Yogi Surprise January 2019 Review
Here is the info sheet for this monthβs box. This months theme is βNew Beginnings.β
Each month you also receive a yoga sequence card. This is a small touch that I really adore.
FlowerMill Vitamin C Serum, 1 oz β Retail Value $75
Wow, this is one pricy serum coming in at $75 per one ounce (for reference, the Sunday Riley CEO Vitamin C Serum is $85 for 1 oz). To be honest, I don’t think it is worth the price. In terms of ingredients, the first one is coconut oil, which can clog your pores due to its comedogenic nature. It also uses essential oils as its active ingredients rather than proven Vitamin C derivatives like L-Ascorbic Acid or ascorbic palmitate. I did find some articles online that said that said lemon, lavender, and bergamot essential oils (essential oils in this serum) can help lighten skin, but there is also a lot of science-backed information available that talks about how essential oils can irritate and damage your skin. Ultimately, this isnβt the Vitamin C serum for me, but your mileage may vary.
Andalou Naturals CannaCell Cleansing Foam, 5.5 oz β Retail Value $12.99
Cannabis is the hip new skincare trend, and I actually am on board with it due to its ability to calm and soothe redness and sensitivity. This is made with hemp seed oil, hemp cell culture extract, Vitamin E, and aloe leaf juice to nourish your skin. It foamed up beautifully and was gentle on my face while still effectively cleansing my skin.
Andalou Naturals Kukui Cocoa Body Butter, 1.7 oz β Retail Value $1.99
This body butter smells like natural cocoa butter and it is incredibly hydrating. Rubbing this into my legs after a nice shower was a very soothing experience for my skin, and I will happily use all of this up.
Soothe by Apana Β Foot Massager
Look, this little football roller thing is a lime-sized ball of absolute heaven. This immediately helps to release foot tension, and even if you don’t feel like your feet are tense rolling them over this massager is going to improve your life significantly. This has a sturdy composition, too, so I don’t have to worry about it collapsing if I accidentally put my entire body weight into this amazing device. I couldn’t find this exact product online, but I strongly recommend checking out similar ones and purchasing one for yourself. It may be the greatest thing I never knew I needed.
Manduka Headbands, 12 pack β Buy a pack of 18 headbands for $72 (found here for $54)
This isn’t my first set of Manduka headbands so I am now the proud owner of 24 of these bad boys. These are great for keeping my hair out my face when I am doing a mask, but they definitely don’t have the staying power to not slide off my head if I was doing yoga.
Rukhi 100% Organic Ayurvedic Teas, 3 sachets β Buy a box of 15 sachets for $9.99 here
We received a sachet in amla, fenugreek, and turmeric ginger. Rukhi teas are 100% organic, and each tea serves a specific purpose that aims to help your body reach balance through ayurvedic practices. I like keeping individual tea sachets like these in my purse so I can always have a tasty cup when I am out and about (the tea at the coffee shop in the Law Center is severely lacking).
GoodwipesΒ Body Wipes β Buy a box of 10 body wipes for $9.99
GoodwipesΒ Below The Belt Wipes β Buy a box of 30 body wipes for $7.99
I am going to immediately point out that I am not impressed that Goodwipes markets their cedar below the belt wipes for men- even going as far as to describe it as having “soothing aloe and moisturizing Vitamin E with mild but Manly cedar scent.” Apparently, cedar is a men’s only scent and lavender is only for women? I am personally in the camp of I don’t want fragrances in sensitive areas, but I am happy to hang on to the body wipe to freshen up with after a long flight or car ride.
Tiger Balm Patch β Buy a box of 5 patches for $8.79
This is made with eucalyptus oil, mentha oil, and capsicum extract (among other things) to provide temporary pain relief. I donβt really deal with a lot of chronic pain, but I bet this would feel heavenly on some sore muscles after a good workout.
The Verdict:Β Yogi SurpriseΒ is one of my favorite subscription boxes to receive every month, but this month fell a little flat for me. I donβt think the tea, tiger balm, or good wipes should have been listed on the info sheet, as they were more of a bonus than an actual item. That, combined with the disappointing ingredients list on the Vitamin C serum, means this wasnβt my favorite. That being said, I do love the Anadolu naturals products that were included, and that foot massager is literally a ball of heaven. Yogi Surprise promises a value of $85 each month, and they definitely reached that considering the value of the serum is $75. I am excited to see the February box, especially since it is coming with a Rose Quartz Gua Sha!

Third time is a charm, I hope. This is my 3rd try at posting a comment on this box, but it has yet to appear. This box was a definite winner for me. I am a long-time subscriber of both the Yogi Surprise regular box and jewelry box. I like this box very much. Andalou is a quality brand, and I was first introduced to the Flower Mill line by my Pearlesque box. Flower Mill is an excellent, natural line of products. I love the serum, and it smells heavenly. Since I do yoga and hike a lot, I appreciated the massage ball and the Tiger Balm patch, which I didn’t know existed. I also loved the tea. I’d much rather have tea or chocolate instead of an energy bar. Overall, great box! π
Second posting — my first one from yesterday never appeared. I can’t agree. I loved this box! So happy with every item. I do yoga and hike so I loved the patch (new to me) and massage ball. Flower Mill is a high-quality, natural line that I was first introduced to by my Pearlesque box so I am grateful for the serum, which smells wonderful. Andalou is also a lovely line of products. Just my personal two-cents. π
Sorry, can’t say I agree with you, Jessica. I loved and can use everything. I thought it was one of their best boxes. All new and some surprises too. Flower Mill is a unique, quality brand that I experienced through my Pearlesque box so I’m grateful to now get the serum. I so enjoyed the teas too. I also am happy for the massage ball and back patch, which I can really use with all the yoga and hiking I do.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Emmy Lou! I agree the massage ball is amazing. Not everyone will share the same opinion about everything, and I am happy this box was such a success for you!
I have a similar ball for my tight foot arch- after a tough work-out itβs incredibly effective! Also works on my sore palms after planks etc….
A fresh set of headbands is calling my name. I could never wash my face without one!
