October 2018 Boyxcharm Beauty Tutorial

this month’s Boxycharm theme is Alter EGO and It demands attention. The women they chose to model this month look in full control and drop dead gorgeous in their black and white attire! It's the perfect theme for this time of year, and I can't wait to jump right in and get started!

Here are the contents of this months box:

Our first product in this months box is the Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair! Leave-In MaskI live in Texas and one thing we're used to is heat! Due to the extreme heat, sometimes our skin and hair will suffer from time to time. I was pretty impressed to see a product for hair this month. I'm very familiar with the Briogeo brand and love their products. Briogeo's Don't Despair Repair Strength + moisture leave -in mask is designed to fully restore dry and damaged hair. It's made for all hair types whether your hair is natural or chemically treated like mines, not to mention it smells amazing. After washing and curling my hair I sprayed it with this Briogeo leave in conditioner  and I  just love how full of life it looks, smells and feels! This is one of those products that I probably would never purchase for myself but I'm so glad to have it. Good choice Boxycharm!

With as much makeup as I wear, my skin needs all the help it can get. So I love to treat myself to a nice face mask at the end of every week. There are so many different face masks to choose from out there and I have tried hundreds  but I've never seen one with black lace! TheDermovia Lace A Peel Bamboo Charcoal Sheet Mask (a mouth full lol) is definitely one of a kind. The claims say that this mask is for detoxifying your skin using bamboo charcoal. I have used charcoal to cleanse my face before, so I know it works great for removing deep down dirt while cleansing the pores. The natural peel paste is supposed to help to draw out any impurities there may be on your face, so I can't wait to see how well it works. After carefully reading the directions I cleansed and dried my face. Then I applied an even layer of the peel paste avoiding my eye area.  It's a very dark black sticky paste that has a very strong Citrus like smell. I found that It goes on a bit easier if you wet your finger tips.

After putting the black paste on, I grabbed the black lace mask and lined up the holes with my eyes and nose, pressing it firmly into place. You don't have to worry about the lace staying in place because the paste is super sticky, however there are ear slits to help you secure it  more easily. I wore the mask for the full 20 minutes the product suggest and It quickly began to tighten up on my face. When I could no longer make face expressions, I knew it was time to rinse it off. (Lol) I feel like I'm at a spa in my own bathroom, and besides the tight feeling and strong smell it's really pleasant to wear.

Wow! After I rinsed it off with warm water and completely patted my face dry, I can feel how amazingly refreshed my face felt! I can really feel the Aloe Vera on my skin making it really soft. I really enjoyed and needed this face mask. I'm so glad there are two because I will certainly be using it again!

When I first  laid eyes on this 10 piece limited edition PUR Midnight Masquerade Palette, I was super impressed with the color variations they chose. It's not too bold and is a great starter palette for those who want to start adding more color to their everyday eye look. This palette has four face powders on one side and six Eyeshadow shades on the other. I don't think I have ever come across a eyeshadow palette that has Energy Complex of ginseng, vitamin B and green tea within its components. Just by swatching the colors I can tell right away how highly pigmented they are, and I can hardly wait to jump right in and play with these fun shades.

Since most of the shades have glitter, I thought It would be fun to go with an October theme and create a look you can wear to any fall function or Halloween party. I have to be careful with these colors because I don't want to accidentally look like I visited the 80's lol, so with that said, let's get started!

First I used Eyeshadow Primer because I wanted these colors to really show up and stand out. I used a medium brush and put the color Sneak Peak all over my lid. It's the only Matte shade among the six so I'll be using it as my transition shade, a base to build my other colors on.

Here is how the color Sneak Peek looks alone.

Then I wet a much smaller brush and used the color Showtime only on my lids. I love how this blue metallic color comes to life on my brown skin.

Here is how the blue looks on my lids. Wetting my brush really helped this color to stand out.

Next, I took the gorgeous gold color Mask Off and swept it all over my crease stopping right below my brow bone.

Here are those colors together, there is some fallout but not much.

Then I took the color 12 Am and placed that in my outer V area in circular motions.

