The Bookish Box “Time Travel” February 2019 - Stolen Time by Danielle Rollins Front

The Bookish Box “Time Travel” February 2019 - Stolen Time by Danielle Rollins Back

Stolen Time by Danielle Rollins - Retail Value $17.99 (found on sale here for $12.32)

Book Summary:

“Seattle, 1913
Dorothy spent her life learning the art of the con. But after meeting a stranger and stowing away on his peculiar aircraft, she wakes up in a chilling version of the world she left behind—and for the first time in her life, realizes she’s in way over her head.

New Seattle, 2077
If there was ever a girl who was trouble, it was one who snuck on board Ash’s time machine wearing a wedding gown—and the last thing he needs is trouble if he wants to prevent his terrifying visions of the future from coming true.”

The premise of this book is interesting. Dorothy is pushed by her con artist mother to marry a man for money and in true runaway bride fashion, she escapes in her wedding dress. She hides away in what ends up being a time machine and is transported from 1913 to 2077 where she meets a group of time travelers and the adventures begin. The team of travelers is on the hunt for the missing professor who created the time machine and Ash, the other main character, is extra motivated to find the professor and hopefully get the opportunity to change his own dreadful future.

I guess it should be expected that a time travel story would jump around in time. In Stolen Time, this occurs while telling the story from the perspective of Dorothy, Ash and the professor. Unfortunately, my "mommy-brain" couldn't keep up. I steal away a few hours at the end of the evening, when the kids are in bed, to enjoy my books. With Stolen Time, you need a fresh and attentive mind to follow the story. This would be a good vacation or beach read! Spoilers suggest that the end is totally worth it and will leave you anxiously awaiting the second book in this series.

Star Gazing Candle Carousel by The Bookish Shop – Listed Retail Value $10.00

This candle carousel by the Bookish Shop is a unique addition to this month's box. I definitely needed the instructions to put it together. The heat from the candle makes the wheel spin fast! Unfortunately, once assembled, there is nothing holding and locking the carousel in place. One slight bump and it disassembled!

The Bookish Box “Time Travel” February 2019 - Notepad

Across Space & Time Notepad by The Bookish Shop – Listed Retail Value $5.00

These are more like a slightly wider and thinner pack of sticky notes than a notepad. However, the galaxy design is unique and I like the muted purple color.

Doctor Who Inspired Tote by The Bookish Shop – Listed Retail Value $15.00

This Doctor Who inspired tote contains one of my favorite quotes! “I am and always will be the optimist." It continues: "The hoper of far-flung hopes and the dreamer of improbable dreams." I've been carrying around this tote since I received it!

Outlander Necklace by The Bookish Shop – Listed Retail Value $10.00

The medallion on this Outlander inspired necklace has a good weight and the necklace is well made. I’m not a fan of Outlander, the historical time travel series, but this necklace is quite cute.

Special Edition Horoscope Bookmark (2/12) by Gabriella Bujdoso – Listed Retail Value $7.00

This Pisces bookmark designed by Gabriella Bujdoso features Poseidon, one of the strongest gods of Olympus, the god of the sea, and the symbol of the strong but sensitive Pisces. It is the second bookmark in a series of twelve.

The Verdict: I'm still on the fence about this month's book choice but will stick with it because I have to know how it ends! I enjoyed all the book inspired goodies in this month's box. I just wish the candle carousel was a little sturdier. The tote is my absolute favorite bookish goodie thus far! As always, I love how Bookish Box sets a theme and carries it throughout the books and book-related items. All incorporated time travel in one way or the other. I’ve been impressed with the diversity of partnerships featured in past boxes and noticed that most items in this month’s box are from the Bookish Shop. I don't mind this at all. All the items are nice and there was an additional item included in this month's box. I really enjoyed this box.

This Bookish Box costs $36.49 and has a listed retail value of $61.00. I usually think the listed values are a little high but, this time, the values seem about right. The total is quite a bit more than the price of the box itself making it a good value for a newly released book and unique book inspired goodies.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the March box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $36.49 after shipping, which means that each of the 7 items in the box has an average cost of $5.21.
