If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month, a new “collection” of seasonally appropriate, trend-conscious clothing is added to their collection. Depending on the subscription level you choose, you can pick out 1-2 pieces from those options, and Golden Tote will surprise you with the rest. The surprise items are completely different from the collections you pick from. Golden Tote also offers a Surprise Tote, where you choose your preferred size but leave all the picking up to the stylists at Golden Tote.
This is a review of the 2-item Golden Tote, which is $59.00 + an add-on item.
This $59.00 tote comes with two pieces—one I pick, plus one they pick for me. You can also pick member-priced add-on items to toss in with your order. This is my first Golden Tote bag, but I’ve seen reviews of this subscription before, so I couldn’t wait to see what my stylist picked out for me.
I love reusable bags, and this shimmery leaf design is perfect for fall, although I will probably end up using it all year round.

Striped Tie Skirt, Medium - Retail Value $40, Member Price $35
This skirt was my chosen item for this month. I was drawn to this unique piece immediately because rust is my favorite color to wear, and vertical stripes tend to be slimming and elongating (if that’s even possible). I just love it! I felt super confident wearing this skirt, but I will say the key to pulling this one off is either seamless underwear (please reference the third photo, lol (don’t worry - I didn’t wear it out like this! This photo is just to show you how sheer the fabric is)) or Spanx. Also, this skirt is made of 100% polyester so there is no give in the thigh area; even though I can’t do a split in it, I felt comfortable sitting and bending. I chose to wear this skirt high on my waist, and it fell perfectly, right above my knee. Everything from the cinched, elastic waistband to the cute bow in front to the side pockets - love, love, and love!!
So Fine Sleeveless Turtleneck, Medium - Retail Value $42, Member Price $38
Turtlenecks and I have a very brief history, but when I saw this turtleneck-wrap hybrid with a delicate suede belt, I just had to have this add-on. This rib fabric is 95% rayon and 5% spandex, and I can’t get over how amazingly soft and cozy it is (especially this buttery belt!). The seams are something I have to get used to because they don’t quite smooth out (since it is a wrap you can feel/see the layer underneath--reference 3rd pic down), but it is far from a deal breaker. The asymmetrical front of the wrap also adds a bit of whimsy to this piece, and I can’t wait to pair this shirt with a pair of tall leather boots and black leggings.
Jolie Button Top, Medium
This top is what Golden Tote picked for me as the second item in my tote. Although the color scheme of this tote made my heart do a happy dance, this sweater just didn’t really fit me. I have a long torso, so I prefer shirts that sit a little lower to reach my hips. This shirt just met them but only with the faux, sewn in layer. If there wasn’t a gap in the middle of this shirt, it would have been a way better styling for me. Also, the faux layer look just isn’t a style I care for (but Murray seems to like it!). This shirt is no longer available on the Golden Tote website, and I couldn’t find it anywhere on the interwebs, so I am not sure what the cost could be. I would like to play around with this piece more, so if you have any suggestions on how to style it, I’d love some more direction in the comments.
The Verdict: I’ve watched Golden Tote a long time before subscribing, and I don’t know what was holding me back! The clothing items I chose were not only excellent quality, but everything from the cuts to the colors are unique and so “me.” I can’t wait to wear my new pieces out on the town this season! The surprise item wasn’t quite a hit this month, but to be fair, this is my first month subscribing. I have heard a lot of good feedback on Golden Tote stylists, and I am sure my surprise picks will improve as they get to know me and my style better. I can’t wait to see what choices and surprises next month brings!
