The Home Detox Mini Box November 2018 Review

I've always been pretty minimalist with my skincare and makeup routine both because I like a natural look and because I've been overwhelmed by the idea of researching beauty products to suit my preferences. As I have slowly begun to incorporate mindful practices into my mornings (I'm still not sure you'd call my mornings very routine, but they're at least less rushed and more intentional than they have been most of my life), I've been more open to seeking products that truly fit into my values. The Home Detox Mini Box is the right sub for the task, offering 2-3 toxin-free, cruelty-free items for me to experiment with. I'm so ready for this!

This card gives info about the products in my November/December box. Subscribers are given the option to choose between the Red or Pink collection this month. I'm reviewing the Red collection.

HAN Skin Care Cosmetics Eyeshadow - Taupey Plum, 0.11 oz – Retail Value $15.00

I mentioned above that my beauty routine is pretty simple, and by that, I mean that many days I go without makeup at all. But even on occasions when I'm dolled up, I never, ever wear foundation, bronzer, or highlighter...I'm freckly so all that is tricky territory. Most often I'm doing a little neutral eyeshadow and some mascara, with a cat-eye liquid eyeliner if I'm feeling festive. So because eyes are my most comfortable area of makeup, I'm going to start with this gorgeous eyeshadow.

I'm very enthusiastic about the straightforward, plant-based ingredients!

How beautiful is that color? I'm more of a matte eyeshadow kind of gal, so I was curious to see how the shimmer here would turn out.

I'm happy to report that the shimmer is very subtle! I'd call this a dark neutral tone—skilled makeup appliers might blend it with other tones, but for me, a simple swipe or two with a small brush gives a romantic vibe that's not too overdone. Perfect for the weekend!

HAN Skin Care Cosmetics Cheek & Lip Tint - Rose Berry, .20 oz — Retail Value $16.00

Cheek tint really isn't something I go for on the reg, but lip tint is more familiar territory for me. I'll likely use this product on my lips more often than on my cheeks, but I like knowing I can experiment with wearing it as cheek color if the mood strikes.

The color is called "rose berry," and actually it has kind of a floral-berry scent to it, as well! Definitely a version of that scent that feels sophisticated, though, and not too sweet.

Again, this product has a little shimmer to it, but not so much that it looks sparkly when in use. Just adds a little glow!

I'd say this tint truly does add tint, enhancing your lip color. It's nice for a little something extra for every day.

Jaiden Madison Natural Lip Creme - Scandalous, .03 oz — Retail Value $20.00 (Found here for $10.00)

If I'm going to do a bold lip, it's often a bright pop of coral or a classic red with a matte finish, so this deep berry tone with sheen to it is not my typical go-to, but I'm excited to try something new!

Here you can see it's applied with a classic wand.

Turns out I love this color! It would be perfect for the holidays when I'll want to look nice but will be eating basically nonstop throughout the day and won't want to keep up after a bolder lip. This creme is smooth and not to sticky. I'm pleasantly surprised!

Here's the entire palette in this month's box. From top to bottom, you'll see the eyeshadow applied with a brush, the eyeshadow again but applied with my finger, the cheek & lip tint, and finally the lip creme.

Verdict: My first Home Detox Mini Box has me all smiles! As someone who isn't fully immersed in the world of beauty products but wants to build up my collection in an ethical, eco-friendly way, this is the perfect subscription for me. This month's value totals $51 and the box costs $24.95 bi-monthly, which to me is a very, very good value!

The Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? As of this review's publish date, yes! From their website:

Boxes are shipped the first week of the month, every other month depending on your renewal date. Orders placed before the last day of the month will receive a next-month shipment. Orders placed after the last day of the month will receive a box in the following month's shipment. For renewals, your next box will ship two months later, as this is a bi-monthly subscription box.

Example: Orders placed by November 30th will receive box shipped December 1st.

Value Breakdown: The box costs $24.95 with free shipping, and this round's items add up to a total of $51.00 (or $41.00 if you're using the sale price on the lip creme). Each box is promised to include a $50 value, so we're right on par. Here's approximately how much you're paying for each item (using the $51 value):

  • Eyeshadow: $7.34
  • Cheek & Lip Tint: $7.83
  • Lip Creme: $9.78
