Nosejoy December 2018 "Holiday Cheers!" Review

Nosejoy usually sends a welcome card with a note from the sub's curator and an info slip that gives a little description of each item in your box. Sometimes there are even subscriber discount codes, and this month's is for 15% off of your order at Benjamin Soap Co., which is a recurring brand featured in this box, and I've loved everything I've tried of theirs. December's theme is booze-inspired, but in a festive and fancy cocktail type of way, and of course not involving actual alcohol—just great smells!

Paddywax Cranberry + Rosé Mercury Prism Candle, 2.5 oz — Retail Value $19.00; Listed Price $12.00

I've always loved mercury glass—actually, the florist for our wedding helped us find all sorts of awesome mismatched mercury glass candle holders to add to our centerpieces, so that look has a special place in my heart. Anyway, this small candle looks both fun and classy in its hexagonal mercury glass jar, which has a rosy tint. Its cranberry + rose scent is light and berry-ish—lovely for the holidays but honestly also good for any other time of year. This scent went on sale, then sold out, but there are other scents available at a reduced price on the Paddywax website!

Its tag has a "to/from" indication on the back, which makes this a great piece for holiday gifting, but if you're like me and received your Nosejoy box just a day or two before Christmas, when all your shopping was already taken care of, you might join me in saving this guy for another occasion. My sister-in-law is hosting us for New Years, so maybe that'll be the one!

Soap & Paper Orange Bitter Pomegranate Petite Hand Cream, 1 oz — Retail Value $12.00

This is the time of year when I like to keep a small tube or jar of hand cream in every purse and in my car so that I don't have to go hunting when the dryness gets me good. I have scattered a few tubes from previous Nosejoy boxes around my life, and I'm happy to add this one to the mix.

I love that in addition to having pretty packaging, this hand cream was made in the USA without parabens, phthalates, or petrochemicals, and it wasn't tested on animals. Always things I look for in my bath, body, and beauty products!

As with the candle, there are "to/from" boxes on the side for gifting. It's such a nice touch, though I would probably wrap this up were I to give it to someone, covering that part up.

Who else finds it SO satisfying to poke open the metal seal on items like this? I gave my husband the honors of opening this one up. 🙂 The scent of this hand cream is subtly fruity—I can't quite detect the clove in there, but I will say, was this the scent of a drink, I would very much look forward to imbibing! Its consistency is thin enough that it's easy to spread but thick enough that it doesn't disappear as soon as you rub it in. My hands feel moisturized but not greasy. Two thumbs up.

Benjamin Soap Co. Coffee Stout Bar, 4 oz — Listed Value $8.00

I always have a hard time deciding whether to keep or gift the Benjamin Soap Co. products I receive from Nosejoy. I love everything from their understated packaging to their simple ingredients list, to their small batch creation process—all features that make me proud to gift their products, but also ones that make it feel like such a treat for myself when I keep them.

This soap was made in collaboration with Zilker Brewing Co., using their coffee stout beer (made with Little City Coffee).

It has such a unique scent to it! The coffee and stout aromas are very present, which isn't what you'd normally expect from soap, but is a really cool experience. I also find the deep brown color of the soap very satisfying. I hope one day I can try the beer that I've bathed in!

Idea Chic Mulling Spices Sachet — Retail Value $4.00

I've always romanticized the idea of making mulled wine (or cider, but I'm more of a wine gal—cider tends to be too sweet for me), but never had the gusto to gather the ingredients. So, imagine my joy when I found this pre-mixed package in my Nosejoy box this month! Oh, it'll just make for the most glorious fireside sipping imaginable.

And, so cutely packaged, do you agree?

Here's what the blend looks like. I'm waiting to try it until we're together at my sister-in-law's and in a celebratory mood. But, in the meantime, I'm going to smell this pouch every day—it just smells so good!

hydraAROMATHERAPY Hangover Buster Bathtub Tea — Retail Value $5.25

This is such a clever idea: a tea bag for the bathtub! The pouch is filled with all sorts of herbs like lavender, fennel seeds, and multiple types of citrus. The last herbal bath I took was in the week following having my baby, and as incredibly soothing as it was, it was a total mess. It was worth it to be pampered at that time (my doula cleaned up, bless her soul), but this version makes more sense for day-to-day. I especially love that the plastic envelope it comes in is made from corn and is compostable. The world needs more of that!

Verdict: What a fun month for Nosejoy! The theme was really original and the items used to match it are delightful. My favorite is a tie between the mulling spices and the mercury glass candle, but there wasn't a single item I didn't enjoy this month. As always, most of these products are made in the USA and some have gone an extra step with their eco-friendly, clean, and/or altruistic efforts. Value-wise, this month's items exceeded the cost of the box by adding up to $41.25 (using the list price for the candle), while the box costs $34.95 with free shipping. I'm happy with that value!

The candle smells amazing! As always, Nosejoy knocked it out of the park with another great theme and still manages to come up with new and unusual scented items, not just the typical bathbombs etc.
