Fortune Cookie Soap “I’m Gonna Wreck It” October 2018 Review - Handbook ClosedFortune Cookie Soap “I’m Gonna Wreck It” October 2018 Review - Handbook Opened

This box comes with a mini handbook detailing the products, their prices, how to use it, the unique scent, and ingredients. One thing of note: I have purchased from the Fortune Cookie Soap website several times, and all of the listed prices match up with what I have seen available for sale once the collection becomes available.

Fortune Cookie Soap “I’m Gonna Wreck It” October 2018 Review - The Glitch Cuticle Butter TopFortune Cookie Soap “I’m Gonna Wreck It” October 2018 Review - The Glitch Cuticle Butter Cap Open Top

The Glitch Cuticle Butter, 0.5 oz – Listed Value $9.99

I am pretty rough on my nails and hands, so I am always happy to add a new cuticle butter to the mix. I found this to be very hydrating, but because of that, it needed about 30 seconds or so to absorb. Once it had sunk in I was left with soft and moisturized fingers, and a little bit of this goes a long way so I am stocked up for a while to come. This had a sweet scent of pink sugar with plumeria and candy orange slices, and it really made my fingers smell like I just finished eating candy.

Fortune Cookie Soap “I’m Gonna Wreck It” October 2018 Review - Stay Sweet Milk Shake Bath Milk Packet Top

Stay Sweet Milk Shake Bath Milk, 4 oz – Listed Value $8.99

This bath milk really smelled like a sweet milkshake thanks to notes of strawberries and tart citrus lollipops, and it is made with cocoa and shea butters to hydrate your skin while you soak. I have had some seriously dry legs lately, and this bath milk really helped to hydrate my skin while I was recovering from abdominal surgery (aka, unable to bend over and lotion my own calves).

Fortune Cookie Soap “I’m Gonna Wreck It” October 2018 Review - Bad-Anon Hydrate Me 1Fortune Cookie Soap “I’m Gonna Wreck It” October 2018 Review - Bad-Anon Hydrate Me 2

Bad-Anon Hydrate Me, 3oz - Listed Value $10.99

This is my first experience with the hydrate me stick from Fortune Cookie Soap, but I believe they come out during the cooler months. I was a little confused with the application—it states to rub the conditioning bar all over under running warm water and then massage in, but not to rinse. How do I apply this under running water without it being rinsed away? While I figure out how best to use this hydrating stick of coconut oil and shea butter, I am able to at least enjoy the pleasant scent of wild berries and cream with a touch of cedarwood.

Fortune Cookie Soap “I’m Gonna Wreck It” October 2018 Review - I’m Bad And That’s Good Perfume Oil Front

I’m Bad And That’s Good Perfume Oil, 1 oz – Listed Value $16

This perfume oil has notes of pomegranate and whipped caramel marshmallow, and I was pleasantly surprised that the scent isn’t as sweet as the description sounds. Overall, the scent is well-balanced with the caramel being the main scent without being overly sweet.

Fortune Cookie Soap “I’m Gonna Wreck It” October 2018 Review - Regenerate Body Wash Front

Regenerate Body Wash, 2.1 oz – Listed Value $4.99

This is your basic body wash - nothing too fancy but it gets the job done. I do like the light electric blue color of the body wash, and it left my skin lightly scented with notes of buttermint and caramel.

Fortune Cookie Soap “I’m Gonna Wreck It” October 2018 Review - Sugar Rush Solid Sugar Scrub TopFortune Cookie Soap “I’m Gonna Wreck It” October 2018 Review - Sugar Rush Solid Sugar Scrub Cap Opened Top

Sugar Rush Solid Sugar Scrub, 2 oz – Listed Value $12.99

This container has balls of solid sugar scrubs that look like oversized gumdrops! They are scented with raspberry, lemonade, and bubblegum, and it is a sweet and fun way to exfoliate without drying out your skin.

Fortune Cookie Soap “I’m Gonna Wreck It” October 2018 Review - Lala Laffy Taffy Laundry Detergent Front

Lala Laffy Taffy Laundry Detergent – Listed Value $9.99

This is a brand new Fortune Cookie Soap product, and I am always excited to see new-to-me products in the monthly box, let alone new-to-the-world! This is made with sodium borate, sodium coco-sulfate, sodium carbonate, and fragrance, and the info sheet says this is eco-friendly. I would use this for a light load, but not for my heavy duty clothes washing load. I like the light scent of orange cream salt water taffy, but the scent isn't too noticeable once your clothes are done washing.

The Verdict: Fortune Cookie Soap Box is one of my favorite boxes to receive every month. I love the attention to detail in every aspect of the box, from the product descriptions and the designs of the products to the scents of the products themselves. I had seen Wreck it Ralph only once before, and I think I was able to follow along with the scent names pretty well, which is always nice in themed boxes. This month did have some overwhelming sweet scents—while they smelled nice, I am ready for more fall and winter scents!

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you still sign up today? No. If you sign up today your first box will be the December box (which is “The Winds In The East” themed!) From Fortune Cookie Soap:

The next month's category will be revealed on the 10th of each month. If you don't fancy it, simply log into your FCS account and skip it. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Some people will also use the Hydrate Me completely dry. You just have to give the stick a little bit of time to warm up a bit – I’ll hold the end of the stick against my skin for a 20sec or so in one place so the butters warm up enough before moving it around. Still, a little goes a long way.

