Mommy Mailbox September 2018 “Le Francais” Review

Each box comes with a card detailing the month’s products and brands. The theme this month is “Le Francais” and the box was curated by featured blogger, Sophie Ogresse.

Bellapierre Cosmetics Mascara in Black, Full Size! – Retail Value $20

While this is not the best mascara formula I have tried, I was still pleasantly surprised! It came out nice and clean and with such a thin wand, I was able to get an even coating over my lashes. This is not a super thick formula, so this is a great mascara for every day when I’m just running a quick errand and don’t need a dramatic look. I’m always happy to have an extra full-size mascara, especially one from this French-named brand that specializes in natural, mineral makeup.

This is two thin coats of the mascara. It seemed to last from afternoon through evening and I didn’t experience any flaking.

Soleil Designs Scarf – Retail Value $35

I love this color! This is the perfect fall scarf and will even be nice into winter since it has a hint of green to it. This is just your basic polyester scarf, lightweight and easy to wear with any outfit. I like that they are still keeping with the theme in the name of the brand, Soleil Designs, and that this is handmade in Southern California.

I did notice that mine has a tear on one side and I am really hoping that mine is the only one! If this happens to you, don’t hesitate to reach out to customer service as they assured us that they would send a replacement right away.

Luckily, the placement of the tear is near the fringe and I almost thought it was intentional at first. I don’t think it’s noticeable at all when the scarf is on.

Sailor Paper Company Pairs Coasters, Set of 6 – Retail Value $8.95

These thick paper coasters are such a nice way to incorporate our French theme. They are designed by Sailor Paper Company and I think they are beautiful! A set of six comes in this nice satin bag, but it looks like one extra found its way into my bag and I ended up with seven. These are so fun and I think six is the perfect number for hosting a girl’s night, which I might have to do just so I can use these.

Bellapierre Precious Diamonds Hydra-Surge Rich Body Butter,8.82 oz – Retail Value $52.37 (45 euros)

This is a large tub of body butter at 8.82 oz and it is from the same brand as the mascara, Bellapierre. It is thick and luxurious with a very light scent that I would describe as floral and musky. I think that a little goes a long way with this and I felt it absorbed fairly quickly for a thick butter. It left my skin feeling soft and moisturized, plus it is made with diamond powder, which doesn’t seem to have any real use in this product, but certainly does make it feel a bit more luxurious and indulgent! I still think there may be a bit of inflation in that price though.

From Bellapierre:

“This creamy body butter contains ultra-fine diamond powder and all natural botanical oils and vitamins that melt into the skin and lock in nourishment for all-day softness.”

Good to know for swaps: this does have an inner seal.

Le Bon Garcon Sea Salt Caramels, 2 oz bag – Retail Value $5.00

These were a yummy treat for this month and really have me craving caramel apples! The caramel was chewy with a nice crisp sugar coating on the outside and just a hint of salt in the flavor. I just wish there were more of these, but that’s just my sweet tooth talking.

The back of the bag describes how the Chef was inspired to create these caramels after visiting Paris making these the perfect treat for our theme.

From their site:

“Chef Chao uses his French culinary expertise to create a confectionery experience that will make you feel like you have been transported to Paris.”

Verdict: Yes, Mommy Mailbox!! This was a great box with a lot of items I was happy to receive. I really loved how they actually stuck to the Le Francais theme and incorporated it into the items this month! The mascara was nice, the scarf is a beautiful color, the coasters are great, the body butter definitely feels pampering and luxurious, and those caramels were the perfect sweet treat heading into the fall. I know that I haven’t been as thrilled with the past few boxes, but this box really turned it around for me. I hope that the following boxes are consistent with this one! I loved the curation and that the mix of items were all actually useful to me. The total value came to $121.32, which is fantastic for a $33.95 box, even if I do suspect a bit of inflation in some values. Overall, I’m happy!

  1. This box was much better than the last couple. The same coasters are offered in Option 2 of the overstock box that they posted yesterday. I’m not really sure if the “Featured Blogger” is also responsible for the curation?

    • Thanks for reading, Nancy! The featured blogger is French, so she definitely seems to have influenced the theme, but i’ll see if I can get some clarification as to her actual involvement in the curation! 🙂
