Monthly Mystery Box by Jamminbutter December 2018 Box Review
Typically, there is an insert explaining the special item that 1 lucky subscriber will get – but this month I noticed that there was nothing included in the box except for the items. No additional inserts of any type were included.
This is the 2nd month in a row that I received a wall calendar, but I do like this one better. This 12” x 24” (when opened) wall calendar runs from August 2018 through December 2019. You can find it on sale at most retailers, due to about a third of it now being obsolete. Each month features large date boxes as well as an inspirational motto. There are a few sheets of stickers to help customize and call out your goals, achievements, and special events. This is a usable item, and I’ll probably display it in my kitchen this year!
Igloo YEW Stuff Kids Water Bottle – LED Light Up Design, 22oz – Retail Value $17.49
So, this is a cool water bottle – I just wish I would have received a print other than “alien” … what I love most, is that this 22 oz. bottle features a spring-loaded push-button lid and a silicone gasket to help prevent leaks. This bottle lights up in a variety of LED colors and has a 30-minute auto shut off feature (great for me, as I have a toddler who NEVER turns things off). I also prefer that my water bottles are BPA-free, which this is, and I really like that it’s made from durable and shatter-resistant plastic. The light is powered by AAA batteries (included) that are supposed to last up to 40 hours.
Old Dutch Nickel-Lined Antique Copper Hammered Moscow Mule Mug, 16 Oz. – Retail Value $9.64
This solid copper mug features an antique hammered copper finish and is nickel lined with a cast brass handle. Copper is so in style right now – I think I might even use this as a pencil holder on my desk.
Cat in Space with Goldfish 22 oz Tumbler (Set of 2)
I couldn’t drum up this exact item on a reputable site, but if you google “Cat in Space with Goldfish” you will find some listed on resale sites like eBay. I didn’t realize that this was a thing – but this image comes in almost everything you can imagine (shirts, pencil cases, etc.). These tumblers are OK – not really my style, but durable plastic with a goofy image that I know my kid will like and are the type of cup that I wouldn’t mind if he lost, broke, or rinsed out a paintbrush in.
MyStyle Peel + Stick Message Board – Estimated Value $9.99? (Similar item here)
So, this is a clever item for a dorm room, office, or apartment. I received a set of 2 11.25″ round silver “whiteboard” stickers and a dry erase pen, complete with a little adhesive to keep it handy. As you can see, I attached it to one of my cabinet doors in my home office. I’m not sure if it’ll do any damage coming off, but I think this is an OK item, that most people could use. I’d just be careful to place it somewhere that I could repaint, or that I wasn’t concerned with being blemish-free if you did choose to remove.
I apologize, I couldn’t get the best photo of this hoodie, but you can see it professionally photographed by Hanes in the link above. This hoodie is large on me – I’m not sure if it’s a women’s or a men’s – but I don’t personally think that this hoodie, which would fit my husband, is a color he would wear. It’s 80% cotton and 20% polyester, and super soft. Although the write up says that it’s “no shrink” treated – I am going to try my best to shrink it into something that I can wear on a day where I’m bumming around and want to feel cozy.
Scientific Explorer Gross Glow Bouncers – Retail Value $10.89
This was a fun, random thing to review this month. Basically, you snap together the little monster mold (2 are included), you fill them with the little plastic particles, and then soak in water for a few minutes. Next, you take them out of the water, let them sit in the mold for about 10 minutes, and then open them to reveal bouncy monsters. Totally fun for little kids! I will say, that I did this about a week ago, and now my monsters are rock hard and no longer bounce. I also want to point out all of the warnings on the bag – definitely not good to leave around if you have pets, or if you have little kids that put things in their mouths. I received 8 colored packets, 3 of which glow in the dark!
The Verdict: Again, this box delivered a value well beyond the cost, and was filled with useable, albeit eclectic items. I don’t think that any one of these items is something that I would specifically go out and purchase, but I can also say that all these items are useful to almost anyone (I mean, who can’t use a cup?) I was surprised at the high retail value of the sweatshirt, was disappointed that the calendar was 6 months out of date, and I thought the cat cups were a bit odd. I received 7 items for $24.99 – making each item break down to around $3.57. I think that’s pretty good in the value department!
