that! I have so many overnight bags already.

          • Michelle Jolene – awesome! Are you on the swap boards? What is your URL for your page/profile? I’ll look for you and the bag. 🙂

  17. This box is the least interesting one. Cause box looks awesome and it’s $20 cheaper. So I may be grabbing that one.

    • It’s sold out with a wait list so I’d go go causebox.

  18. That clock looks like a corporate gift. 85 RV is ludicrous.

    • I literally told one of my coworkers that earlier today. Like I almost expected to see “Happy 10-year anniversary with the company” on the back of it! LOL

  19. I love this box. Popsugar is one of the few subscriptions that I actually use the majority of the items in the box and it’s usually great quality. I’m excited.

  20. I love this box! It’s almost a 100% perfect fit for me down to the tea and toothpaste. The only thing I probably won’t use is the hair styling cream but I’m totally ok with that. I’m so happy! And, yes, I’m thrilled we get to choose our jewelry color.

  21. Besides the gym bag, which is why I ordered, the only thing I’m really “excited” about is the tea. Lol. Ah well. I’ll use the toothpaste and maybe the cleanser although my skin doesn’t isn’t a big fan of citrus oils.

The lucite clock just plain cracks me up. Who on earth would actually pay $85 for that?

  22. I’m happy for the subscribers who like it, but glad I canceled after the Fall Box (which I liked so much I snagged a second one at a big discount). I would’ve liked to try the protein bar and tea, though. Yum!

  23. The quality looks great here, but none of the big ticket items are a good fit for me. (Am I the only one who dearly misses the monthly boxes?) Hope everyone getting this box enjoys!

    • I miss the monthly boxes more than there are words, but at this point, I’m extremely grateful for their continued curation of the quarterly boxes/

I especially appreciate that this Spring quarterly box is filled with mostly useful things instead of some of the past ” resort wear” items for Spring.

      • So true, Lilly! And the resort inspired boxes always made me sad not to be going to a resort.

        • Oh, absolutely x 100, Jessica.
I married a man who’s extremely devoted to both home and career, but his managerial responsibilities have increased over the years to the point that he can’t really be away for more than a long weekend.

Last trans- Atlantic flight I took was in 2000. I could cry when the resort things are featured, because I love to travel so much. And I’m dying to go on one of the new Viking Cruise Line ships to absolutely anywhere. 😉

          • Go without him. It won’t harm either of you. Life is short.

          • Julia, my 2 weeks in Paris was alone, unexpectedly. And hubby is the one who’s fluent in French. He missed out on the best vacation I’ve ever had, though. 2 weeks in a 3 room suite at the Georges Cinq, first class Air France. Maybe my memories will sustain me like hyacinths for the soul. 😉

          • I hope you and your husband will do lots of globetrotting in your retirement years. And if that’s too long to wait, I second the self-travel plan!

          • Lilly, having lived in Paris, that trip sounds like heaven!! understand though, had twins + don’t travel as much as the pre-kid days which was a lot!

      • miss monthly soooooo much! keep hoping they will bring back!

    • Me. I miss the monthly too. $75 is just too steep for this. $55.00 maybe.

      • Agreed, although this month they got $0 from me!

    • Totally agree on both points. The items in this box are nice, but I wouldn’t use any of them — I would have been swapping the entire box. And most definitely YES, YES, YES, I REALLY miss the monthlies!!

    • I, too, miss the monthly boxes. I miss the mini boxes as well.

    • I miss the monthly theme boxes so much more than these quarterly boxes!!

    • I definitely miss the monthly boxes, i feel like a little more time, could go into curating the seasonal boxes.

  24. I LOVE this box! I was going to stay spoiler- free as far as a full review, but just couldn’t help myself.

They ARE still charging for the Spring box, as I was charged today, and hopefully my box will ship soon.
I think there’s a good chance that a lot of people on the waitlist who want this box will also be charged today. Hang in there if you like the contents. 🙂

The little Lucite clock brings back a lot of memories for me. I remember when the large corporations I worked for, and the one my husband still works for gave clocks like this to employees for little bonus gifts for corporate goals met, or milestone anniversaries and so forth.
I’ll be glad to get one, as I can’t find the last lead cut crystal one I had..
Too much re-organization to ” Spark Joy” but mostly, I lost things LOL.

I’m looking forward to the snack, as a 200 calorie high protein bar is a really good snack and I’ve not found a gluten free bar I like in a long time.

Love the hair products, hope I get a black hairband as I have many white ones, and am really glad the Osea product is one of their skincare items I haven’t tried yet. Yay.

My little moon necklace will be gold, and that’s fine. They sold out of silver ones. My zodiac sign is Moon Child, and I’ve never had a moon necklace before. 😉

Oh, and that’s the toothpaste I use twice daily and love. I agree that it’s really strong, though. My eyes water, but it works well, especially when I put my night guard in afterwards.

The items aren’t spectacularly unique, but they are all good, solid nice things to have, IMO.
I’m looking forward to everything. 😉

    • Lilly, haha your comment gave me a good laugh.
“Too much re-organization to ‘Spark Joy’ but mostly, I lost things LOL.”

  25. I want the gym bag. I don’t *need* the gym bag, because I have a perfectly good one now, but I want it!!

    • My gym is here in our house so I’m not at all sure what I’m going to do with a gym bag… Funny, I just realized that I don’t go out to a communal sweaty gym this weekend.

Maybe this will be a good weekender bag, like Liz shows so well. And I have all the products she put in hers, except my sleep sound soother is a different brand and shape.