To finalize this fun look I also added Disguise to my tear ducts. The shades were very buildable and blend effortlessly. I will be using the other side of this lovely Palette later to complete my look.

Here is a head on picture of all five shades together. I truly believe that if you carefully choose your colors, finishes and placement, you don't have to be afraid to use more than three eyeshadow colors. Finding what colors best suite you and your skin tone can be both challenging and fun!

After applying some black eyeliner and filling in my brows I reached for our next product. I can't tell you how excited I was to see the IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara. About two months ago I went into Sephora with very limited funds and ended up buying this in a sample size. Well, long story short I absolutely fell in love with it and knew I was most definitely going to purchase the full size ASAP, so to see a full size in this month's box has me on cloud nine! Thank you Boxycharm!!!
The reason I love it so much is because it adds so much volume and length to my stubby short lashes with just one coat! The brand says that this mascara is skincare for your lashes, and they are so right!  They actually used certified plastic surgeons to create this product using an Elastic Stretch Technology that stretches the look of your lashes making them appear wider and much longer than they actually are. Leave it to IT Cosmetics to go above and beyond! It literally wraps each individual lash with an ultra-conditioning formula and is the perfect midnight black color. As a stay at home mom of a very busy one-year-old, I don't always have the time to put on lashes and wait for glue to dry, so this product is perfect for me. The name SuperHero suites this product perfectly! I only used one coat, making sure to apply a thicker coat of mascara at the root of my lashes and a lighter layer toward the ends. I do this by wiggling my wand back and forth at the base, and then lightly combing through to the tips. This also helps in preventing clumps. I love how natural they look.

After adding my foundation, now it's time to explore the other side of our PUR Midnight Masquerade Palette. There are four beautiful large pans to play with. I used a medium sized blush brush and added the color Reveal to my cheekbones and used the color Enchantment as my highlight.

I love how well these two blended into my skin, giving me just a subtle glow. Use a light hand when exploring this palette because they are very buttery and highly pigmented.

Now it's time to use our final product. I'm very familiar with the Kat Von D brand because it's so popular. However, I'm sad to say that I own absolutely nothing by this brand, So I'm happy it's in this months box. This particular formula is supposed to be long lasting, high in pigment, and in a creamy rich formula. All those things sound great but let's be honest, we never really know until we test it out for ourselves. There are 42 gorgeous shades to choose from and I received the shade Bow and Arrow. I can honestly say that this color is not for me. I'm so sad to say this because it feels really lightweight on my lips and went on very smooth and almost effortless. I'm sure that is due to the vitamin E and sunflower seed that it's infused with. I love how it dries down into this beautiful matte finish. I think this is definitely something I would love to have in a different shade. The first photo is the lip product alone and as you can see it doesn't look as good as I would like.

This is the lip liner from MAC cosmetics in the color Currant. It's a deep red berry color. I used it to first line the outside and inner corners of my lips, then I added the KAT VON D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick color Bow and Arrow in the center. I will let you guys choose which lip look you like best. However, this completes my look for this month and I really hope you enjoyed the process!

Verdict: Wow, I must say that I am very impressed with the products in this month's Boxycharm! From hair products to lace face masks I really think they put a lot into this months box selection. I would love to know what you think and what your favorite item was.

I am addicted to subscription boxes for so many reasons. For one I simply love the element of surprise that each month brings, whether its beauty, skin care or anything else. I love the opportunity of trying out new products every month without having to commit to the full purchase. My favorite boxes are Boxycharm, Popsugar, and any Mommy and baby boxes. I am a brand new mother and I love trying out new things for my baby and I love how they always have something special for mommy!

Hey Dezi!💟
Did u get a chance to try the lace mask a 2nd time? I heard it was super painful to take off… I haven’t used mine yet…😯😦
I absolutely love your tutorials! Its nice to see a regular woman try out these products & give honest reviews💗! I’m always weary to trust the YouTube tutorials and reviews because the majority of those girls get the box for free or get paid for their reviews.
Awesome job babe-👏👏😊. You look wonderful 😄💞

I love how you did your review, describing exactly how and where you used all the products! So helpful and they all looked great on you! As far as the KVD lippie, I feel like EVERYONE got a different color than they wanted. I wanted the nude and got a bright dusty pink (Mother) that looks really odd with my skin tone. Oh well. Maybe I’ll try to trade with someone. Beautiful look though, Desi!

