Hidden Picture Let's Play Book Club November 2018 Review

When my daughter (now 4) was younger, I used to receive the Hello Magazine for her, which my sons still enjoy reading today (they really last!), so I was super excited to be able to introduce her to a new level of this familiar subscription. I think the fact that Highlights grows with your child is what makes it so fun and unique!

We received a letter detailing all of the ways the included activities are meant to help your child build skills such as pre-reading, math, problem-solving and figure/ground perception. The books have 36-pages so there is plenty to keep your child entertained while learning through each activity.

Hidden Pictures Tote Bag

This little bag is a bonus item with your first shipment and is just a bit shorter than our magazines at 11 inches x 12 inches. I love how it features an actual hidden picture on the front and that it expands pretty wide so it will accommodate several magazines for storage or travel!

Hidden Pictures Poster with Stickers

We also received this large Hidden Stickers coloring page complete with a few pictures. I love how big it is and I think I'll spread it out on the floor one day and let the kids color it together. I also appreciated that it has an answer key on the back!

Highlights Let's Play Hidden Pictures Magazine: Finder and Keeper- Retail Value $7.95

Each magazine follows the same format and features a section on the back with several different objects for kids to find throughout their book.

The first page features a note to parents as well as some puzzle tips and a link where kids can play more online. They also include a table of contents where they separate the pages into categories of Puzzles, Sticker Fun, and Activities.

The pages of the book are filled with several hidden object pictures and each page has a little extra activity on it such as Picture This where they ask the child to draw, a scavenger hunt or writing practice. These are all great activities to reinforce many different educational skills.

I like that they also feature a longer story which is perfect for reading practice. I also liked that they switched up the hidden pictures games in this magazine with a Seeing Double section where each object is hidden twice on these pages.

These are the Sticker Fun pages which include sheets of colored stickers to add to the black and white pages. Then when you are finished, you get to color it all in.

The page I really liked was called Say It Two Ways where they listed both the English and Spanish version of the objects we were supposed to locate complete with pronunciation guides. A great way to learn a new language!

The back of the book featured answer keys which I thought was great because some of those are harder than they look!

Highlights Let's Play Hidden Pictures Magazine: Finder and Keeper- Retail Value $7.95

Our second magazine was very similar to the first in the format with the note to parents and table of contents at the beginning. The individual pages feature many of the same activities, but they have different objects and themes.

Some of the extra activities included a poem and this Guess What section where you have to answer several riddles that go along with the pictures.

It also featured a Rhyme Time section with the objects incorporated into the text and some more writing practice to go along with the next picture.

There was a Connect the Dots section and another longer-length story, just like in the first book we received.

We had some more Sticker Fun pages which my daughter and I actually found to be somewhat challenging! It definitely took us a while just to get our stickers onto the pages over the hidden objects before we could start coloring.

She had a lot of fun finding objects on this page and then drawing a birdhouse picture to go along with it!

Verdict: This was our first time receiving Highlights Hidden Pictures Let's Play Book Club and both my daughter and I really enjoyed the books. I feel like we got through a lot of activities, but still have so many to go! I think it's a great way to entertain and occupy my daughter while also providing her with some light learning and a lot of problem-solving and fine motor skills. I loved that while I went upstairs to get the baby, she completed an entire page by herself and had all the objects that she had found marked off with a line (she's still working on her checkmarks). She was so proud and I found that her confidence increased with each new page she was able to complete, which as a parent, was awesome to see. The cost of this subscription is $16.88 ($13.90 + $2.98 shipping) and each of these books alone retails for $7.95, so essentially you are paying $0.98 for shipping, which I think is fair. That's also not counting the poster and bag we received since those were free gifts with our first shipment!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Highlights is a scam. I subscribed for my 4 year old. They charged me for the first shipment, and they never mailed it. So I canceled the subscription. They now, on a daily basis, try to charge my card almost $19 for another month, even though my account is now canceled. I’ve Contacted customer service NINE times. And they wont reply or help. This company is a scam. Don’t give these people your card info. They’ll keep charging your card and refuse to cancel your subscription, and you most definitely won’t get what you think you paid for. Next stop? BBB.
