Here is the info sheet detailing the products in the kit.

Birchbox Sunday Riley Discovery Kit Review - Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser Top

Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser, 1 oz – Estimated Value $10.59 (buy the full-size version for $45)

I am a big fan of this cleanser. I find it to be gentle while really cleaning my face thanks to two types of clay and neroli essential oils. After cleansing, there is never any residue on my cotton pad I use for my toner, so I am pleased with that. I don't know if I would pay $45 for the cleanser, but I definitely am stockpiling as many of these 1 oz cleansers as I can.

Birchbox Sunday Riley Discovery Kit Review - Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream FrontBirchbox Sunday Riley Discovery Kit Review - Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream Open

Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream, 0.30 oz – Estimated Value $11.47 (buy the full-size version for $65)

Thanks to the Winter Box of Style from a few years ago, I have actually owned and gone through a full-size jar of this moisturizer. This has two types of hyaluronic acid, tamarind extract, and papaya enzymes to hydrate, plump, and smooth your skin. I have combination skin with a VERY oily t-zone, and I love the textures of water-gel moisturizers like this one—it just sinks into your skin! This is a lightweight moisturizer, and I really loved it as my consistent morning moisturizer.

Birchbox Sunday Riley Discovery Kit Review - C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum Top

C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum, 0.17 oz – Estimated Value $14.45 (buy the full-size version for $85)

Shout out to Allure January 2018 for giving me a full-size bottle of this serum… that I have barely used. This serum is designed to brighten skin, even skin tone, reduce signs of aging, and even help with redness. The only thing it does for me, however, is provide some mild hydration thanks to the creamy texture of the serum. This also leaves my face slightly sticky, which isn't a problem if you layer your skin care but won't work if you want to just apply this and go on with your day.

Birchbox Sunday Riley Discovery Kit Review - Good Genes All-in-One Lactic Acid Treatment Top

Good Genes All-in-One Lactic Acid Treatment, 0.17 oz – Estimated Value $17.85 (buy the 1 oz version for $105)

This stuff is a cult beauty classic for a reason - it’s amazing! It is a lactic acid designed to help with brightening, hyperpigmentation, and fine lines and wrinkles. You can apply it at night before your moisturizer and wake up to better skin, and you can also use it with a bit of the ceramic slip clay cleanser for a 10 minute "flash facial." When I do the flash facial my skin is redder (but not irritated), but that is gone by the time I wake up the next morning. The full-size version of this stuff costs a pretty penny, so this is another skincare sample I will be hoarding.

The Verdict: This is a good discovery kit if a) you have heard great things about Sunday Riley and want to try her lineup or b) you already love Sunday Riley and want to have minis on hand for upcoming holiday travels. If you get many subscription boxes you probably have tried most, if not all of the products in this kit, so this may not be one you need to buy. That is okay too! Value-wise, I calculated a value of $54.36, which is more than double the cost of the box plus shipping. It is also above the promised value of $50 so props to Birchbox for that.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Yes, this kit is still available for purchase!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $25 ($20 + $5 shipping) and I calculated a value of $54.36. That means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser: $4.87
  • Tidal Moisturizer: $5.27
  • CEO Serum: $6.65
  • Good Genes Treatment: $8.21

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Sunday Riley blew it for me with the leaked emails that show they falsify reviews & target actual negative reviews by trying to cancel them out. Then they piled on bad with worse by claiming that ‘everyone does it’ & they’re just trying to keep up with the competition.

Not a trustworthy company.
