Snack Crate "Canada" Review

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Card Front

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Card Middle

This box always greets you with a colorful card and talks you through every snack to be found in the subscription (at all levels)! This month’s box theme is Canada. I’m quite a bit Canadian by heritage, so I’m excited to see these treats and what I can discover about through food about my dad’s homeland!

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Stickers

There’s also an awesome bonus in each box: stickers! The stickers are always a hoot, and this month, the Mountie (a member of the infamous Canadian Mounted Police) totally slayed me.

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Lollipop Front

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Lollipop Back

Maple Lollipop

Starting this box off strong with a super-sweet, super-Canadian treat! I’ve mentioned in the past that I don’t love chocolate as a rule, but when it comes to desserts, I loooove maple! I also typically don’t like lollipops (I guess I’m kind of picky!), but I LOVED this. It’s made from 100% pure maple syrup, but the maple flavor was actually a bit more on the subtle side, with smoky notes of caramelized sugar. It was also excellent stirred into my coffee!

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Ketchup Chips Pkg

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Ketchup Chips Plate

Old Dutch Ketchup Chips

Oh, ketchup chips, where have you been all my life? These were fantastic! I loved that they tasted both like ketchup and had a tomato-y flavor as well. I know that probably sounds like a contradiction in terms, but what I’m really saying is that these have a nice depth of flavor. They were fantastic with a roast beef sammy, and I could see them also being a killer nighttime snack.

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Lays Pkg

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Lays Plate

Lay’s Ruffles All Dressed Chips

Snack Crate, you just get me! My favorite cut of chips is the ruffled kind - they’re a hugely satisfying crunch, and I like them so much better than plain. These li’l delights were interesting; they’re a combo of ketchup, salt and vinegar, and barbecue flavors. I thought the vinegar came through the most strongly, which makes sense because vinegar is an ingredient in both ketchup and barbecue too. My husband loved them; he’s a vinegar fiend! It’s not my favorite flavor per se, but I can see exactly why these are such a cult hit.

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Peach Pkg

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Peach Plate

Fuzzy Peach

I’d never heard of these candies before, but they remind me very much of the peach rings I was obsessed with in my teen years! They were nice and soft, not too sticky, and I really liked the outside sugary texture, too.

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Mars Pkg

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Mars plate

Maple Mars

Oh, wow! If you’ve been with me on another snack journey, readers, you may remember that I’m not by default wild about candy bars, but this is a complete winner. This is obviously a Milky Way’s Canadian cousin, with a whole lot of maple flavor! It must be my Canadian blood, but I love maple, and while I’m told it can be overwhelming to some people, I can’t get enough! This was a chocolate, nougat, and caramel bar and I tasted maple in every single layer!

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Coffee Pkg

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Coffee Bite

Snack Crate Canada September 2018 - Coffee Plate

Coffee Crisp

This box is changing my mind about chocolate bars! This is like a latte and a Kit Kat had a beautiful, beautiful baby. Coffee is another flavor I love to see in desserts, and layers of coffee creme layered beautifully with the bar’s vanilla wafers. The milk chocolate in this was nice, too; I tasted a high cocoa content which leads me to believe it was a fairly high grade of quality.

VerdictOh, Canada, I loved all of your snacks! I should’ve realized this box would give my heart (and my tummy) a hug since my entire family on my dad’s side is from this wonderful nation. The Maple Mars and lollipop both made me so happy with their maple deliciousness, and I loved that there were two strong savory options this month. Even the peach candies were awesome since they were new to me.

This is literally all from the dollar store. Less than $5 CAD total… yet your company thinks they can charge $14 USD!?

Does that deal only work if you sign up for a box? It doesn’t take you anything special.

When I clicked on the link last night it said it expired last. I passed it up because I got the impression it was a 6 month sub. Not sure though, I didn’t hear back from Laine when I asked last night. I didn’t need it anyway, lol.

Laine, this $1.00 deal says that it is a month plan, but also says cancel any time. Do you know if you are locked in to 6 months upon accepting this?
