We also received a sticker.

Fortune Cookie Soap “You Were Born To Sparkle” January 2019 - Face Mask

Always Sparkle Enzyme Face Mask, Full-Size!

This face mask is made with fruit enzymes to gently exfoliate your skin, and I am loving that the first ingredient on this mask is soothing aloe to try and prevent irritation. This has mica in it for a very subtle sparkle that is apparent in bright light when you wear it, which is really fun. While I am not stoked that alcohol is listed in the ingredients list, it is near the bottom (so it isn’t a main ingredient), and the rest of the ingredients are otherwise stellar so it shouldn’t cause issues the way alcohol will if it is a more prominent ingredient. This mask has a subtle scent of sparkling champagne and fresh honey crisp apples, and it was enjoyable.

Fortune Cookie Soap “You Were Born To Sparkle” January 2019 - Lip Balm

Shine Bright Shimmer Lip Balm – Estimated Value $3.49 (based on other lip balms available here)

This is a sheer lip balm that was hydrating, and even though shimmer is in the name I didn’t really notice any shimmer on my lips. The flavor was tropical prickly pear and coconut (delicious!), and this is a great lip balm when you're rocking a more natural look.

Fortune Cookie Soap “You Were Born To Sparkle” January 2019 - Oil 1 Fortune Cookie Soap “You Were Born To Sparkle” January 2019 - Oil 2

Dim All The Lights Mini Headache Oil, 0.5 oz

I have been dealing with migraines more frequently than normal over the past few months, so finding this headache oil was a delightful surprise. This is an FCS signature essential oil blend, but it definitely has calming and soothing lavender if those lavender buds in the bottle are any indication! This small size is perfect for throwing in my purse, and I think it would actually fit in the change pocket on my wallet so I can have this with me wherever I am- we all know that headaches never come when you’re at home and can dim the lights and cuddle with an ice pack and your cat.

Fortune Cookie Soap “You Were Born To Sparkle” January 2019 - Scrub 1

Fortune Cookie Soap “You Were Born To Sparkle” January 2019 - Scrub 2

Afterparty Walnut Body Scrub, 1 oz

This walnut body scrub is the perfect size to let you fall in love with it and want more- the ground walnut shells aren’t too abrasive while still being effective, and it smells delicious thanks to the golden amber, maple, and tonka (side note: what is tonka?). Plus, this has a really lovely texture.

The Verdict: I loved my first box of the new subscription model from FCS! The affordable price + free shipping make this more available to people who want to try it, and I think it is fun to get a full-size item plus other goodies. Each month you get a $10 off $25 purchase discount code, and I think I may use that to grab the full-size of that body scrub.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you still sign up today? No. If you sign up today your first box will be the March box.

From Fortune Cookie Soap:

The next month’s category will be revealed on the 10th of each month. If you don’t fancy it, simply log into your FCS account and skip it. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $16.95 + free shipping, which means you are paying $4.24 per item.

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I really liked the selection of products and scents in this monthly box. Perfect amount to test out new items. I enjoyed each one but the headache oil was my favorite.

Excuse me I meant Jan 31st I signed up and was billed then billed again the 10th.

Hmm I signed up on Jan 27th was billed of course but now feb 10th billed again. Both payments went through but status is unfulfilled for both orders? Does that mean I’m getting 2 February boxes? Or? 😑

I called customer service because I was confused about billing. They told me they bill a month ahead, so they know how many boxes to make. So, I was billed for both December and January before I got my first box in January. The January billing was actually for the Feb. box. It seems strange, but they only make enough product for the people who have actually paid for the box. Does that make sense?

Yes thank you. I had to reread their site a few times to get it lol. It’s the first time I’ve been billed that way. I got my feb box and really love it. 🤗

I didn’t notice any shimmer in the balm either, AT FIRST, but the second time I used it, I was standing in direct sunlight and I definitely saw the shimmer. It’s sort of a (slightly) metallic, pinky shimmer. It’s actually gorgeous in the right light.
I also have bad migraines, that have been getting worse over the last few months. The first thing I did when I got my box (which, because of a glitch in FCS system, I only received today, the 28th of the month), was grab that headache oil and start rubbing it on my temples. Unfortunately I got it a little too close to my eye (mucous membrane, watch out!) and it was a bit intense for a few minutes. But once it settled down, I found the oil to be fairly helpful in soothing my headache. Overall, I think the box is….GREAT!!!

I’m thinking about signing up for this subscription…. I’m not excited about the alcohol in the face mask…

Chelsea

Alcohol is the second ingredient in the mask 🙁

Oh snap, you’re right. I saw alcohol on the bottom of the list and it didn’t even register that “organic alcohol” was at the top. What a bummer!

Use of tonka bean in perfumery, here:

Tonka is usually referred to as tonka bean, but it’s not an edible bean. See wiki for more:
“Tonka bean oil is extracted from the seed of Dipteryx odorata. The oil is composed primarily of coumarin, which is used to flavor tobacco. It is neither a pressed oil, nor an essential oil, but was traditionally obtained by soaking the large, single tonka bean seed in rum or other alcohol for 24 hours, after which crystals of coumarin appear on the outside of the seed, and are then collected. “

I love the new subscription plan. I signed up for the quarterly. Although once I get a handle on my product overload, i may need the monthly. Of course I doubt I’ll ever get the product overload in control.
