World of Drag October 2018 Review

Almost immediately after launching World of Drag (that started as a quarterly box) this past Summer, they announced they were going monthly starting in October. The first monthly shipment had a delay, but the November came only a week or two later so it seems like they may be on track now.

Instead of 6-8 items that came in the quarterly box, they decided to simplify it and include a shirt, enamel pin, and mystery item each month. It sounds like most of the items will be exclusive to the box as well. Let's see what we got!

"Toot" T-Shirt, size medium

Every month will bring a new tee. I'm not sure how I feel about that since I'm not the type to wear a tee that has a logo (or really anything) on it, so this will most likely end up being a sleep shirt if anything. It's a deep bright purple color and since I chose "women's" when I subscribed (plus my size), it has a more trim cut to it than the average unisex tee. I'm 5'3" with a 30" waist and a 36" bust and let me tell you, it fits pretty perfectly, but not loose how I'm used to. This one is definitely a slim and tighter fit but since it's 100% cotton it's also super soft. So- I thought I was a fan of Drag Race until I started getting this sub and now I am feeling out of it! Granted, this shirt references an offshoot show from World of Wonder (that can be found on YouTube) called "Fashion Photo RuView" in which Drag Race Superstars review past outfits and looks from the show and either "Toot" or "Boot" it but now I know! I'm glad they went with the positive "Toot" here instead of a "Boot"! The letters resemble rhinestones to give it some disco ball glitz to make it extra TOOT.

"Nerve" Enamel Pin

Next is the enamel pin that will also be a recurring feature of every month. This one is in the form of an orange pennant which I just love since Drag Race truly is a sport all of its own. The word "Nerve" is a reference to the values "Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, and Talent" that Ru looks for in a drag queen and (ahem) happens to spell out a not so nice word that queens have reclaimed. Not to mention it also happens to lyrics to one of her songs with the same name. I have a feeling there are at least three more of these to come...

"Skinny Legend" Trixie Mattel Sweatband Set

The third "mystery" item this month is a sweatband set from Trixie Mattel who appeared on season 7 of Drag Race! As you can gather from her name, Trixie loves a good Barbie look so this set including a bright pink headband and two matching wristbands with classic Barbie lettering is perfect for her! These actually really take me back to my childhood in the 80s when I too loved Barbie as well as an exercise program for little girls called "Get in Shape, Girl" (anyone else remember it?). I had a pale purple headband JUST Like the one here and I did quite a bit of working out to the cassettes that came with it. The sweatband reads "Skinny Legend" (complimentary slang for celebrities who are considered to be thin, flawless, and underappreciated) while each wristband says "Trixie Mattel". These would make part of a killer costume for the next Drag Race viewing get together for sure!

Here I am in the shirt + sweatband set!

Trixie Mattel Sticker

It looks like I also got a bonus sticker as well this month featuring Trixie wearing her signature makeup and sweatbands from above!

Verdict: I'm not sure how I feel about the new iteration of World of Drag now that it's monthly. It's not quite as magical as the first box when it was quarterly, but I get that this one is probably a lot easier logistically. The pin is great and the sweatband set took me back, but I'm not sure I'll want a new t-shirt every month. I do know a lot of Drag Race fans though, so I could potentially have plenty to pass along to them. For me, I'm looking forward to some merch from local Pittsburgh Queens Sharon Needles or Alaska, or if I'm lucky, that tall drink of water, Milk

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but you'll most likely get November which has already started shipping.

We generally begin shipping in the early half of the month.

Value Breakdown: At $23.00 ($19.00 + $4.00 shipping) for this subscription, you're paying $7.67 per item (not counting the bonus sticker).

Nelly

I got a “The Library Is Now Open” tee that I adore! Just bragging.

I’ll admit to not being familiar with the show, but toot is what we call frats in my family…so, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to wear that shirt around…

Make that farts…big difference!

I think frats is pretty funny though!

Pam

I got a different t-shirt in my October box. So shirts may vary for others as well.

I had to actually watch the video to jog my brain but I had quite a bit of that stuff, the bangles, the hand weights you added water to, and the ribbon. Thank you for the link, it was like a time machine Marne!
I missed the first box/review, and I think you gave a fair assessment of this box. I wonder why they changed so much when there was all positive (including comments which is rare!) feedback on the first box?

@Marnie – I loved “Get in Shape Girl!” Wow, I haven’t thought about that in years. I had the exercise stick with a ribbon attached and I cried when it broke.

Oh no. What happened to the box? This is so basic. 🙁

Remember that Trixie also won All Stars 3. All Stars 4 starts December 14th, and I’m so excited to see more of my sponge girl Monét X Change!

So much eyeroll at myself: It took me four seasons to figure out the extra meaning of Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, and Talent. I also didn’t figure out till halfway thru her season that Sharon Needles had a specific reason for her first name. Sometimes I’m really thick-headed.

Flo

You do look super cute in the toot shirt ❤️

I say we remove that NSFW label. There is nothing dirty or not work appropriate here.

Hey Lee! I agree that the review/items themselves aren’t very NSFW but I do link to Alaska’s page at the end and her full name has the F word in it. I also want to be sensitive to the fact that “Charisma Uniqueness Nerve and Talent” also spell a word that many people don’t care for. We changed the warning to say “FYI – not all the product content references are suitable for viewing at work. Just a heads up!”. I’d rather be safe than sorry. Hope you understand. 🙂

Haha, I clicked to read the review because of the NSFW label and was disappointed.
