Lillypost is a monthly children’s book subscription! They offer three subscription options: The Picture Book Box, which includes 3 books for ages 4-7, The Board Book Box, which includes 3 books for ages 0-3, and the Mixed Book Box, which includes 1 board book and 2 picture books for all ages. From Lillypost:

For every box that is purchased, Lillypost will be donating one book to a child in need through various literacy-based charities.

This review is of the Mixed Book box for $19.99 a month. This option includes both board books and picture books for families with children in both age ranges.

You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality, and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Lillypost October 2018 Review

Lillypost included this little note that introduces their new coloring contests. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley the Fox into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is the Arctic, and I love that they included some fun Arctic facts too!

This card encourages your littles to enter the coloring contest, even if you've won before!

Lift the Flap: Shapes by Little Learners - Retail Value $7.99

This could very well be an ordinary lift the flap shapes book filled with animals, but what I love about it are the simple line cut-outs and the animals saying "follow me!" It adds a new level of tactile and visual entertainment to this book. I love that kids are encouraged to follow the animals by tracing the line with their finger to get to the flap. It's cute and unique and features animals and thick flaps that babies can easily grasp. This book is a win!

Note that the price listed on the back of the book is less than what Amazon lists it for ($15.48 at the time of writing this).

Little Bot and Sparrow by Jake Parker - Retail Value $17.99 (Found here for $17.09)

This book is about Bot, who gets dropped from the sky as he's no longer needed where he came from. He soon meets Sparrow who teaches him many different things that he doesn't understand, like that he isn't able to fly and that some things that are scary are actually beautiful. Their friendship goes on until the first snowflake falls and Sparrow has to leave. While Bot is sad at first, he soon discovers what a dream is and is able to find happiness with Sparrow there. It's so sweet, but also a little sad, although not so much that a child would pick up on it as such.

I just love how adorable Bot is, and the illustrations in this book are really beautiful. I love the detail and contrast in the cave with the bright fireflies throughout. It's such a magical illustration, and it is very representative of the tone of this whole story. This is my favorite book this month!

The Friend Ship by Kat Yeh - Retail Value $16.99 (Found here for $11.89)

This is the story of a lonely hedgehog who goes in search of some friends. She has grand plans for a Friend Ship that will be filled with friends, and she sets out on her journey to find them. Along the way, she meets many different animals who decide to join her on her journey, and in the end, she finds exactly what she was looking for all along.

It's cute, it's sweet, it's just a little silly, and the illustrations are great. This is another great book that I'm happy to add to our family library!

Verdict: As usual, Lillypost did not disappoint this month. The books were perfect for my kiddos and featured unique, beautiful stories that we will enjoy reading over and over again. I really do love the option to have a mixed book box, because it means that there is something for each of my kids. We can all get so much out of this subscription each month. The cost of the box was $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping), and the total retail value of the books came to $42.97 (or less with sale prices), which is great for such a quality variety of books!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the November box.

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
