Sooni Pouch August 2018 Review

On the other side of the info card is a note that my pouch was prepared by Crystal!

Here is the info sheet for the box. There was a lot of overlap between the Sooni Mini Pouch and the Sooni Pouch. First up, let’s look at all of the items that came in both boxes.

Orsheare Turn-up Intensive Eye Cream, 0.85 oz

Orsheare Turn-up Intensive Eye Cream, 0.85 oz

Because I couldn’t find this from a reputable US seller online it was hard to find information on this eye cream. Based on my research, this plant-based eye cream has hyaluronic acid in it to be both gentle and hydrating on your delicate eye area. I found this to be very gentle and hydrating, it didn’t irritate my occasionally sensitive eyes, and it was unscented. Based on this I’m going to keep using it for preventative measures, as I currently don’t have wrinkles or dark circles around my eyes.

Sooni & Tommi Fragrance & Body Oil, 0.27 oz

Sooni & Tommi Fragrance & Body Oil, 0.27 oz

I *think* this fragrance is a collaboration between Sooni Pouch and a Korean fragrance brand called Tommi. I cannot find information on this anywhere! I will say that this smells delicious and sophisticated. I can’t pin my finger on the exact fragrance, but it definitely smells similar to some of the designer perfumes you can buy from Sephora. The rollerball worked well to deposit the fragrance on my pulse points, and the fragrance lasted for most of the day.

Foodaholic Soothing Aloe Vera Gel, 300 mL

Foodaholic Soothing Aloe Vera Gel, 300 mL – Estimated Value $14

I couldn’t find this from a reputable seller online, so I based the estimated value off of the prices I did see combined with what I would reasonably pay. This aloe vera gel is 99% pure aloe vera (and I imagine the other 1% is an ingredient that preserves it and helps it be shelf-stable). Aloe Vera grew everywhere where I grew up in Arizona, so I could literally walk outside, break off a leaf, and have fresh aloe vera for sunburns or pimples. This has a really similar texture to the fresh stuff, and it is unscented. Aloe vera is good for the well-known ailments like sunburns and acne, but it is also good as an after-shave gel to prevent ingrown hairs. This is a pretty generous-sized tub, so this should last me a long while.

Etude House Moistfull Collagen Toner, 0.16 oz

Etude House Moistfull Collagen Toner, 0.16 oz – Estimated Value $0.36 (buy the 6.76 oz version for $15)

I believe the two etude house vials are the “deluxe sample skincare set” that comes in every mini pouch. This toner is designed to hydrate your skin without messing with your skins pH balance, so this should work for both dry and oily skin. I found this to be very gentle but it didn’t fit with my skincare concerns. Even though this sample is small, a little bit does go a long way so this should last for at least a week.

Etude House Moistfull Collagen Emulsion, 0.16 oz – Estimated Value $0.39 (buy the 6.09 oz version for $15)

This emulsion is supposed to be the last step in your skincare routine at night and it is designed to hold in all the moisture in the products you applied prior to your routine. This absorbed quickly and left my skin feeling a bit dewy. Like the toner, this sample should last me at least a week.

A’Pieu Coffee Milk Face Mask

A’Pieu Coffee Milk Face Mask – Retail Value $2

I was excited to see this because I know Laine is a big fan based on her Piibu reviews! This sheet mask really does smell like coffee, and I liked how it stretched a bit to fit my face and all the nooks and crannies. This did seem to be a bit on the dry side compared to other sheet masks, but that made it really comfortable to not have to worry about it dripping down my face.

A’Pieu Tint Remover – Buy the full-size version for $5.50

This tint remover is designed to help remove lip tints that aren’t budging. I don’t currently use any lip tints, but I am going to save this single-use sample for the next time I wear red lipstick.

Now let’s look at the additional items that come only in the Sooni Pouch Box:

TonyMoly Eye Tone Single Shadow in Cigar Toast, 1.7 g

TonyMoly Eye Tone Single Shadow in Cigar Toast, 1.7 g - Retail Value $8.99

I am never going to say no to a new gorgeous brown shimmer eyeshadow, regardless of how many I already own. This applied smoothly and the formula is velvet-soft, but it definitely needs an eyeshadow primer to help it last.

Here it is swatched.

DLA Bifida Overnight Ampoule, 1 oz

DLA Bifida Overnight Ampoule, 1 oz – Retail Value $27.22 (30,600 won)

Getting ampoules like this one are one of my favorite things about receiving K-Beauty boxes! This formula is essentially like a thick water that packs the hydration into my skin, but it is super lightweight and absorbs easily. It does leave my face a tad sticky after applying, but that is easily solved by following with my moisturizer.

Etude House Sun Lotion – Buy the full-size version for $12.40

Etude House is a classic K-Beauty brand, and this sun lotion was a winner. It is made with aloe vera, bamboo, and chamomile, and it gives skin a matte finish so this is a good sunscreen option to wear under makeup.

Steam 107 Snail Essential Mask

Steam 107 Snail Essential Mask

Snail essence is a surprisingly common ingredient in Korean skincare, but other than the name there isn’t anything that distinctly makes this a ~snail~ mask. It was unscented and hydrating without being irritating to my eyes or being too drippy from the essence.

Shelim Ultra Hydrating Essence Mask in Cucumber

Shelim Ultra Hydrating Essence Mask in Cucumber

There isn't really a lot of information about these masks online, so I had to do some sleuthing and combine various resources. From what I can tell, this cucumber mask is designed to soothe skin from sunburn and help skin glow. I definitely found it to be soothing, but I didn't think my face glowed any extra after 20 minutes of using this mask.

Shelim Ultra Hydrating Essence Mask in Green Tea

Shelim Ultra Hydrating Essence Mask in Green Tea

From what I can find online, the green tea mask is designed for acne-prone skin. What’s interesting about these masks is they actually have the eye flaps that you can use to cover your eyes when you’re masking, which isn’t something I really see in other sheet masks. I have had a few too many instances of sheet mask essence getting into my eyes, so I left those eye covers flipped up when I used this.

The Verdict: Like the Sooni Mini Pouch, many of the items included in this  Sooni Pouch box couldn’t be found from a reliable online retailer (though again that could just be because these are what’s popular inside Korea and not American-Korea). This box promises a value of over $100, and I cannot accurately say if the total value of everything in the box meets that value. What I can say is that the values I did find added up to $38.96, which is more than the cost of the box. Considering this box costs $35.99 including free shipping and I received 13 items, including multiple full-size skincare products, overall this is a fun box. I would like to see more well-known brands included in the future, but I am looking forward to next month’s box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? No, I believe September boxes are now shipping.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $35.99 + free US shipping, which means that each of the 12 items in the box (not including the single-use foil packet) has an average cost of $3.
