Here are the ingredients:

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Kikurage Mushrooms Front

Kikurage Mushrooms

I love when Takeout Kit includes delish dehydrated veggies! They seem to plump up really nicely and the flavor is preserved well. And they were very generous with the mushrooms, too!

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Super Sweet Corn Front

Super Sweet Corn

I like that this corn is not only sweet, but it is super sweet!

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Chili Oil Front

Chili Oil

This chili oil has a bit of a kick to it! I love cooking with this spicy oil, but I’ve never used it as a garnish.

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Green onions & Togarashi Spice Font

Green Onions & Togarashi Spice

These are the two garnishes that came in the traditional Chinese takeout container. The Togarashi spice was quite hot, which definitely brought this meal to another level.

I linked a similar item by Annie Chun available at Target. This item was just a garnish, but it added color and another salty texture to the dish.

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Tonkotsu Soup Base FrontBack

Tonkotsu Soup BaseBuy 10 packs for $22.98 + $5 shipping

This soup base is tasty! It is savory goodness, and I am so happy they included four packets to really saturate the broth with flavor.

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Ramen Noodles Front

Ramen NoodlesBuy a 24.5oz package for $8.30

The packaging for the ramen noodles is darling. I only used two of four bundles of noodles since I was only feeding my boyfriend and I. We ended up having a ton of noodles left over, so they provided well over what was needed (thanks!).

Preparing the ingredients:

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Preparing Top

The only preparation needed for this kit was to soak the corn in 1 cup of water — easy enough!

Let’s get cooking!

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Cooking Step 1.1

Here are the ingredients used for step one: the building of the broth!

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Cooking Step 1.2

In this dutch oven, you’ll find the broth of this ramen dish including both the Tonkotsu soup base and the Kikurage mushrooms. I brought 8 cups of water to a boil then added the base and mushrooms and allowed the mixture to simmer for 20 minutes while proceeding with the other steps of this dish.

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Cooking Step 2

Step two includes preparing the protein (eggs not included, but encouraged for this recipe). I brought a medium sized pot of water to a boil and let the 3 eggs boil for over 7 minutes, then let them chill in an ice bath.

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Cooking Step 3

After incorporating the garlic and rice, I added the chicken broth and 2 cups of water. After mixing well, I lidded my dutch oven and set it on a back burner on low heat, and I set a timer for 15 minutes.

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Cooking Step 4

Using the boiling water from my hard-boiled eggs, I boiled two bundles of the ramen for a little over three minutes, then rinsed them with warm water.

Side note: I have to applaud Takeout Kit for instructing me ahead of time to keep the boiling water rolling while chilling my eggs. This saved a lot of aggravation for those of us who, in the heat of the moment, can’t remember what the next step entails. Thank you!

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Cooking Step 5

Here are all of the items used in step five, which is to build your plate and garnish it with these thoughtful ingredients.

Takeout Kit November 2018 - Ready To Eat Top

And here is my masterpiece! I am so proud that I assembled this beauty myself, and it tastes better than it looks if that’s possible! I even get to flex my new chopsticks from my October greenUP Box (review found here)!

Verdict: Japanese Tonkotsu Ramen Meal Kit was the best Takeout Kit, yet! It was so simple to put together, and there is nothing better than a spicy ramen at home in your jammies! The instructions are so easy to follow; it is so convenient to have all of the ingredients at your fingertips — this dish only took me about 25 minutes to make. The ramen really felt authentic with all of the essential components, tastes, and textures. We will certainly be recreating this one pretty soon with our leftover ingredients.

As far as this subscription goes, I can really appreciate what Takeout Kit is doing. I found this box to be very thoughtful and well put together, and I love that you can keep this around for its two-month shelf life to prepare it when the timing is perfect. I also feel that Takeout Kit would make an excellent gift for that special foodie in your life who is otherwise impossible to buy for.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? Yes! Buy it here as a one-time box for $32.95.

Value Breakdown: This monthly box costs $29.95 a month, including free shipping. This Takeout Kit serves up to four people, which comes to about $7.49 per plate.
