KiwiCo. has been one of my favorite subscription companies for years now due to their outstanding kid subscriptions such as Kiwi CrateDoodle Crate, and Tinker Crate, and my kids absolutely love their projects! In addition to their subscriptions, KiwiCo. has several standalone projects available for purchase in their online store.

They recently sent me their Science & Art Pack, which is a trio of amazing arts and STEM-based electronics projects for children ages 9 and up!

Please note that the full Science & Art Pack includes three projects. This review is of only one of those projects, Chalkboard & Glow Slime.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

This is our instruction manual that was included in the box.

Here's a peek at some of the instructions. They are illustrated and easy to follow.

These are the supplies that were included. The only thing we needed to supply from home was water.

My son's first step was to make two mixtures, a glue and water mixture, and a borax and water mixture.

His next step was to add the chalkboard paint to the glue mixture.

From there, he had to pipette small amounts of the borax into the glue mixture and stir. It makes a really sticky mess for a while until it is just the right consistency - slime!

Next, he drew some designs on the slime with the chalk markers. The slime was a little wetter than I think it needed to be in order to get the vibrant designs shown in the booklet.

Then he stretched and played with the slime to alter the shape of the design. Fun! Kids this age (10) are really into slime.

KiwiCo. included some little containers to keep the slime fresh while not in use. How thoughtful!

Next, my son made the glow-in-the-dark slime. The process was essentially the same. This is the glue mixture. He added glow powder to the mix.

Then he added borax mixture and stirred with the wooden stick.

He eventually got a good slimy consistency. This one was a little drier than the chalkboard slime.

Here it is glowing in the dark. It's so cool!

Verdict: We love everything from KiwiCo, and this project was a special treat for us! My son really enjoyed doing this project, and he loves playing with the slime. Slime is a serious trend with the 8-11 set these days! And the project really does a great job merging art and science! For a very reasonable price, too! This project was one of three in a $75 gift set. I would say $25 for an hour of learning and creating something special is definitely a bargain!

What a nice review! I think I may actually purchase this…just the standalone kit. Buying the larger pack comes out to be more expensive than purchasing the 3 kits individually.
Is there anything special that is featured in the bigger all-in-one box that you can’t get when buying the kits separately?
