Apocalyptic Beauty Review February 2019 - All Contents Top

Apocalyptic Beauty Review February 2019 - Information Card Top

Apocalyptic Beauty included two information cards: the first lists all the items included and all of their ingredients, and the second is a business card listing all of their social media.

Apocalyptic Beauty Review February 2019 - Items 1 Top

February’s theme is Malevolent Mermaid, and the shades sampled are magical shimmery blues and a surprising purple duochrome. And glitter that would satisfy any mermaid!

Apocalyptic Beauty Review February 2019 - Items 2 Top

Their motto is “Stand beautiful amid the ruins.” --- fingers crossed!

Apocalyptic Beauty Review February 2019 - Shadow 1 Watery Grave Top

Watery Grave - Estimated Value $5

Medium blue with silver sparkle is a tricky shadow color to work with, but if you have the right mermaid spirit, it will all fall into place!

Apocalyptic Beauty Review February 2019 - Shadow 2 Siren Song Top

Siren Song - Estimated Value $5

I have an obsession with duochrome, and this violet with a blue shift is so beautiful! It will pair perfectly with the blue and green colors sampled this month.

Apocalyptic Beauty Review February 2019 - Shadow 3 Strangling Seaweed Top

Strangling Seaweed - Estimated Value $5

This color is what comes to mind when I think of mermaids. This green has a beautiful gold shimmer, the perfect color for when you’re feeling nostalgic for summer.

Apocalyptic Beauty Review February 2019 - Full Fathom Five Glitter Top

Full Fathom Five Glitter - Estimated Value $4.25

Multicolored, iridescent hexagons and peachy holo seashells--what more could a mermaid want??!

Apocalyptic Beauty Review February 2019 - Lovecraftian Lip Gloss Top

Lovecraftian Lip Gloss - Estimated Value $8.85

I love a fun, funky colored lip gloss, and this turquoise with silver shimmer will definitely turn heads! Their formula is very smooth and moisturizing, with no stickiness to report.

From left to right: Watery Grave, Siren Song, Strangling Seaweed, Full Fathom Five Glitter (using NYX glitter glue), and Lovecraftian Lip Gloss

Apocalyptic Beauty Review February 2019 - After Makeover Look 1 Front

Here is the look I came up with using these fun shades. I started off with a nude shadow base, then blended a nude shadow to set my base, followed by a rosy pink shade all over my lid. I then shaped out where I want my eyeshadow with a vivid purple eyeliner. After I got a workable shape, I wet an angled liner brush and dipped into Siren Song, the beautiful duochrome purple with a blue shift, going over that purple pencil. I then used the same wet brush and dipped into Strangling Seaweed and traced the corner of my lower lid up the side of the purple I laid down. I then blended Watery Grave from the middle of my lower lid into Strangling Seaweed.

Apocalyptic Beauty Review February 2019 - After Makeover Look 2 Front

After the shadow, I decided it was glitter time! I applied NYX Glitter Glue under my brows and under my eye (to showcase this mermaid’s shells). I dipped my finger into Full Fathom Five Glitter and kept adding to under my brows until I felt like I had a sufficient amount of bling. After that, I decided that I needed a little glitter for my eyeshadow look, so I applied Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter in PYRO to the center of my lid. I am loving all of this iridescent glitter!!!

Apocalyptic Beauty Review February 2019 - After Makeover Look 3 Front

When I felt my glitter desire was quenched, I applied a pink stain to my lips then topped it off with Lovecraftian Lipgloss.

I really loved this look! Although it isn’t quite wearable in my day to day, I was going for more of an ethereal, fun look (not malevolent today!).

The Verdict: Apocalyptic Beauty Look of the Month Club themes are always so fun to work with! The colors sampled this month were so dreamy and had me fantasizing of summer and the bright colors that come with it. I thoroughly enjoy exploring Apocalyptic Beauty’s products, so, naturally, I look forward to seeing how they curate March’s “Voodoo Queen” theme!

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you still sign up today? No. If you sign up after the 21st of each month, you will receive the following month’s box, subscriptions ship shortly after this date.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $12.50 (that includes shipping), and I received 5 items, which is like paying $2.50 per item. I received three eyeshadows, glitter, and a lip gloss which added up to $28.10. I think that is an awesome value for such quality colors and performance!

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

This review was the first time I heard of Apocalyptic Beauty, and I am mermaid obsessed so I was bummed that I misses this bag. But I hopped on their website and found out they have an Overstock section that is specifically for any extras they have left over after sending out the boxes. I was able to get two of the pigments and the glitter! They also sell grab bags of past subscription items. The bags are random, but they say they try to prevent duplicates. So I ordered one, desperately hoping for the lippie and/or the other pigment. I even wrote a little note in the order comments that I’d heard about them here and was sad to miss the bag but excited to get some of the items. I won’t ask for special treatment, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to mention it and hope maybe they would notice and include a surprise. I also ordered a couple other things and of course I subscribed for future boxes!

I just got my order, and I got the mermaid lip gloss!!! I know it could have been random, but I’m choosing to believe they did it on purpose because they also included a couple of the little seashell shaped candies like in the review pics. I am in love!

Wear it all anyway! Screw “age-appropriate” makeup. Can’t get away with it at work? Play twice as hard on the weekends!

I absolutely adore the colors this month, but I would have struggled on what to do with everything, especially the glitter!

I always thought I would use it as a nail topper if I got this box.

Haha, thank you! I usually just start with whatever color is calling to me, and I never know what to do with glitter, lol. I usually google ideas and go with the flow 😂
