Lillypost Mixed Book Box Review – January 2019
Lillypost is a monthly children’s book subscription! They offer three subscription options: The Picture Book Box, which includes 3 books for ages 4-7, The Board Book Box, which includes 3 books for ages 0-3, and the Mixed Book Box, which includes 1 board book and 2 picture books for all ages. From Lillypost:
For every box that is purchased, Lillypost will be donating one book to a child in need through various literacy-based charities.
This review is of the Mixed Book box for $19.99 a month. This option includes both board books and picture books for families with children in both age ranges.
You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality, and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Lillypost January 2019 Review
Lillypost included this little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley the Fox into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is The Rainforest, and I love that they include some fun facts too!
This card encourages your littles to enter the coloring contest, even if you’ve won before!
Babies Love Things That Go by Martina Hogan – Retail Value $7.99 (I linked to the same book, although the cover art is different!)
This is a sweet little book that will provide lots of tactile fun for baby. The rounded edges and the large flaps will help engage baby as you read. The colors are bright and visually appealing, too.
The images in this book are also really cute and the small size is great to keep baby entertained while you are out or while they are in their car seat.
This is a book about Bear and his very special stuffed friend, Ursa. Bear likes to keep his house nice and tidy and spends a lot of time keeping it clean. One day Bear notices a spiderweb and starts to worry about this spider with many legs and many webs that has found its way into his house. He turns the whole place upside down looking for it and poor Ursa ends up damaged in the chaos. Soon, Bear learns that having a spider around might not be so bad after all. This was a cute, sweet story with a lot of fun illustrations of a very unique spider that we enjoyed looking at.
This book is so good! As a former elementary teacher, I wish that I had this book for my classroom and think this would be such a great book to read to Kindergartners or even some older grades! Firstly, the black and white illustrations with the fun pops of red are so interesting and the way they illustrate the words makes them so dynamic and fun. Secondly, the lesson in this book is one that everyone could benefit from hearing and it breaks this message down in such a simple, relatable way.
The illustrations are really beautiful and help to drive home the point that words are so powerful and can affect those around you. They talk about how words can describe things, how they can give someone else strength and most of all that they have the power to make someone else feel a certain way. It was the perfect read for my four-year-old to teach her to think about how the things we do affect others and to think about their feelings and show compassion for them.
Verdict: I really loved the books that we received in our Lillypost box this month. Words and Your Heart was clearly my favorite due to its beautiful artwork and positive message, but the other books were really cute as well. Although Lillypost doesn’t know the ages of my kids, I felt that there was a book for each of them with the varying levels of complexity in each story. The cost of the box was $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping), and the total retail value of the books came to $42.97, which is a great value for this collection of books.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the February box.

- Babies Love Things That Go: $4.63
