Brown Sugar September 2018 “The Africa Edition Review

This month’s booklet is the “The Africa Edition.”

Izzy & Liv® “She is Africa” T-Shirt– Listed Value $28.00

Izzy & Liv t-shirts are a staple in their boxes, and their tees always reflect their theme. This month’s tee is gold, 100% ringspun cotton with the shape of Africa printed on the front with the word Africa on top and a woman’s face below it. I always look forward to their tees and wear them often. Their tees from previous boxes can be found here for purchase.

Printed Headwrap – Listed Value $27.00

I received a printed headwrap in teal; subscribers will receive this pattern or three other patterns. The headwrap is large enough to style a variety of ways. I am the worst when it comes to headwraps. My attempt to style the headwrap, pictured at the end of the review.

A Bold Motherland Magnet

A Bold Motherland Magnet -Listed Value $5.00

This magnet with a motherland print and striking African colors will add boldness to my magnetic collection on my refrigerator.

Printed Pouch – Listed Value $22.00

This small pouch with a strap handle has an Ankara print, and the bottom is leather as indicated in the info booklet. The pouch can fit my iPhone, change purse, a few makeup essentials, a small notepad, and a pen. Subscribers will receive one of the four designs.

“Africa” Earrings – Listed Value $11.00

Continuing with the theme, I received a pair of Africa shaped earrings in gold and black. When I first saw the earings, they appeared to be cheap looking, but once on, they looked better. I’m wearing the earrings below.

“Black Girl Magic” Cuff

“Black Girl Magic” Cuff – Listed Value $18.00

This black and gold snap cuff bracelet has “BGM” on the front meaning “Black Girl Magic.” The bracelet seems a little edgy for me, and I’m not into cuff bracelets, I may pass on to my niece. Subscribers will receive one of six colors.

Here I am wearing the headwrap and the earrings.

Verdict: This month’s box has a listed value of $111.00 – an incredible deal for $39.95 a month plus shipping. This month’s Brown Sugar Box was Africa inspired and while not my favorite box, I did enjoy this month’s info booklet with engaging articles about Africa. This month’s products are exclusive to Izzy & Liv, and most of the products are from China. I appreciate a subscription box that puts thought into their box curation and to have a theme with products that match it. The subscription price is on par with other lifestyle boxes, and you receive at least 6-7 items monthly.

  4. Not my fav box either.

  5. Great box, lovely photo of you in the headwrap and earrings!

  6. Nice box! Love the earrings.

  7. Great review, You styled the head wrap beautifully. I love the t-shirt!

  8. This might be the first I&L box that really 100% appealed to me. Well done!

  9. I just wish they sold the tee -it is gorgeous!- and the booklet separately. As someone from the Canary Islands -European region but really close to Africa- I am totally fascinated by that continent and I am always seeing products in this subscription box that I like.

    • The t-shirts will probably be available for purchase next month. I would email them and request the booklet.