    • If you want the gym bag and don’t want to try to swap for it Vooray has 30% off this weekend

  26. Well I do not feel like I missed out. Yay me!

    • Same. Glad I canceled. Only thing I would have used is the toothpaste…

  27. Man am I glad I didn’t get on that wait list. Watch so many spots open up now. I highly doubt they sold out so quickly. 😬

  28. Oof. SO glad I cancelled this one and CAUSEBOX. Dodged a bullet this season.

    • Me too. I didn’t get any of the quarterly spring boxes from anyone this year and I’m thankful to not have tons of stuff I don’t need and to save the $. Fall and winter tend to be my favorite seasons for boxes.

    • Me too. I didn’t get either and I’m NOT sad about it No FOMO.

  29. I like it but I don’t love it.

  30. I am just…. let down by this box. It is not that it is bad but it just bores me to death. I hate the clock, it looks so cheesy to me but that is just because I hate lucite. If someone wants it I would be happy to send it along. I wish I had cancelled :/ This is what I was really afraid of when they stop showing spoilers long before the bill date.

    • I would LOVE the clock! Message me your price! abbyhunt at msn.com 🙂

  31. I really like this box, its colors, it’s curation. It just doesn’t seem like a lot of stuff. Maybe I’m getting used to fabfitfun’s huge-assortment boxes. And I think we got a lot more extras in the past few boxes.

  32. LOVE this box….. great curation …. my darling niece gets the gym bag and necklace…. all the rest I keep…… so happy with the practical aspect…. fun new products to try…. COOL clock…. “your time is now”…. a good reminder…. !!! 🙂

  33. That clock is definitely something you would get as a “congratulations on working here for 10 years” item from some companies. I’ve also received similar ones from serving on committees at conferences and the like. Yikes.

    • My thoughts exact!

    • Yeah, all I could think of when I saw it was it it reminds me of the odd prizes I used to win at horse shows. Definitely not anything I would ever put my house

    • Exactly only in this case there is not even any engraving of your office name or special award. LOL.

  34. Hemmed and hawed and so glad I did not cancel. I am admittedly pleasantly surprised by this quarter’s box. Yay!

  35. Really hoping someone will want that clock in swaps.

    • I really like that clock!

    • Definitely! It’s already on my follows. That and the brush are the two things I’d use from this box.

  36. Fantastic box! The items are very unique to subs – don’t think I’ve ever gotten a hairbrush before (besides the one I did as an Add-On with FFF) and that gym bag will be super useful!!! No idea where I’ll put the clock but it is gorgeous – and I’ve gotten nothing like it with all my years of sub boxes!

    • Good point on the uniqueness – this box definitely feels fresh and different! 🙂

  37. I really want this brush but nothing else from the box. If someone wants to swap their brush please let me know! I am following it. 🙂

  38. *runs to the swap boards for all the toothpaste and brushes*

  39. 💯 percent! 5/5 stars! Will use every item! Thanks popsugar

    • Yay! Glad to hear this box is a hit for you! 🙂

  40. What a great box. I don’t ever keep beauty products because I’m super particular and have allergies and acne prone so it’s nice to see nice quality items for myself other than beauty. Clock, bag and brush are a hit and I already traded the necklace for a kimono! Stoked!

  41. Nice variety and that is my toothpaste too. I will be swapping the gym bag but will use the rest.

  42. Oh, and I am also disappointed in the new box – the old inner one was excellent for storage.

  43. I am thrilled by the clock!! Any time an Anna New York item is included I’m happy.

  44. I’m looking to swap my full size Sunday Riley A+ serum for the gym bag if anyone is interested!!

    • Me, me, me Nicole! I’d be happy to swap the serum for my duffel bag. I’m usually one of the first to receive my Popsugar box so it’ll be soon.

  45. Popsugar is the box I’ll never cancel. All the others, FFF included, get the ax. Lol.

    • Same sista!!!! My fff is up after the spring box and it most certainly is a goner as i already cancelled. Cancelled RZ after winter too & dont miss it yet. But i LOVE my PopSugar….i just cant quit it! Still miss the monthly box too.

  46. I never thought I’d say that, but I am glad I had cancelled. I don’t need a gym bag, a hair brush, a clock, a cleanser, a blow dry cream ( I let my hair air dry), a cheap necklace or a headband (I pull my hair in a bun). Money saved again, as with FFF and Causebox.

    • I have been really impressed with Popsugar in general, but I skipped this box…and I’m glad I did. It’s not that the items are bad or low quality (except that necklace looks suspect), but it’s just not a good fit for me personally. I have a great gym bag, just bought a paddle brush, don’t need a weird lucite clock cluttering up my life, ditto for the overplayed moon necklace, and I air dry my hair.

I am, however, sad to have missed out on the donut bar.

      • Christy – doughnut bar: I hear ya!

      • I also canceled awhile ago and am not too sad. The brush is nice but the bag and clock I definitely don’t need. Why do they put those sayings on everything?? I think it kinda makes the item look cheap.

    • Me too. Although I like several items I don’t feel like I missed out on this box. I didn’t like the winter box either. My tastes they are a-changing

  47. I kind of feel like popsugar is *back* with this box and I’m really excited about it. Its not often that I feel like I’d use just about everything included!

  48. I really like the bag and the clock, but the rest of it is just okay for me.

  49. I will never look as good does in a headband.
    Super thrilled with Osea!

    • As good as Liz does*
      Oops 🙂

  50. Wow great box great review. I’m just don’t need more “stuff”… trying the minimalist route now (except for skincare lol.)

    • Of course first comment, first grammar mistake…I meant “I” not “I’m”
