October 2018 Boyxcharm Beauty Tutorial
this month’s Boxycharm theme is Alter EGO and It demands attention. The women they chose to model this month look in full control and drop dead gorgeous in their black and white attire! It's the perfect theme for this time of year, and I can't wait to jump right in and get started!
Here are the contents of this months box:
- IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara
- Dermovia Lace A Peel Bamboo Charcoal Sheet Mask
- PUR Midnight Masquerade Palette
- KAT VON D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick
- Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair! Leave-In Mask
Our first product in this months box is the Briogeo Don’t Despair Repair! Leave-In Mask. I live in Texas and one thing we're used to is heat! Due to the extreme heat, sometimes our skin and hair will suffer from time to time. I was pretty impressed to see a product for hair this month. I'm very familiar with the Briogeo brand and love their products. Briogeo's Don't Despair Repair Strength + moisture leave -in mask is designed to fully restore dry and damaged hair. It's made for all hair types whether your hair is natural or chemically treated like mines, not to mention it smells amazing. After washing and curling my hair I sprayed it with this Briogeo leave in conditioner and I just love how full of life it looks, smells and feels! This is one of those products that I probably would never purchase for myself but I'm so glad to have it. Good choice Boxycharm!
With as much makeup as I wear, my skin needs all the help it can get. So I love to treat myself to a nice face mask at the end of every week. There are so many different face masks to choose from out there and I have tried hundreds but I've never seen one with black lace! TheDermovia Lace A Peel Bamboo Charcoal Sheet Mask (a mouth full lol) is definitely one of a kind. The claims say that this mask is for detoxifying your skin using bamboo charcoal. I have used charcoal to cleanse my face before, so I know it works great for removing deep down dirt while cleansing the pores. The natural peel paste is supposed to help to draw out any impurities there may be on your face, so I can't wait to see how well it works. After carefully reading the directions I cleansed and dried my face. Then I applied an even layer of the peel paste avoiding my eye area. It's a very dark black sticky paste that has a very strong Citrus like smell. I found that It goes on a bit easier if you wet your finger tips.
After putting the black paste on, I grabbed the black lace mask and lined up the holes with my eyes and nose, pressing it firmly into place. You don't have to worry about the lace staying in place because the paste is super sticky, however there are ear slits to help you secure it more easily. I wore the mask for the full 20 minutes the product suggest and It quickly began to tighten up on my face. When I could no longer make face expressions, I knew it was time to rinse it off. (Lol) I feel like I'm at a spa in my own bathroom, and besides the tight feeling and strong smell it's really pleasant to wear.
Wow! After I rinsed it off with warm water and completely patted my face dry, I can feel how amazingly refreshed my face felt! I can really feel the Aloe Vera on my skin making it really soft. I really enjoyed and needed this face mask. I'm so glad there are two because I will certainly be using it again!
When I first laid eyes on this 10 piece limited edition PUR Midnight Masquerade Palette, I was super impressed with the color variations they chose. It's not too bold and is a great starter palette for those who want to start adding more color to their everyday eye look. This palette has four face powders on one side and six Eyeshadow shades on the other. I don't think I have ever come across a eyeshadow palette that has Energy Complex of ginseng, vitamin B and green tea within its components. Just by swatching the colors I can tell right away how highly pigmented they are, and I can hardly wait to jump right in and play with these fun shades.
Since most of the shades have glitter, I thought It would be fun to go with an October theme and create a look you can wear to any fall function or Halloween party. I have to be careful with these colors because I don't want to accidentally look like I visited the 80's lol, so with that said, let's get started!
First I used Eyeshadow Primer because I wanted these colors to really show up and stand out. I used a medium brush and put the color Sneak Peak all over my lid. It's the only Matte shade among the six so I'll be using it as my transition shade, a base to build my other colors on.
Here is how the color Sneak Peek looks alone.
Then I wet a much smaller brush and used the color Showtime only on my lids. I love how this blue metallic color comes to life on my brown skin.
Here is how the blue looks on my lids. Wetting my brush really helped this color to stand out.
Next, I took the gorgeous gold color Mask Off and swept it all over my crease stopping right below my brow bone.
Here are those colors together, there is some fallout but not much.
Then I took the color 12 Am and placed that in my outer V area in circular motions.
To finalize this fun look I also added Disguise to my tear ducts. The shades were very buildable and blend effortlessly. I will be using the other side of this lovely Palette later to complete my look.
Here is a head on picture of all five shades together. I truly believe that if you carefully choose your colors, finishes and placement, you don't have to be afraid to use more than three eyeshadow colors. Finding what colors best suite you and your skin tone can be both challenging and fun!
After applying some black eyeliner and filling in my brows I reached for our next product. I can't tell you how excited I was to see the IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara. About two months ago I went into Sephora with very limited funds and ended up buying this in a sample size. Well, long story short I absolutely fell in love with it and knew I was most definitely going to purchase the full size ASAP, so to see a full size in this month's box has me on cloud nine! Thank you Boxycharm!!!
The reason I love it so much is because it adds so much volume and length to my stubby short lashes with just one coat! The brand says that this mascara is skincare for your lashes, and they are so right! They actually used certified plastic surgeons to create this product using an Elastic Stretch Technology that stretches the look of your lashes making them appear wider and much longer than they actually are. Leave it to IT Cosmetics to go above and beyond! It literally wraps each individual lash with an ultra-conditioning formula and is the perfect midnight black color. As a stay at home mom of a very busy one-year-old, I don't always have the time to put on lashes and wait for glue to dry, so this product is perfect for me. The name SuperHero suites this product perfectly! I only used one coat, making sure to apply a thicker coat of mascara at the root of my lashes and a lighter layer toward the ends. I do this by wiggling my wand back and forth at the base, and then lightly combing through to the tips. This also helps in preventing clumps. I love how natural they look.
After adding my foundation, now it's time to explore the other side of our PUR Midnight Masquerade Palette. There are four beautiful large pans to play with. I used a medium sized blush brush and added the color Reveal to my cheekbones and used the color Enchantment as my highlight.
I love how well these two blended into my skin, giving me just a subtle glow. Use a light hand when exploring this palette because they are very buttery and highly pigmented.
Now it's time to use our final product. I'm very familiar with the Kat Von D brand because it's so popular. However, I'm sad to say that I own absolutely nothing by this brand, So I'm happy it's in this months box. This particular formula is supposed to be long lasting, high in pigment, and in a creamy rich formula. All those things sound great but let's be honest, we never really know until we test it out for ourselves. There are 42 gorgeous shades to choose from and I received the shade Bow and Arrow. I can honestly say that this color is not for me. I'm so sad to say this because it feels really lightweight on my lips and went on very smooth and almost effortless. I'm sure that is due to the vitamin E and sunflower seed that it's infused with. I love how it dries down into this beautiful matte finish. I think this is definitely something I would love to have in a different shade. The first photo is the lip product alone and as you can see it doesn't look as good as I would like.
This is the lip liner from MAC cosmetics in the color Currant. It's a deep red berry color. I used it to first line the outside and inner corners of my lips, then I added the KAT VON D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick color Bow and Arrow in the center. I will let you guys choose which lip look you like best. However, this completes my look for this month and I really hope you enjoyed the process!
Verdict: Wow, I must say that I am very impressed with the products in this month's Boxycharm! From hair products to lace face masks I really think they put a lot into this months box selection. I would love to know what you think and what your favorite item was.
