How to be a Redhead (H2BAR) is a monthly subscription box that was started by two redheaded sisters, Adrienne and Stephanie Vendetti. Their goal was to empower all redheads to feel confident in their looks by providing products that are “Redhead Friendly.” This means all items are free of heavy chemicals and complement red hair.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

How To Be A Redhead "Redheads Have More Fun" Review

The August H2BAR ‘s card boasts that it will help us redheads’ celebrate our hair to the max; I say BRING IT!

On the back of the card is a handy listing with information about the products and their values.

Also included is a note card with tutorials on how to apply false eyelashes and tips on how to contour your face.

Coastal Scents Sleek Silhouette Palette — Retail Value $24.95 (found here for $14.95)

I was excited to get another Coastal Scents palette (the first one I received was featured in my May H2BAR box), especially a contour kit! This kit features incredibly vibrant pink/fuschia blushes, matte and pearlescent highlighters, and a variety of bronzers for contouring.

The blushes included were intense! You barely can see the baby pink one on my swatch, but it is there! I loved the middle hot pink because a little goes a long way and just adds a slight flush to your cheeks. I usually go for apricot orange blushes, but this one was a fun departure.

The highlights are so pretty, especially due to the gold tones. The pearly eggshell shade is so light that it blends into my pale skin - I barely can see it on the swatch!

Finally, we have the bronzes and goodness, they are stunning! The middle bronzer was my favorite to contour with. It was not terribly harsh and like the blush I used, a little goes a long way!

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this kit, especially when I saw the blushes, but I was pleasantly surprised. Also, this set of colors is rather pigmented, so you don’t need to be heavy-handed with the blushes and bronzers. The $14.95 sale price tag is a bargain for the quality product you get! This would be killer for a makeup novice initially learning how to high light and contour or for a pro that is looking to build up their freelance kit!

H2BAR ‘Red Hair Don’t Care’ Makeup Bag

H2BAR ‘Red Hair Don’t Care’ Makeup Bag — Listed Value $30

I am always in need of makeup bags because I seem to go through them like water. Plus, I have a ton of cosmetics - what a shock! In the February H2BAR box, I received an adorable makeup bag that I reviewed. I loved the design and size of that one. I appreciate the size of this month’s bag, but I am not as impressed with the August bag’s design, especially at that $30 price tag!

Red Aspen Andi Natural- Looking Lashes — Retail Value $16

This month included these silk natural looking lashes from Red Aspen! I was excited to see these, yet intimidated. I have a stockpile of lashes because I used to wear them all the time. Due to me having a condition called Blepharitis (I am prone to getting oils and dirt on my lids and lash lines that can result in styes if I don’t wash them with baby shampoo daily--- fun!), I don’t wear lashes nearly as often as I used to. Can you tell it has been a hot minute since I wore falsies? I apologize in advance because my application was rusty. To get them as they look in the pictures took a few frustrating tries. Wonky application aside, I still felt glamorous as heck! The lashes themselves were flexible but felt rather thick at the band. The lash glue that was supplied did not work for me whatsoever. I had to bust out the big guns aka DUO glue. Overall, these were easy to wear, but I may stick to my KISS or Ardell brand lashes for special occasions.

Juice Organics Shampoo + Conditioner+ Hair Mask Packettes — Listed Value $5 (buy 10fl oz Shampoo and Conditioner bundle for $20 and 6.75fl oz Hair Mask for $14)

A few months back, I received Juice Organics brand in the May H2BAR box. I was impressed with the brand then and still am with the selections in the August box! I recently went to a lighter orange shade which involved bleaching my hair a bit more, so I was excited to try the Hair Mask for this as well! All three products left my hair silky and not greasy or weighed down! I hope to see full-size options in the H2BAR boxes, but I totally appreciate the packettes for traveling. They work great on shorter trips, especially if flying.

