This is a review of the Premium Sachet Tea of the Month box, which is $14 a month.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Harney & Sons Tea of the Month Premium Sachet November 2018 Review

When I first saw this box I couldn’t understand why a container of tea needed such big packaging. Once I opened it, I saw it was because of my welcome gift! The first month of your subscription you receive the tea of the month box, as well as a nice Harney & Sons branded mug, a welcome manual, and a few loose individual tea bags.

This welcome manual is great for those who don’t know much about tea as it describes the optimal temperature and steeping times for various teas, and it also gives some quick background information on the different teas out there in the world (white, black, green, oolong…).

Harney & Sons Logo Mug – Retail Value $12.95

This is a sturdy ceramic mug with a nice weight to it, and it can hold a generous 15 ounces of tea! The handle is nice and big for wrapping my hands around, but be careful while handling - if the tea is hot the mug is hot too.

Inside the bigger box was this smaller box, and I think this is the size package I can expect to receive going forward.

There were three individual packets of tea in the bigger packaging with my welcome gift and three in the smaller box. I have only tried the chamomile so far, but it was incredible! I am going to store these in my purse so I can always have delicious tea on the go.

It included an info card with more information on our chose tea of the month and the steeping instructions.

Dragon Pearl Jasmine Classic Tin of 20 Sachets

Dragon Pearl Jasmine Classic Tin of 20 Sachets – Retail Value $12.50

Harney & Sons have some gorgeous tea packaging and this tin is no exception—I love the light purple! Dragon Pearl Jasmine is a beautiful blend of green and white tea hand-rolled into pearls and then infused with jasmine flowers. This has a strong floral aroma that is delicate and inviting, and I found the brewed tea to be comforting and easy on my stomach. This is the tea I would reach for when I need to relax or unwind, as it doesn’t pack the punch some other energizing teas would. I didn’t feel the need to add sugar to it, either. I had a few sips left in my mug that I forgot about, and when the tea had completely cooled I tried it chilled. It was actually incredibly tasty, so this would be a good candidate for a light iced tea as well.

The Verdict: Harney & Sons knocked my first box out of the park! Dragon Pearl Jasmine is a tea I never would have chosen for myself, but I really do love it. The addition of the welcome gift made for a nice presentation when I opened my box, and I love that they included a few individual tea bag servings, too. For $14 I think this subscription would be a lovely gift to the tea lover in your life (or to yourself), and I think the tea itself is high quality and delicious.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? I am not positive but I think the November box is still shipping!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $14 with free shipping and I received a tin of tea with 20 sachets. That is like paying $0.70 per sachet!

Im interested. I understand the above comments, but I have never tried their teas. Getting a box with a combination of different samples before placing an order on their website would be easier for me I think.

Samples are sent with an order, and if you don’t prefer the actual tea which you are at their mercy for, then you are stuck with a whole tin of it… soooo, I believe it would be much more attractive if they offered a subscription of samplers at a much lower cost point. I do My Tea Club for $5.50/month and I get 3 teas that offer me many more cups than promised. It’s a much better sub structure I think.

I drink Harney & Sons Paris Black Tea everyday, atleast 4 cups. I agree with this statement, though the packaging is nice, you would think they would discount the product to draw in new customers. Thanks for the heads up on the discounts with the website, I normally order through Amazon but will be checking their site now!

Harneys is my go to tea and I order frequently, always during a sale. Add me to the list of those who ‘don’t get’ this subscription.

Fantastic tea, though!

I don’t understand this subscription. Harney has amazing teas, but they also have an amazing website & fabulous customer service. I get that the mug was an addition this month, but is it really just a box of 20-30 sachets of a tea they pick each month that you’re paying $14 for? They offer free shipping on the site anyway, and you could pick your own tea for less than this. They also include samples with their shipments. Right now, they are even running a discount, which they do pretty often. I order their tea a lot, but I feel like, as described, I would end up paying more for the same tea if I got this subscription & risk getting one I didn’t like. Perhaps this is geared toward someone who wants to send a recurring gift, but I’m still not seeing it. Maybe I’m missing something.

Looking at their website, the sub price is based on a 12 month period. So, some months, like January 2019, you save $7 while some months the value may be less than the $14 subscription. This way you are introduced to some interesting teas that you may not normally choose, and it’s cost effective for them to have a sub box. It all works out in the end.

I feel the same way. If the subscription was a bunch of different sachets or if it cost less than the original cost of the tin I could see the value, but for what you get it would make more sense to go in and choose a random tea to try each month. I love Harney and Sons but this doesn’t make much sense to me.

I agree with you. Love their teas but really confused with this sub model. You are paying more than retail…it doesn’t make sense!
