Birchbox Sample Box October 2018 Review
This is our second Sample Box review - we wanted to give our readers a sense for different products that were available in this month's sample box!

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included and some tips on how to use them.

Now on to the items!

MALIN+GOETZ vitamin e face moisturizer, 0.5 fl oz - Estimated Value $6.25 (buy an 4 oz. bottle for $50)
This MALIN+GOETZ vitamin e face moisturizer has a really nice texture and a lovely scent of chamomile. It wasn't too thick and I could feel it seeping into my skin immediately after I put it on. I read that vitamin E is a known antioxidant that helps to soothe and calm the skin. After a few hours my face still feels really soft and is less red than usual, so I think the intended impact of this moisturizer worked on my skin!

Winky Lux Strobing Balm Cream Highlighter, 10 g - Estimated Value $8.32 (buy a .11 oz pan for $16.00)
I was really excited to try this highlighter because I've only used dry-powder highlighters up until this point. The creamy texture made it really easy to spread, and I could just use the tips of my finger to apply it. I put the highlighter on the top of my cheekbones and under my brow line. I love the color, it adds a natural sheen to my skin and I would totally use it in the day or night.

Air Repair Protect + Prevent Hydrating Face Serum, .14 fl oz - Estimated Value $3.64 (buy a 1 oz. bottle for $26)
When I squeezed this on my hand the first thing I noticed was how good it smells! It's a subtle scent that reminds me of clean laundry and the woods. The texture of the liquid is in between a liquid serum and a heavier lotion, so it spreads evenly without feeling sticky or oily afterward. My fingers feel smoothe, I think this will be really helpful for the winter season to throw in my purse when I'm on the go.

Murad® Clarifying Cleanser, .24 oz - Estimated Value $6 (buy a 1.4 0z. tube for $35)
Even though I don't typically battle with acne, this cleanser did leave my skin feeling a nice tingly clean afterward, which is a sensation I personally love. The primary ingredient in it that prevents acne is Salicylic Acid, which can be harsh, but the cleanser combats redness from that with black cohosh and green tea extract. I didn't have any issues with redness today, and my face has felt clean all day!

amika The Kure Repair Shampoo, .67 fl. oz - Estimated Value $1.47 (buy a full-size 10 oz for $22)
This shampoo was really thick and I was able to make a small amount go a long way (I'd anticipate I could get 3-4 uses in with this bottle) which is really nice with a sample size. The shampoo smells amazing - I have been enjoying the scent of my own hair throughout the day. This shampoo is reparative with cleansing oils, so it doesn't have harsh chemicals, and I could definitely feel it- my hair was soft but clean after I washed it out.

amika The Kure Repair Conditioner, .5 fl. oz - Estimated Value $1.30 (buy a full-size 8.5 oz for $22)
Just like the shampoo - this conditioner is very viscous so I think I could get a lot of use out of the sample. It felt almost like a mask while I was wearing it, and I could tell there was some intense hydration happening while I was using it. After using the conditioner (and the shampoo above) I felt like my hair was extra soft today and smelled amazing.
Verdict: I really liked my Birchbox this month! There were a lot of skin & hair care items that felt like the perfect products for the onset of the dry, cold season ahead. The estimated value total adds up to $26.98 - a good value from a $10 sample box!