Desi, you always rock everything you show us. I’m so happy you used the Reveal color. I wanted to see the color and formula at work. I agree with you about the Bow & Arrow – not your color, on its own. It looks really nice with the lip liner you added. I would have liked to have seen the K-Dub on you. I’d wager that would look fabulous on you. I hope you get your hands on one of KVD’s lippies. Her matte liquids are in my Top 5 for formula and wear. I think there are quite a few in the Swaps, you should check it out!

I have been looking for the perfect post hair-dry leave-in conditioner/smoother/shine booster product. Your hair looks great, but now I need to go back and look at your other reviews to see the difference between using the Briogeo and not.

Really enjoyed the review, thank you! You look amazing and I’m excited to try my lace a peel mask out especially since the dermovia brand was endorsed by Sandra Lee (Dr.Pimple popper) my favorite lady on yt and she has a new show on tlc.
I wanted to try the briogeo but received the green clean instead,at first I was mildly disappointed but,the green clean is amazing!
It just melts the makeup off so I can play with anything I want and not have to worry about how I’m going to get it off.

Dezi

Wait! Really that Dr. Pimples line? Wow I had no clue. A lot of people can watch that show but I’m too grossed out, don’t get me wrong I love messing with a good pimple every once and a while but that show goes too far for meLOL

Dusting a little bit of any of these face powders over your KVD lip color will make it transform. I received the Barbie fuschia color KDub, which is horrid on my fair skin, and it looks completely wearable after adding a dusting of highlight. It turned the fuschia into a rose gold with the copper shade. I’m going to play around with different pallettes to find the best match.

I love your reviews, btw 🙂

Thank You for the great review- you’re looking pretty fierce with all that great makeup on!

I love my items this month- particularly the pallet- probably the best PUR collection I’ve ever received- I’m having loads of fun trying all the different shades. I received a different lippie shade tho- it’s a vivid pink called K Dub that may be outside my comfort zone, but you never know. I’ll wear it out a few times and maybe I’ll love it. I’m so glad I didn’t get another nudie nuetral tho- I’m on overload with those!

Keep up the good work!

That was a great review, I got the same products in mine, and loved seeing the way you used them. Boxycharm has the best products of all of them, over the last 5 yrs or so, I have quite a nice palette collection! I do use some of IT cosmetics, she does have some nice products, I love her concealer/brightener around my eyes, mascara is great! Only disappointment was the KVD liquid lipstick. The bow and arrow (nude) color doesn’t work for me! I order a few Beauty boxes every month, and they all seem to want to give me, nude shades, oh well, maybe I’ll be luckier next time.

Dezi

I feel the same exact way

Desiree, I think that the KVD Lippie (Bow & Arrow) looks very pretty on you, at least in the photos. Maybe you should give it a try.

Dezi

Thanks!

Becka

I agree! I got Bow n Arrow, too, but it looks SO muddy on my lips. Good thing my best friend loves that shade!

Reply ButtonReply

Dezi

Yeah I think they send lots of nude colors thinking it will look good on most but some nude colors wash me out.

Chan

Ummm I think the mask is supposed to be a peel off. Otherwise it defeats the whole purpose of using the lace.

Reply ButtonReply

Dezi

Ok wow! I just looked at it again and you guys are soooo right! LOL leave it to me to do it all wrong! No wonder it felt a little weird lol

Reply ButtonReply

Toni

Yessss the reason I was wondering about the mask is beyny daughter used hers and it was super painful to take off. Her friend had the same experience

Gorgeous look. I am super excited qbout the mascara. I feel so lucky to not be waitlisted after skipping September. This box seems amazing in all variations!!! I do wonder if you think the lace part of the mask is reusable. I love it hooks over the ears. Maybe because I stepped out last month , but Boxy outdid themselves for me… great tutorial.

Dezi

Thanks, Wow do they still have a wait list???? I’m glad you enjoyed it as well as I did.
