Bulu Box (Weight Loss Version) November 2018 Review
There are box variations, and sometimes rather heavy product promotion, so you may not always get the same box as someone else or be able to make the connection to weight loss for each product:
The information cards are now generic rather than describing your items.
There was also some product literature. Sometimes this relates to items in the box and sometimes it does not.
Aminovital Rapid Recovery (1 serving) – Buy 14 Packs for $24.99
I have received this product in other subscription boxes as well (and also in this subscription box last month). It is plant-based, which is great (I can have it!). It is low in sugar which is nice for a product of this type, and it is caffeine free which is important since I work out at night. It does have some electrolytes (including potassium and calcium) as well as some branched chain amino acids (which help with delayed onset muscle soreness). It has a decent flavor (I’m not so sold on the stevia but I can overlook that here) but it does have 60 calories and that’s the only thing stopping me from buying this in full size (I don’t like to drink my calories.)
Aminovital Action (1 serving) – Buy 14 Packs for $24.99
I’ve had this before, too (also last month, as well as other times). As with the one above (and I forgot to mention this earlier), first, try it out by diluting to half the recommended strength; I often find the flavors of products like this too strong and that is true here, as well. Whereas the other product is meant for after exercise, this is meant for during exercise, and it is also caffeine free (I don’t like using stimulants when I work out since I am on blood pressure medicine already). This one only has 15 calories per serving and that is something I can totally do. Although I do wish this came with more than 14 servings and was scoopable instead of in packets since the individual packets seem like wasteful packaging.
Garden of Life GOLBar in Maple Sea Salt (2.11 oz) – Buy 12 Bars for $20.24
These have been making the rounds of the food and fitness subscription boxes lately; I’ve received a handful of these in the past few months. These are vegetarian but not vegan (contain dairy) and while the nutritional values are good (no sugar, reasonable fiber, 12g protein), the texture still needs a little work. These kind of turn to paste in your mouth and really stick to your teeth. One selling point of these is a low number of ingredients, but I’d be OK with a few more ingredients if it led to a more pleasing mouth feel.
This product was also in the regular version of Bulu Box this month (in a different flavor). Review coming soon!
Megafood D3 Wellness Mixed Fruit Gummies (2 count) – Buy 90 Gummies for $22.59 (found here for $17.62)
This brand has been making the rounds as well; I received some of their elderberry immune support gummies in another box this month. These are super low in sugar and taste more like fruit snacks than gummy candy (they’re thickened with pectin so they’re vegetarian). I don’t need to supplement with D3 but if I did, I would consider these – they’re actually quite low in calories for a gummy supplement.

Ugly by Nature Raw Whipped Toothpaste in Watermelon – Buy in Full Size for $8.99
All right, I just don’t understand the push for fluoride-free toothpaste. Fluoride is so important for not getting cavities and not having fluoride is a deal-breaker for me, especially since I am stuck in Invisalign right now and I can see just how much plaque is growing on my trays even between cleanings. This is gluten-free, vegan, and non-GMO, and it does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate (which gives me canker sores) or artificial sweeteners. Anyway, if you’re in the market for this type of product, now you’re aware of the brand, but I’ll be sticking with my regular toothpaste.

MS Prebiotic (7 pouches) – Retail Value $9.95
Prebiotics are substances that promote a healthy environment for gut bacteria. I actually also received this same item in several boxes in September. At that time, I tried this for a few days and then trailed off because I wasn’t really having any digestive issues that needed help. Now I have started it up again because I just got done with a course of Augmentin (I cut my finger really badly and the urgent care prescribed it for me), which did a number on me in several different ways. So we will see if this helps; I am also eating yogurt with it. I think this is mostly potato starch, though and I don’t know if I’d pay this much for a bunch of potato starch.
PBFit (Original) (0.84 oz) – Buy 8 oz for $7.98
I am a fan of powdered peanut butter. I usually buy PB2 (I put it in smoothies and my husband puts it in oatmeal) but I was perfectly happy to try this brand instead. It is honestly pretty similar to PB2. I would most likely not mix this up with water and make a sandwich (which is suggested for this type of product) but I am happy to use it in my own way. (You can also add this to pancakes, etc., for a bit of peanut butter flavor. I really find it works better mixed in with other things than on its own.)
Deyuherbs Menstreze Dietary Supplement (10 capsules) – Buy 60 Capsules for $32.99 (found here for $24.99)
This has a vegetarian capsule but, unfortunately, I am not a good candidate to test this product. This contains herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine to ease period symptoms and I had a hysterectomy last year. As with any supplement, I’d
definitely encourage you to do your research before trying this out, though I often find that there is not a lot of reliable information available about TCM herbs and how they might interact with Western pharmaceuticals.
Verdict: There were 8 samples this month. If you paid full price for this subscription, you paid about $1.25 each. For what it’s worth, the prebiotic sample pack is roughly equal to the undiscounted cost of the box, and everything else can be considered a bonus.
I was pleased that everything was vegetarian this month as that is not always the case. However, I was disappointed that I have received pretty much every item in this box either from Bulu Box this month in the regular box or in a past month, or from another subscription box. One reason to try a sample box like this is discovery and you can’t really discover something when you’ve had it a couple of times before. (On the other hand, if you only to subscribe to one version of Bulu Box, you’re less likely to receive repeats.)
I’d strongly recommend using our MYSUB799 coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both since there is a lot of product repetition between the two.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, December would be your first shipment. Also, keep in mind that there are variations in the boxes, so your box might not be exactly like mine in any given month.
Coupon - Use our coupon code MYSUB799 to get your subscription at $7.99 per month, for the lifetime of the subscription!
