California Found January 2019 Review

California Found Box January 2019 - Booklet Top

Instead of a booklet or pamphlet, California Found sends these really cool info cards for each product. They are very nice quality and informative. It also points out that they donate 10% of their profit every month to a charitable cause, and this month the donation went to the American Diabetes Association. The card additionally talks about their Golden Ticket contest – if you find one in your sizzle, you get a free box for yourself or a friend!

The Rolo Choker by Katie Dean Jewelry – Retail Value $50

Look at how pretty this necklace is! It’s gold filled, too! It is about 12″ long with a 4 extender chain. I don’t know if I have ever seen a plain gold chain as a choker before, it is really cool looking! The jeweler, Katie Dean, is based out of Los Angeles.

Three Greeting Card Collection by Saltwater & Feathers – Listed Value $15

California Found has sent greeting cards from artist Caroline Winneguth of Saltwater & Feathers before, and I absolutely love her style! I have to admit I don’t really know when I will use three romantic love cards, one for Valentine’s Day seems like plenty, but they are totally cute! The cards are also printed on recycled paper. S&F is based in Carpinteria, California.

Crookie Cake Bam by Cake Bams – Listed Value $3 (buy a dozen for $29.95)

Salt In The Dark Cake Bam by Cake Bams – Listed Value $3 (buy a dozen for $29.95)

Birthday Erry Day Cake Bam by Cake Bams – Listed Value $3 (buy a dozen for $29.95)

Well, this is different! These are rice cakes with a soft candy topping in different flavors. It’s kind of like a thick, hard frosting I guess? The topping kind of has the consistency of fudge. The rice cakes underneath are absolutely plain. My kids liked them! I tried them each also, but they weren’t for me, which is actually good news, haha. And in fact, they weren’t meant for me! Founder Jenn Stoner actually created this as a gluten-free alternative to birthday treats for her gluten-sensitive child, and it just took off from there! Cake Bams is also based out of Los Angeles.

Mini Body Bar Duo in Ginger Spice & Grapefruit and Lotus & Winter Jasmine by No Tox Life – Listed Value $12

I am always thrilled to see delicious smelling luxury soaps in a subscription box. The smell is like a 30-second daily gift to yourself. These little soaps had my whole box smelling amazing! I particularly love the ginger and grapefruit soap. They both lather well, too. No Tox Life was founded by a mother and daughter in Glassell Park, Los Angeles, and their mission is to offer vegan and zero waste bath products.

60″ Scarf by Bella Mia Mama & Baby – Listed Value $20

This is easily the softest scarf I have ever owned! The packaging says “cuddle me,” and I totally could see myself doing that. It is so soft and thick! It’s very warm, too. Plus it looks great on! I wish I knew what it is made of, but Bella Mia’s Etsy shop is completely sold out. Founder Angela Elam got started with Bella Mia after her first baby was born, and she started creating ridiculously soft baby accessories. They are based out of Thousand Oaks, California.

The Verdict: California Found has become one of my favorite subscription boxes! This month was another great one! I love the scarf this month, and I’m so happy that they always include jewelry. The value of everything adds up to $106, which is well over the promised value of $90, and the box costs only $49, including free shipping!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the February box. From California Found:

If you subscribe on or before the 30th of the month, you will receive that month’s box. If you subscribe after the 30th, your subscription will begin with the next month’s shipment. If we are sold out of boxes the month you subscribe, you will be notified and your subscription will begin the following month

  1. You can buy as a one time buy for December and January! Can’t wait for mine to come!

  2. On this incredibly rare occasion we actually have a few of this box in inventory. Use the MSA link and click gifts. 🧡🧡

  3. I love opening this box each month. I like the variety of products and the quality is impeccable. I think the retail values are on point and not overpriced. I often see well made artisan products for much more at farmers markets and local shops. The value of the box is very good considering all the items received.

  4. I’m the descriptions you say ships to the US for $7.95 but nI the verdict section you said the price includes free shipping.

  5. OMG Anna, the Katie Dean Jewelry Rolo Choker looks so beautiful on you! I’ve also been doubling it as a bracelet – super pretty that way too! Thanks for the review! Bella Mia Mama & Baby is in the process of revamping their site. I’ll post when it’s fully re-populated. The Cake Bams may grow on you. The 90 calorie dark chocolate and sea salt … mmmmm. Totally worth it. xx

  6. I think those cards could be good for weddings too.

  7. Wow! What a lot of money for not a lot of anything. $3. rice cakes with hard frosting, cards, a scarf and a necklace that looks like something you get out of a gumball machine.

  8. Overpriced stuff, definitely not worth it, you are just paying extra for stuff because it’s made in California.

  9. Looks like a great box!!

  10. The box is no longer free shipping for new subscribers. Shipping is $7.95.

    • That’s insane I hate paying shipping on boxes.
