Gramma In a Box March 2019 Review
This card describes the candy and cookie projects for this month. On the back, it lists the contents of the box as well as a list of items that you would need from home. It also mentions that the two sheets of included wax paper were to be used as placemats to make for easy cleanup. This month's theme is St. Patrick's Day Treats.
Project #1: Shamrock Pretzel Pops
The first candy project was to make Shamrock Pretzel Pops. Our recipes each come on their own card with a list of ingredients on the back. Everything is well-planned out and easy to follow since they are always labeled in the order that you should make with important information written in red.
The first step was to melt our chocolate wafers in the microwave and stir them until the chocolate was smooth.
Then we set out our lollipop sticks and arranged three pretzels around them to look like shamrocks.
We then dipped the end of each pretzel into the chocolate and attached it to the stick, then topped it with the sprinkles and put them aside so they could set. These were good, but I could have used a bit more chocolate on them, but that's a personal preference of a chocolate lover. Any time there is a project involving chocolate and pretzels it goes over well with my family!
Project #2: Crispy Pot O'Gold Cups
The next project was to make Crispy Pot O'Gold Cups using Rice Krispies and our leftover chocolate from the first project.
My daughter set out the mini baking cups for us and then I poured the cereal into the leftover melted chocolate for her to stir together.
Then I distributed the mixture between the six cups and my daughter added the gold sprinkles to the top of our little pots of gold. We always make such a nice team on these projects! These are always one of my favorite treats because the sweetness of the chocolate with the crunch of the cereal is such a good combination.
Project #3: St. Patrick's Day Cookie Decorating
The last activity was our cookie decorating, which is always a family favorite.
I set out all of our supplies and you can see how eagerly they were watching! We received two large shamrocks, two pots of gold and four mini shamrock cookies along with icing in yellow, green, and white. We used the leftover sprinkles from the first two projects plus the two other containers of sprinkles we were given.
Then we got to work decorating!
Here are all of our finished products. There were 20 in total: 8 cookies, 6 crispy pots o'gold, and 6 shamrock pops all in a festive array of green and gold!
All of the treats were enjoyable as usual and it was just enough for a few for each of us.
I always appreciate the individual recipe cards for each project because they are easy to save and use again!
Clean up is always easy with these projects. I just recycle all of the plastic containers inside the box it came in and then a quick wipe means we are good to go and can move on to our next activity. Fortunately, this time it was bath night, so we were able to wash away all of the green sprinkle stains from my son's mouth and fingers! I love not having a pile of dirty dishes at the end since it means that's more time I get to spend with my family.
Verdict: Each month our Gramma In A Box arrives with three easy projects that the kids and I enjoy doing together. Especially since the end result is a plateful of yummy treats! Everything is organized and planned out so that I don't have to do anything but enjoy the process and have fun with the kids, which is pretty valuable to me as a mother of three kids under five. I love the homemade feel of this box and for $20 we enjoy the convenience and hassle-free experience as well as the built-in family bonding time!
