Heart + Honey Queen Bee Box March 2019 Review
This month's Heart + Honey theme is "Flapper".
On the back is a thoughtful note regarding flappers, women's roles in the 1920s, and a small summary of the included goodies.
First up is a paper telling us that this month we received a Vamp kit with both historically inspired and modern beauty essentials for a 20s flapper. Let's see what's inside!
Vintage Style Makeup Bag
This little bag is really pretty and well made! It easily unzips and has a satchel style frame inside that allows it to open really wide and gives it extra structure. I think the navy and saffron printed fabric is really beautiful. It is pretty much the perfect size for an on the go makeup kit or small clutch for a night out.
Included is also a card with info about the maker of some of our vintage-inspired makeup in the pouch. LBCC Historical is a small business that specialized in recreating vintage makeup formulas with updated (and often safer!) ingredients. They make their products with organic and sustainable formulas. It looks like they are on a little break right now, but be sure to check the out if you are into vintage makeup trends and formulas!
LBCC Rouge Vegetal Rose Liquide
This little glass bottle has liquid blush inside! It smells like roses because it is made with rose water and reminds me very much of Benefit Benetint but with better color payoff and a cuter bottle! This stain can be used on your lips, cheeks, anywhere you want to add a rosy tint. It dried fast and was buildable and long-lasting. It also is just really pretty and I love the way it looks on my vanity.
L'ORÉAL Infallible Matte-Matic Liner - Retail Value $8.99
I think I prefer a liquid eyeliner, but this formula is a great option if you like a pencil for your perfect smokey eye! I always appreciate a pencil that doesn't require a sharpener, and the dark black waterproof formula of this eyeliner is a winner on my lids too.
Here is one layer of the stain and a few stroked of the eyeliner.
LBCC Apothecary Lilac Toilet Water 4.25 fl oz
This is a blast from the past for sure! Toilet water sounds kind of awful, but it is basically lightly perfumed water you can use after showering or a bath. It gives your skin a light fresh scent and is very refreshing. This one smells just like lilacs and is bright, springy, and feminine! If you prefer lighter perfumes, something like this might be a good replacement for traditional perfume.
Crystal Feather Comb
This comb is so sparkly and pretty! I have no idea where I would ever wear it but I can't deny that it fits totally with the flapper theme! It is really quite large, and super in your face sparkly. It would be perfect for a very fancy night out or a 1920s themed party or gala.
Here I am wearing it and giving you my best moody flapper gaze. It is worth repeating how big this comb is. I have a pretty large noggin and it takes up quite a lot of head real estate. A really dramatic piece!
Heart & Honey 1920s Time Capsule
Oooooh! This is really special. I have actually never gotten anything like this in any box, ever. Included this month was an envelope with an authentic antique photograph and postcard from the 20s. The postcard was postmarked 1928. Also in the envelope was a tiny crystal shoe clip. I absolutely adore things like this and I collect vintage ephemera, so it was thrilling to hold these pieces in my hands. My imagination took off immediately looking at the young woman's photo and the short but thoughtful postcard. What was her name? Where was she from?? The postcard was a little 'hello' note from a vacation in South Carolina. The crystal clip might just find its way into a necklace transformation since I love the shape so much. Stuff like this is pure subscription box magic in my opinion. I would love to see more features like this in future H&H boxes!
Dhlover Kisstoy - Retail Value $52.91
The toys that come in the sub are always super exciting! This month contains one of my favorite types. This beautiful vibe has a removable cap that opens to reveal a round tip. This end provides air stimulation that provides a feel unlike other types of toys. It actually blows air outwards but feels more like a suction. Without going into detail, I will let you know this is my absolute favorite type of vibe. You can also use the other end for a traditional vine experience. This one couldn't get much prettier, with its classic white medical grade silicone, gold accent, and crystal button. It has 10 different patterns and strengths and is waterproof. It easily recharges with the included magnetic USB cord.
Verdict: Heart + Honey is once again absolute magic. The 1920s flapper theme was stunningly curated to perfection. This sub always takes sex and puts it in a healthy, beautiful, and in this case, historical context that no other box can deliver. This is one of those boxes that has no real peers because the curation is so creative and the items are always so thoughtfully selected. I thought the inclusion of historically inspired beauty products was so engaging, and the time capsule literally took my breath away because it felt so special. The vibe is the prettiest I have ever owned and tied into the flapper inspiration right down to the crystal on and off button. This box truly managed to capture the flapper essence and deliver it to me in a modern and beautiful way. Although the value this month is nearly impossible to estimate, the vibe itself is worth over $50 and the eyeliner around $9. This is one of those subs where in addition to products, you also get an experience, so for me, the value is more than there. I literally can't wait until next month!