As for the themes – they are/were Pop Culture based!! That was the whole point!
FCS often drew inspiration from new/soon-to-be released movies (ex: Reck It Ralph 2, Jurassic World, Avengers, Star Wars, Mary Poppins 2), popular requests from their fans (Labyrinth, Grease, Sailor Moon, Disney Princesses/Villains), or popular fads atm (Unicorns, 80s).
FCS always announced the theme of the boxes before the subscription deadline, & even the scents (in the FCS spoiler group on Facebook: “FCS Underground”).
I always had the mindset that even if I wasn’t the biggest fan of the theme (I mean, it’s just for the labels & names) I may still really like the scents & products!

As for the labels – creating/designing them is a lot of work (I know, I’m a graphic designer) so having 1 uniform label helps, & keeps the collection looking cohesive. IMO the labels have been designed really well!

Now that I’ve said all that – December’s Mary Poppins box is that last of it’s kind.
As of January the FCS box will change. I’m guessing MSA will make a post about it later once FCS has solidified the details a tiny bit more (they’re trying to hammer down the international shipping prices).
But the gist is – smaller box/items, smaller price (as the current price tag for a monthly box was hurting a lot of people).. The new price will be $16.95/month – & that already includes shipping for US residents.

& the Pop Culture themes (unfortunately IMO) are going away, the themes for the new boxes will be a bit more general & the Pop Culture themes will be used for FCS’ “Mini Collections”.

If you are a member of FCS’ VIP group on Facebook then you can find more details on the new box there. If you aren’t a member, you should be XD .. & if you’re not a Facebook person, be sure to be subscribed the the FCS emails from their site as they’ll be releasing all the details of the new box that way as well soon.. Or I may be able to answer some questions here ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I loved this movie and watched it with my kids. I got this box and was hoping for bright, happy labels. I’m kinda bummed it’s just one uniform label on everything but I do love most of their themes. I also wish they would do more gourmand scents.

I have to say that although the products seem nice and smell great, the visual, for me, sucks. It does look like something that would be in a 9 year old boys bathroom. Doesn’t want me to pick up and use at all. I did swap for some items out of the Halloween box and I love and will purchase them but I don’t subscribe because it always looks so unappealing.

Anna

They’re actually about to make changes to their subscription and are announcing tomorrow what they’ll be.

I adore this movie, and these products look great!

Lily

No wonder I didn’t understand the ‘ theme”. Was from an animated movie from 2012.
If that’s not tacky and obscure, I don’t know what is.

Reply ButtonReply

Kim

The sequel to that movie is coming out really soon, so not exactly obscure.

Not going to speak to the tacky thing since the themes usually are, it’s kind of the point imo

I use the hydrate me stick as an in-shower moisturizer, so while still wet before getting out. And I LOVE the detergent. I’ve used it for my normal laundry and it works great. I didn’t notice much scent when I pulled clothes out of the washer, but once dried the scent came back. Big fan, and would be interested in purchasing more. Or at least making my own

Jackie

Yes, that’s how I use the hydrate me sticks as well! I was just coming down to the comments to say that. They pack a nice bit of moisture.

My roommate uses them dry all the time on her eczema and says they help a lot.

JennR

I was wondering what the heck that theme was. One of the things that keeps me from subscribing is that often I just don’t get the themes all the time. That speaks more to my lack of cultural references than anything else, lol.

Reply ButtonReply

Lily

I didn’t see and have no interest to see the movie referenced. so I skipped and got two ” Snap! Snap!” Halloween boxes instead.

I’m trying to be positive here because the products look FINE and you say they smell nice, but gosh, I am SO SICK of what looks like logos for children. I have no clue what this movie was, but it was NOT a hit in my area of the country. LOL.

I’m so into Margot Elena,I have 2 subscriptions but they don’t have the same types of bath products,of course. Years ago, this sub used to have the cutest boxes but now they are for a 10 year old BOY as far as theme and label ” sophistication level”.

I’d love an Outlander box!! More than anything else, I’d love a box curated to the Scottish HIghlands and the English countryside, in whatever century. 🙂

Would YOU like an Outlander themed box? If so, please tell them on Facebook.

JennR

I tried to read the first Outlander book and couldn’t get into it. I’d like to see them do more general themes that don’t revolve around only one movie, book, etc.

Reply ButtonReply

Lily

Wow, ” Outlander is fabulous!! The book series of “Outlander” was turned into an award- winning TV drama on STARZ. I don’t know how anyone could miss the beauty of the ads everywhere and the great accolades.
Season 4 starts on November 4. I can hardly wait!! ( and I know exactly what happens from the books). The actor playing Jamie is so handsome, and the actress playing Claire is fabulous.

The books are among my favorites EVER because of the wealth of historical details and all the time travel.

If FCS does general themes, I hope they leave out robotic creatures, cartoons, and ” boy themes”.

Lee

Yeah… I’ve been to the Scottish countryside and it smells like most countrysides… cow. I’d take Wreck it Ralph over cow.

Wreck it Ralph. It was a really fun movie