Freeze It Mega Hair Spray

Freeze It Mega Hair Spray — Listed Value $3 (buy 10fl oz for $5.68)

Let me tell you, Freeze It hairspray and I had quite the love affair in my college days. It was about $3 a can back then in the early 2000s and held my hair like no other. I even turned my mom onto it and my aunt and I typically get her a stockpile of it for her during the holidays! This hairspray will keep your hair in place. If you like your hair big, styled into a bouffant or beehive - this is the way to go. It is Tracy Turnblad approved; it will not budge. Wind and water won’t penetrate your hair if you are using Freeze It, I promise! I love the travel size too because this is perfect for touch-ups on the go or for flying.

PCA Skin Hydrator Plus Broad Spectrum SPF 30 .25fl oz — Listed Value $5 (buy 1.7fl oz for $36)

I am always seeking great sun blocks and moisturizers to protect my skin. The packaging of this PCA Skin Hydrator is very modest, especially since the product itself is so excellent. I am impressed by how this sunblock absorbs and doesn’t leave an oily feel. My skin feels soft and incredibly hydrated. Even though summer is over, I will be using this sample until it is gone to protect my skin when I am outside in the fall months.

Goddess Garden Organic Packettes — Listed Value $3 (buy 1floz Daily SPF 30 Moisturizer Firming Primer for $18.99 and/or 1fl oz Softening Night Serum for $19.99)

Wow! I wish these packettes were larger sized samples, especially the Firming primer! I absolutely love a decent primer. The scent is this gorgeous herbal bouquet and made my skin feel soft, yet firm. The night serum also left my skin glowing the next day! I am impressed by the Goddess Garden products and hope to see more in future H2BAR boxes!

Miss Spa Chocolate Crème Mask Chocolate

Miss Spa Chocolate Crème Mask Chocolate — Retail Value $3.99, Listed Value $5

All I have wanted to do lately is stuff my face with chocolate, so why not coat my face in it as well? This mask smells so scrumptious that I didn’t want to take it off! Upon applying it and rubbing it on the skin, you do feel some warmth. I left it on for well over the 15 minutes suggested and rinsed it with warm water. It didn’t feel tight or taught on my skin like some clay masks do. My skin felt amazingly soft the next day. The packet had enough that I could use it for another usage as well which was a big plus!

Verdict: This month’s H2BAR selections were rather stellar! My favorites were Coastal Scents palette, Freeze It hairspray, Goddess Garden Organics packettes, and the Red Aspen lashes. I love the variety of products they send, some from larger brand names and independent companies I have never heard of! I also am always amazed by how much you get for the cost of this box! The box is $18.98 monthly including shipping and this month's total estimated value is $90.94. The eyelashes alone retail at $16! What a value!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? This box is currently sold out, but order by 18th of each month and your box will ship on the 1st of the following month.

Ugh, the pallet was a waste…the sample packets are nothing (I can get those for free at the salon, etc)…the make-up back is just another make-up bag…the hair spray is useful and the mask is nice…but that’s it…

This is the box that made me cancel my subscription.

I was subbed for a long time and I cancelled too. Then I saw this month’s products for curly hair on IG in the tags and was happy I did. Straight hair that can’t hold a curl at all. I love when they did the colored glosses and such, and the shampoo and conditioner sets for redheads we got a couple times, and redhead brow products…but I had enough styling products for years with all the hairspray that I never use. I loved that Virtue frizz cream though, enough to buy more. I realize it’s largely hair products due to the nature of the box, and they were good about sensitive skin products and sunscreen…but quality is slipping a little and less activity on their IG makes me think they might be having some financial or subscriber issues? Idk

Sorry to hear you disliked the August box do much! My September box is a bit late, but that and October box reviews will be coming soon. Maybe those will reignite your interest in the box! 😁

*August box
Reviews on here are two months behind and boxes have been getting better each month. Shipments are priority and usually arrive between the 1st and 3rd, depending on how the week falls, location, etc. November and December are supposed to be really good holiday boxes, for anyone looking to sub. If you go to How to be a RedHead’s Instagram @h2barbox then you get to see everything and spoilers for the coming months – MSA never posts the spoilers, for whatever reason.

Sorry Ashley, you are right, I am behind. But I am working on the September at this time. Bear with me. Thanks for your input on the matter.

No problem. I’m not sure if you’ve seen the potential spoilers on their Instagram, but they may be worth posting. Next month will include a year round fashion accessory and there is a nude lippie coming up in at least one of the boxes.
