SlutBox by Amber Rose December 2018 Review

SlutBox comes with a zine every month which, in my opinion, is always the best part. For December, the theme is a clever "Ho Ho Ho". The zine is getting shorter, but that's okay by me because there is still some good content, just condensed.

It kicks off with a letter from MUVA, along with social media photos from SlutBox subscribers.

The next two spreads detail the items included.

Then there's Whoreoscopes...

An educational safe sex breakdown...

And it finishes up with 5 "Hoeliday" traditions you can start and the Slut of the Month.

There are also a couple of coupons this month from Wet Lubricant and Juicebox.

Satisfier Pro Penguin - Retail Value $49.95

As I live and breathe! An honest to goodness adult toy in SlutBox! I would have thought this would come in box number one, but I guess it took them a while. This handsome little penguin (complete with pink bow tie) happens to be a "suction" toy which uses air pulses to deliver pleasure to delicate areas! Just place that large opening on the places you want to feel somewhat intense sensations and this penguin will sort you out. There's just one button to get things moving but you can toggle through 11 different levels of intensities to find one that suits you. It starts off pretty slow and gradually gets more extreme, so I'm confident that newbies and experienced users can find a sweet spot. It is made of super soft medical-grade silicone to keep your body safe and even comes with a USB charging cord so you're never out of batteries. Personally, I really like toys like this and think they deliver what you're looking for rather quickly. Very happy to see this in SlutBox and it makes the whole box worth the cost in my opinion.

Wet Elite Femme Water Silicone Blended Lubricant, 1 oz. - Retail Value $7.35

Another month, another lube. This one comes in a more slender travel size than the one last month and is a blend of water and silicone based. The perfect item for a "slut" since you can pop this in your bag for encounters that happen to come up so you stay prepared. This feels nice 'n slippery and doesn't seem to have a scent at all which is preferred for me. Since both water and silicone is safe to use with condoms, this blend should be G2G while staying protected.

Melt Cosmetics Lipstick in bang! bang! - Retail Value $19.00

I've never heard of this brand, but I think their packaging is pretty cute and I really love this bright orange color. The stick glides on smoothly, but once it's on my lips, feels a bit cakey. The pigment is really nice, even though it does transfer easily to the skin or a cup. I'm not sure this is a $19.00 lipstick but the color really saved it and I'd definitely wear it in the summertime when I break out my brighter shades.

Measurable Difference Get the Look Kit in Smokey Eye - Retail Value $29.99 (found here for $14.99)

We've received other Measurable Difference products in SlutBox before, so it's no surprise to see it again. This palette has quite a bit of product included, but I'm not blown away by the quality. It does sort of come off as something you'd find for cheap at a closeout store. Maybe I'm just being a brat. It has 12 eyeshadows, 2 lip glosses, 2 blushes, 2 pencil eyeliners, 1 highlighter, 1 eyeshadow applicator/lip brush, and a blush brush. A lot of the eyeshadow shades are really similar and none of them are particularly pigmented and luxurious. The lip glosses are pretty much invisible on my hand and can be tricky to apply without a lip brush which is included, but not great. Personally, I find this to be more of a starter kit for someone just getting into makeup, but I don't think I'm expecting beauty-box quality palettes from this subscription anyhow.

The Sign Tribe Remove & Chill (aka Nailfix & Chill) Nail Polish Eraser Cream - Listed Retail Value $12.00

Hmmm- I wonder if they got sued by Netflix and had to change their name? The tube I received says "Nailfix & Chill", no doubt referring to the "Netflix & Chill" term but is now called "Remove & Chill". Either way, I was a little confused at first because I was all "why not just use regular liquid nail polish remover?". This one is acetone free which is a lot gentler on your nails and I suppose having a cream instead of a liquid has its benefits, like flying. Wait, is cream still counted in that scenario? Not sure, BUT they are indeed telling the truth when they say it smells really nice. That it does. Unfortunately for me, I exclusively get gel polish on my pointy acrylics so this is a no-go for me. It only works on regular polish. Whomp Whomp. I'll pass this on to a friend that can use it.

Palo Santo Wood Incense - Estimated Retail Value $1.33 (found here for $3.99 for a bundle of 3)

The $3.00 listed price seems a little high for a single palo santo stick since you can buy a bundle for a little more online, but I do appreciate the inclusion of this item because I simply love the smell. Simply light the end of this stick and let the smell cleanse your space and put you in a good mood. The booklet also mentions that it repels insects, so it's great for warmer weather outdoor parties to keep the bugs at bay.

Verdict: While I didn't love all of the items in this month's SlutBox, I think the adult toy makes it totally worth it, and the lipstick and lube will get used as well. I wish we would've gotten a few more pieces of palo santo to make it more worthy of an item, and the nail polish remover and makeup palette were a bit of a miss for me. Overall, I'm glad to see SlutBox include an obvious hero item for December. Hopefully, next year will be even better now that they've gained some momentum.

I received my January box today and it’s such a letdown! (They did honor my Penguin code even though it was a re-sub- so now I have a NIB one if anyone wants to swap.) I think it should be listed as a CBD/Hemp/Pot and beauty box because so much of the “value” I’d from CBD products. I am allergic to Hemp so if anyone wants to swap for anything in the box, LMK.
At least the Pasties are nice. I got green sequin ones. Sadly, my boobs are too impacted by gravity/gastric bypass a decade ago to wear them. Very pretty ones and if I was 25, I would totally use them.

I think I would prefer to buy the Penguin without the commitment of the SlutBox or something similar. A sex box would be great, but this one is just silly, imho.

Well I got a reply from CS. Cut off date for Dec box was 12/19. I signed up 12/21. So I paid $20 for a bunch of crap I won’t use and don’t need, and didn’t get the only thing I wanted. Sucks. Will probably never sub to this one again.

S

Sorry to hear you didn’t get the Dec Box. Did you have any trouble canceling from them?

Reply ButtonReply

Karrissa

Here’s the spoilers for January:
1. Surprise pasties $8 value
2. Vegan CBD gummies $40 value
3. **GUIDE** to anal play **BOOKLET** $5 value (they literally sent this tiny little instruction booklet, it’s ridiculous)
4. “FOUR” organics lip balm $6 value
5. LOV Gel Blush Stick $13 value
6. ONE condom 2-in-1 pack (1 condom + lube packet) $1.50 value
7. Raeka Beauty Peel Off Mask $8 value
8. Jersey Shore Cosmetics Bath Salts $27.50 value (this is 4oz of fucking salt and it has a $28 value?)

Krystyn

Right?? Besides December which mostly redeemed itself this box is an utter joke! The Measurable Difference trash is dollar store makeup and found for a few bucks at TJX too and the values on other stuff is a joke! $40 for some faux CBD? Naw.

Amber W.

I’m pretty stoked with what I got but I guess I’m easy to please. Though it would’ve been nicer if there was a full size bottle of lube or something.

Reply ButtonReply

Karrissa

Other than the gummies and the bath salts, it’s a bunch of cheap products they threw in. What does a blush stick and lip balm have to do with a slut box? I’m sure those bath salts are nice but they’re also way overvalued. I was never planning on getting the January box, so it was even more of a disappointment.

michelle

Despite the name and theme of the box, I don’t think you’re supposed to use your salts for that.

Karrissa

ha. I’m so annoyed at this box right now. thanks for the laugh.

Alyssa

I’ve got shipping notification and should have my box By the 19th, anyone receiveing boxes yet? I need spoilers!

Reply ButtonReply

Amber W.

Mine is supposed to come tomorrow. I’ll let you know!

Reply ButtonReply

Alyssa

Well my box came and I’m a little disappointed… I signed up for the free penguin so at least I got that

Adrienne

When does slutbox ship out? I signed up on Dec 31 so I could get the free penguin. So far I haven’t heard anything

Reply ButtonReply

Karrissa

I signed up on December 21st and just received a January box. No December. I just emailed to cancel because this box SUCKS. The only value is from some $40 CBD gummies, otherwise it’s trash.

Amber W.

I posted a comment two says ago but I guess it wasn’t approved. I just got the email today that January’s box just shipped. Tracking already shows movement. I guess we’re not getting spoilers this month. Lol

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Sorry that comment was stuck in pending for admin approval due to their wording not your’s 🙂

Amber W.

They haven’t shipped yet. I emailed to cancel February’s box and the only spoiler I got for January’s was basically the theme:

“Stride with pride into 2019 with what you need to be your best self. January’s “New Year | New Hoe” collection is curated with the goods and goodies you need to up your game ⬆️, light your fire 🔥, and make your mark ❌, while being your ethically SLUT-tiest. Always sexy, slick, and body posi, SLUT-Box’s “New Year | New Hoe” will help you feel as tasty as champagne 🍾 and as lit as fireworks 🎆 —- everything MUVA’s Rosebuds already are. ❣️🌹💋.”

Alyssa

So when do we get a spoiler for January?!

Reply ButtonReply

LisaFalana

That’s exactly what I came on here to see/ask.

Reply ButtonReply

Jen

Okay not even kidding you that palette is at the 99 cent only store right now!!! I saw it and took a picture to make sure it was the same one and it sure it…

Reply ButtonReply

Marne Orenich

OMG. Shocked… but not shocked?

I just subbed for this box to get the free PENGUIN. It shipped separately, in fact I just got it in the mail tonight. I’ll get the January box when they ship. depending on what’s in it, I may or may not cancel. I’m glad she’s getting some collaborative help with this box from an LGBTQ publication, and I hope it’s a new start for this box to be consistently good… it’s a great concept and idea, but it needs some tweaking for sure.

Reply ButtonReply

Lydia

Oh come on! Yuck all around. Seriously yuck.

Reply ButtonReply

Kelly

I’m in no way a prude. I’m also not a fan of Amber and while I get the whole idea behind this box the constant names “ho,” “slut,” “whore” is just too much for me. I feel gross just reading the reviews. I also don’t need to pay monthly for lube, cheap makeup, tips on how to ❗️, etc. You can buy great quality “toys” NOW on Zulilly!!!! No joke. Yep, I bought one for $20 and it’s awesome!

Reply ButtonReply

Vicki

I am waiting on my December box. Looking forward to the nail Cream and Penguin. Too bad the makeup doesn’t look good, but for $20 it seems like a good deal. They are currently offering a special where new subscribers can get the Penguin free with the January box. Not sure about the code as I deleted the email.

Reply ButtonReply

Bethany

I wish I could find this deal! I would sign up!

Reply ButtonReply

Bethany

Well, should have done a little searching before posting that–found the coupon code easily–PENGUIN 🙂 Thanks for the heads up, Vicki!

Kristin Rogers

The code is Penguin

Reply ButtonReply

Anon

PENGUIN is the code for freebie

Reply ButtonReply

Asteele

What freebie?

Adeline

I subbed for the toy, which was awesome. Haven’t tried the lube yet but I always like getting new ones , looking for the holy grail.

Pallete was a no go for me. The lipstick was a hell no for me, I received a color called blitzed, a light teal blue. Let me know you would like swapping for them, cheap. Just click on my name

I am ambivalent about trying the Palo alto stick and the nail polish remover.

Reply ButtonReply

Aarjullor

The toy was worth the price of the box. Thank goodness it was in there, since the rest was not. The pallete seemed very cheap, my teen saw it and just said No! lol I got a color of lipstick that only a kid could pull off, space grey.

I canceled as soon as it shipped, since the box varies so much. I’ll subscibe again if a spoiler looks good.

Reply ButtonReply

Amber

I’ve been wondering where my box even is? Anyhow, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Measurable Difference products at Five Below and judging by the pigment, I’m probably correct lol I’m a little bummed we are only getting 1 piece of the Palo Santo, but everything else looks decent. I’m excited to see what color lipstick I get, there was a wild variety!

Reply ButtonReply

Stella

Marnie your reviews are awesome, I agree the palette seems cheap, but all in all this was my first box, I got it for the penguin … Next month I think they’re having a blogger named Salty coordinate January’s box.
