CHC Vintage December 2018 Review
When you sign up you fill out a customer style survey where you answer questions about your personal style so each subscriber gets a dress that's customized just for them. Let's see what I received this month!
I love that they send a handwritten note to go along with your dress. The note tells us that this is a piece by Max Studio from the 1990's and they also give a few styling suggestions which I always appreciate!

Look at the shine in this luxurious black velvet! This dress really screams 90's to me with the dark velvet, empire waist, and that incredibly open, square neckline. While I think the ruffles at the hem and sleeves make it feel romantic, I really got a grunge vibe and tried my best to channel that by adding a choker and some dark brown matte lipstick reminiscent of my favorite shade that I used to borrow from my cool older cousin when I was younger...in the actual 90's. I didn't have any fun shoes to work with, but I figured those black booties were okay since they didn't take too much away from the actual look. This dress fit me a little tighter in the waist, but I'm thinking that might be from that extra holiday love I gave my body in the form of a gazillion cookies. Overall, it was super comfortable and easy to wear and I really loved the neckline. I have no idea why, but this dress makes me think of one of my favorite 90's movies, 10 Things I Hate About You, and for that reason, it makes me pretty happy to wear it.
Here is a closeup of that subtle little ruffle at the hemline. I wanted to take more pictures of this dress for you, but the light reflected off of this velvet so much that none of them really came out.
Verdict: I'm really loving this month's selection by CHC Vintage. It felt totally 90's to me and definitely had me feeling nostalgic for that time. I love that this dress is actually something I could wear now since the velvet is so on-trend. It suits my style and my tastes perfectly, but one thing I love about this company is that even if it didn't suit my style, their customer service is so great that I know they'd happily find me a replacement! If you saw the dress I received last month, you know a lot of us weren't fans, but they quickly sent a replacement that was much more my style just because of your comments! This month might be my favorite dress and definitely worth the $39.99 cost of this subscription. What do you think? How would you style it?
