Bookroo is a subscription service that sends books for children every month. They have a board book plan (for ages 0-2.5), a picture book plan (for ages 2.5-6) and a chapter book plan (for ages 7-10). They offer the option to alternate between picture and board books each month which is great if you have children in different age groups like I do.

This review is of the Board Book, $19.95 a month, box.

Bookroo sends the books individually wrapped each month.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Bookroo November 2018 Review

Here is a closer look at this month's fun wrapping paper. It's so festive and shiny!

Bookroo always includes an insert that gives a brief description of each book. This month they included a nice Meet the Author note.

Once I Was a Pollywog by Douglas Florian - Retail Value $6.99

This is my son's favorite book that we received! He loves it and had me read it to him over and over again until he had all of the animals and their babies memorized! This book starts with a baby animal, such as the pollywog and then goes on to tell what they become when they grow up, like a frog. They used some different animals than we are used to reading about though, such as a hog and a hare, so it was fun for the kids to learn about animals similar to the ones they already know. I even caught him reading it to himself this morning and it was adorable to see!

Flora and the Ostrich by Molly Idle - Retail Value $9.99

I really like the style of this book with all of the negative space and the adorable illustrations of Flora and the ostrich. This book of opposites is a little more fun than most because it features a few flaps to open to reveal the next word. This was a great, simple way to teach my daughter about opposites! This isn't necessarily a book I would go out and buy because there isn't enough of a story to it for me, but as far as a cute, unique book, it is nice to have in our collection!

Hug Machine by Scott Campbell - Retail Value $7.99

This book was fun and cute! The Hug Machine is the best at hugging and he spends his days spreading hugs to everyone and everything that he meets, even rocks! This was a slightly silly story about a boy who just wants to spread a little cheer through his hugs and gets refueled by pizza. The kids enjoyed this one and I thought it was a fun book that was unique!

Verdict: This was a fun month of Bookroo board books for us. I honestly, think it was worth it just to see how my son responded to his pollywog book! They all felt very unique and were pretty cute! The retail value of the books was $24.97 which is pennies above the $24.95 cost of the box ($19.95 a month + $5 shipping). Only one of the books on sale, which makes me feel a bit better about the value, and also since I am on the alternating plan, I think that this balances out with the months that I receive picture books since those are usually higher than the cost of the box. Now, if you are on the board book only plan, this might not feel like such a great value to you.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
