TokiBox January 2019 Review

Tokibox January 2019 - card Tokibox January 2019 - card

TokiBox includes a card which normally describes a monthly theme. On the reverse is a list of what's included with the retail values. I especially love the message on this card: "be kind to all kinds."

Tokibox January 2019 - brownie Tokibox January 2019 - brownie Tokibox January 2019 - brownie

Rule Breaker Snacks, Deep Chocolate Brownie — Listed Value $3.99 (buy a 4-pack for $14.99)

Made in Brooklyn by a certified health coach with a sweet tooth, this chocolate brownie is as delicious as it claims to be. As a vegan, I'm pretty sure my insides are now 80% made up of chickpeas. (Can any of you relate?) Chickpeas happen to be the main ingredient in these sweet treats, but you would never guess it. They are nut-free, gluten-free, and 100% plant-based, but somehow just as lush and satisfying as a traditional brownie. Any dessert that is not overly sweet or artificial-tasting and made from ingredients I can pronounce always gets a thumbs-up in my book!

Tokibox January 2019 - latte mix Tokibox January 2019 - latte mix

Copper Cup, Supergreens Latte Mix, single serving — Retail Value $2.50 (buy a 12-pack for $29.99)

I'm more of a coffee gal than anything, but I'm always game to try something new. I mixed this with half water/half cashew milk. The result was pleasant enough, but it had a bit of a "salad-y" taste to me that I don't really love in a hot drink. With all the good stuff packed inside, I was happy to finish the mug off, however, I don't imagine this will be replacing my coffee anytime soon.

Tokibox January 2019 - baobab mix Tokibox January 2019 - baobab mix Tokibox January 2019 - baobab mix

Baobest, Baobab Superfruit Powder, 7oz — Retail Value $13.99

I'll admit it; I've never heard of Baobab. According to the internet, it is the fruit of Africa's 'Tree of Life' and the only fruit in the world that dries naturally on the branch. Most importantly, at least in the context of this product, baobab is considered to be one of the most nutrient dense fruits on earth. On its own, it has a bit of sweetness so I tried adding a heaping scoop to the Supergreens Latte (see above) to make it a bit more to my taste. It didn't have the impact I'd hoped, but I think it would be a really nice addition to smoothies, oatmeal, and/or baked goods as suggested on the package.

Tokibox January 2019 - peel off mask Tokibox January 2019 - peel off mask Tokibox January 2019 - peel off mask Tokibox January 2019 - peel off mask

Raeka Peel Off Mask in Turmeric Cucumber, 15ml — Listed Value $10 (buy a 75ml bottle for $29.50)

Raeka Peel Off Mask in Turmeric Orange, 15ml — Listed Value $10 (buy a 75ml bottle for $29.50)

I enjoy face masks. Although I can't ever really report noticeable benefits, I appreciate the excuse for a few moments of relaxation. I really enjoy peel-off masks, because after the zen I get to play! Am I the only one who finds it super satisfying when you can get a whole mask off in one piece?! These masks would require a pretty thick application to achieve a perfect removal, but I liked them just the same for their heavenly scents! Both are cooling and made my skin feel soft. I wish they were alcohol-free, but not having parabens, sulfates, or synthetic fragrances go a long way in my book.

Revive Naturals, Minimize Me Moisturizer, 2oz —Retail Value $20.00

I wasn't sure from the label what was being "minimized," but the Revive Naturals site indicates that this moisturizer contains gentle AHAs to exfoliate and minimize the size of pores in addition to helping with aging, dark spots, dull-looking skin, and dry skin. I may have received a damaged pump because the lotion didn't want to come out. I also don't love the fragrance of this product. Like, at all. However, if it can do all of the amazing things it claims I will gladly smother this all over my face and sleep myself to a flawless complexion!

Tokibox January 2019 - lip scrub Tokibox January 2019 - lip scrub Tokibox January 2019 - lip scrub Tokibox January 2019 - lip scrub

Roses N Rose Smooches Lip Scrub, .25oz —Retail Value $8.50

My lips don't tend to get too dry, so I don't often reach for a lip scrub. I actually tested this one out sitting right in front of my computer and was pleasantly surprised! It's not at all goopy, but not too flakey either. In other words, it has a really nice consistency. Major bonus points for being edible and saving me a trip to the sink to rinse off. I think I'll keep this right here at my desk and treat my lips to a mid-day spa service whenever the mood strikes!

The Verdict: The products in this month's Tokibox were not bad, but they were not really up my alley for the most part. My favorite item was the chickpea brownie--pure heaven! Using a combo of retail values and list prices where retail values weren't available, the contents of this box add up to an estimated total of $68.98. I think this month's box is a good value for $34.95, including free shipping.

To Wrap Up:
