Our Review

Target Beauty Box Skip the Wash batiste

Batiste Instant Hair Refresh Dry Shampoo, 1.6 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.91  (Buy a 6.7 oz full-size for $7.99)

Bastiste has been my go-to dry shampoo for years! I can always use more. This works very well, and it seems to make my hair softer when I use it. Out of the brands in this box, this one has the most "white residue" or powder you have to work into your hair and get the hang of, but it's effective. My favorite thing about this brand is that they offer hair-colored versions of dry shampoo! Brunettes should get their brunette version with brown powder, and redheads have a variation, too! They also offer other scents.

Target Beauty Box Skip the Wash love beauty planet

Love, Beauty, and Planet Citrus Peel Radical Refresher Uplifting Dry Shampoo, 1.15 oz - Estimated Value $1.87 (Buy a 4.3 oz full size for $6.99)

I was introduced to this brand through Birchbox, and I've been happy to see them near me at Target recently, too. I've never tried their dry shampoo before, and I have to say I'm really happy with it. First of all, the Citrus Peel scent smells amazing and is light and refreshing and not overpowering. Also, this didn't seem to have much if any of a white, powdery aspect to it, either. It made my hair soft and seemed to absorb the oil well. I like this one! There's a grapefruit-scented one, too.

Target Beauty Box Skip the Wash ogx

OGX Refresh & Restore Coconut Miracle Oil Dry Shampoo, 1.75 oz - Estimated Value $2.45 (Buy a 5 oz full-size for $6.99)

This is a fab dry shampoo! It goes on clear with no residue, it smells like coconut, and I felt it did a good job refreshing my style.

Target Beauty Box Skip the Wash not your mothers

Not Your Mother's Plump For Joy Orange Mango Body Building Dry Shampoo, 1.6 oz - Estimated Value $1.37 (Buy a 7 oz full size for $5.99

This dry shampoo is "body building" and I'd say it does a good job of it! It did make my hair feel a little stiff when I first applied, but after tousling or brushing it through, it felt fine with a little extra body. This would be a great dry shampoo if you're trying to do an updo or working with bobby pins for your style that day. I didn't love the scent, but it faded shortly after.

Target Beauty Box Skip the Wash dove

Dove Refresh + Care Fresh Coconut Dry Shampoo, 1.15 oz - Estimated Value $1.12 (Buy a 5 oz full-size for $4.89)

After Batiste, I'd say this Dove dry shampoo had the next most white powder, but it also dispersed just fine after working into my hair. I don't think this one was the most effective of this variety of samples, but it still worked fine. This wouldn't be one I'd buy again, just by comparison others worked better and smelled better, but I will definitely use up this whole sample.

The Verdict: The total estimated value for this box is $8.72, which almost breaks even with the $8.99 cost of the box. Because of this, the real value of this kit isn't to get a huge discount on a bunch of products, but in being able to try several different brands of dry shampoo without having to purchase them all full-size. Personally, as someone who uses dry shampoo frequently, that makes it totally worth it. As I said earlier, Batiste is my go-to, but after buying a full-size of one or two other kinds over the years to try them, and hating them, I stopped trying out other brands. I'm so happy I grabbed this kit to try all these brands, considering 4 out of the 5 here were new to me, and they all work well enough that I'll use them all.  I think Love, Beauty, and Planet is my new favorite!

To Wrap Up: Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this kit is still available on Target's website for both delivery and free ship-to-store!

Value Breakdown: Since the total estimated value of this box adds up to break even with the cost of the box, the breakdown would basically be the same as the prices listed above.

I purchased this box as well! While the value may be basically equal to the box price, it’s so nice getting to try mini versions before buying the full size. There’s nothing I hate more than buying a dry shampoo that doesn’t work for me (I’m looking at you, ouai foam)
In regards to the value as well, you probably can’t find any of the mini versions at the prices listed. They’re always overpriced lol

Prior to this review I had looked at the value of this set. I based my prices on what it would cost to buy these actual travel sizes not based on full sizes. OGX was $3.99, Batiste $2.97, Not Your Mother’s $2.99, Dove $1.97, and Love and Planet $3.19 for a total of $15.11.
