Orglamix August 2018 Box

Orglamix is a vegan and cruelty-free beauty subscription containing loose shadows, glitter pigments, aromatherapy roll-ons, and more. Many of the items in the subscription will be unique to the subscription and not available in the Orglamix shop (although they will have the same great formula). In addition to the $34.95 a month Beauty Box, Orglamix also offers an Eyeshow Edit box for $21.95 a month.

Orglamix August 2018 Inside

This is a review of the Orglamix Beauty Box.

They are now doing custom box prints every month and they’re quite pretty.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Orglamix August 2018 “Gemstone” Review

This month’s theme is “Gemstone.” Let’s see how Orglamix incorporated that theme into the month’s items:

Orglamix August 2018 Booklet 1 Orglamix August 2018 Booklet 2 Orglamix August 2018 Booklet 3

The box came with an information card detailing the items and theme for August. It also lists ingredients, which is nice since these items aren’t typically available in their online shop.

Orglamix August 2018 Roller

Jade Facial Roller – Listed Value $21

A lot of times, Orglamix will include one tool (maybe a brush, or a facial cleansing mitt, or even an aromatherapy necklace). This month it is a jade facial roller. You will notice this has two ends so you can tackle smaller parts of the face as well as larger ones. I have never owned one of these before. You can use them with facial oils to help them move across the skin and it is supposed to help the oils absorb better. Handily, there was a facial oil in this box (see below) and although I can’t say at this point whether I think the oil absorbs better with or without the roller (need a few more trials first), the little roller massage felt nice enough and was relaxing.

Orglamix August 2018 Oil

Citrine Facial Oil – Listed Value $38

This is nice paired with the facial roller or used on its own. (I feel like the roller does take some time so if you are in a hurry, you don’t absolutely have to use it.) I have discovered I can, in fact, use facial oils as long as I exfoliate regularly, even though I have somewhat oily skin. This will last a long time as you only need a few drops at once, and it has a pleasant, vaguely floral scent on my skin (though I would not call it a perfume).

Orglamix August 2018 Shadow

Rose Quartz Natural Eyeshadow – Listed Value $12.50

Every month (pretty much), you’ll get at least one exclusive shade of loose mineral pigment eyeshadow. This isn’t particularly bold as the colors of these shadows go, but it is definitely wearable for me (I tend to play it safe with eyeshadow). These shadows last a long time for me over primer (I use the Urban Decay primer potion) and blend well, also.

Here is a swatch of the eyeshadow.

Orglamix August 2018 Sunstone

Sunstone Exfoliating Neck + Décolleté – Listed Value $9

Well, I have to admit, I don’t pay a ton of attention to my skin in this area. I’ve put this in my shower as I’m not sure how easy it is to exfoliate the neck and such over the sink. I am spacing my use of this product out since the skin of my neck area is delicate (I scrub the heck out of my face so I am used to that, but I don’t usually use exfoliators on the neck, so I have to work up to it). So far I can say this does not irritate my skin (I have pretty sensitive skin so this is a big deal) and I’m excited to continue using it and will definitely be monitoring the appearance of my neck in the mirror as time goes by.

Orglamix August 2018 Bottle 1

Crystal Gemstone Apothecary Bottle – Listed Value $7

I was confused by this item at first. When I was working on my Ph.D., I had quartz test tubes that looked this clear (I used them to block certain wavelengths of UV light but let others pass through into my reactions), and the tag said clear quartz, so at first, I thought the bottle was made of quartz. But that didn’t make sense after reading the information card, which talked about the bottle being full.

Orglamix August 2018 Bottle 2

Well, as you can see, the bottle I received was broken. After reading the information card, I dug the packing material out of the box and found these guys (this is not all of them but I didn’t accidentally want to pick up a piece of the broken bottle):

Orglamix August 2018 Crystals

So I guess the bottle was full of small bits of rock crystal. Anyway, the description on the information card includes the following text:

“Crystals have the tremendous ability to store, transmit, and transform energy which is equally critical in the pursuit of wellness, health, and deep spirituality.”

I am going to be honest with you, I have a strong background in science and I do not use crystals nor do I believe this statement. I don’t really have any advice about using these because it’s not something I do, but if you are into crystals you will probably already have your own practices in place, and these are small and could be used discreetly if you don’t want to call attention to yourself. (If you are not into crystals, just know that this is an unusual item for this subscription and also only a small fraction of the overall value of the box.) If this is an item you are interested in and intend to carry it with you, I would definitely recommend some good padding because you saw the amount of packing material in an earlier picture and that the glass still managed to break.

At any rate, although Orglamix is really quick about sending replacement items, I did not request a replacement for this because it is not something I can or would use.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $87.50 for the August Orglamix subscription box. The items this month were all exclusive for this box, so I had to rely a lot on the information card, but I think the values were relatively close to those of similar items in the shop.  This box was a bit unusual in including both the facial roller and the bottle of quartz, but they do both fit the gemstone theme, and the roller, at least, is a useful and fun item to try out.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this was August's box and they say they ship around the 10th (in practice, it may be a week or two after that before the box actually ships), so you’d probably get the September box as your first one.

  • Jade Roller: $8.39
  • Facial Oil: $15.18
  • Eyeshadow: $4.99
  • Neck Exfoliant: $3.59
  • Bottle of Crystals: $2.80

The facial roller is $2.47 on AliExpress

There are a lot of facial rollers on Ali Express, but we don’t use that site as a source because there is a lot of intellectual property theft there, including of the pictures posted with the items, and what you end up getting (after waiting up to six weeks for it to arrive, in many cases) does not always look like the photos.
