JoahBox February 2019 Review

When you first subscribe to JoahBox, there are four drop-down menus to customize your experience:

You will choose your birth month (perhaps for a birthday surprise?), skin tone (ranging from "very fair" to "dark brown"), your skin type, and if you'd prefer to receive more skincare, makeup, or both.

To my surprise, this month's "box" actually came in a grey drawstring pouch! I wonder if they will all come this way moving forward? We'll see! I like it though because it's sturdy enough that I can totally use this for travel and to store things.

There's an info booklet with each delivery that goes over the included items and how to use them. It's best to hold onto this since a lot of the packaging is in Korean only.

You'll also get a collectible playing card.

Now let's see what we got!

Milimage Bashful Blusher - Listed Retail Value $12.00

Eeee this compact is so pretty! I love the pinkish red color and simple design. It's cute but grown up at the same time. The closure is magnetic so it's really easy to open and close, unlike some compacts. Once open, it reveals a matching pinkish red cream blush with a mirror in the lid. I'm a big fan of cream blushes these days and prefer them over powders because I feel like they're easier to manage and less messy. The cream is ultra lightweight and heavily pigmented, so just a dab on the fingertip goes a long way. It also has a powdery finish to it so you really get the best of both worlds. Big fan of this one! I'll have to keep an eye out for this brand. There are three variations I could have received: pink, coral, or rose. It isn't marked in English but I think mine is "rose" after doing some research online.

Milimage Face Tone Cealer - Listed Retail Value $15.00

Lucky me, they've included a second item from this brand. This one comes in a beautiful pale seafoam green compact and like the blush has a magnetic closure. Inside you'll find four different skin correcting colors to combat any blotchiness you may come across as well as a mirror in the lid. White, green, yellow, and purple all coincide with problem areas. The white conceals fine lines and wrinkles, green takes care of redness, yellow will help with purple tones like under eye circles and purple will correct any yellow tones. To be honest, these all look similar once I put them on designated areas of my face but maybe that's what's supposed to happen? It gives my face an even base to start with before using my BB cream.

Here are swatches of the two compacts with the blush at the top.

British M Ethic Shampoo, 2.7 oz. travel-size - Estimated Retail Value $6.71 (Buy a full-size 14.88 oz. bottle for $37.00)

Now that I've abandoned my latest hair care regimen, I tried this shampoo out. Last month we received a hair treatment by the same brand but I didn't want to break my routine. This shampoo is a lot thinner than I expected and wasn't like a typical consistency. It was a bit more watery, but still gave me a good lather and has a minty scent to it.

Infused with nourishing ingredients and antioxidants, like green tea and aloe extract, this shampoo strengthens your hair from root to tip to gives you soft, silky hair that’s easy to manage.

Sounds pretty good! My hair feels clean and light, so I think this is a keeper!

Aqulabo Mask Boosting Jelly Mist, 1.69 oz. travel-size - Estimated Retail Value $8.00 (Buy a full-size 6.76 oz. bottle for $32.00)

Here's a product I've never seen before! A jelly mist to be used before putting on a sheet mask. For someone who does so many sheet masks, I'm surprised I'm not familiar with this! This is supposed to keep the pH balance of your skin and hydrate while you mask as well as help absorb any nutrients. I thought it'd feel a lot more gelatinous once I sprayed it on, but the mist is fine enough that it almost just felt like a toner. It's hard to say if this helped but I did use it with the next included mask. Not sure if it made a difference, but I'll have to try it more to find out.

Butiqlab Premium Mask Pack in Aloe Vera - Listed Retail Value $1.50

There were three variations on this item and I received the aloe vera. There was nothing stand-out about this mask when I put it on. Basic sheet, it fit my face pretty well and I think the jelly mist actually helped it cling better. It immediately felt super cooling which was nice and I left it on for 15 minutes. Afterward, my skin had a light gummy sheen on it that I didn't love, but I just left it and allowed it to seep in. After about a half hour it was absorbed and let my face really soft and plump.

Verdict: I really liked this month's JoahBox! Both compacts were super cute and contained helpful and nice makeup products I can use. The shampoo was surprisingly nice, and I discovered jelly mist along with a hydrating aloe vera mask. All useful and new to me, so it's a win!
